The SpaceThe house is an architectural pride of its owners: The architect Geirhardur Thorsteinsson and his wife Gudny Helgadottir actress; both are big art lovers. The house itself is a piece of art, in this majestic location.
This is a two floor house with four bedrooms and the most magnificent view over the river of Tungufljot. The bedroom and livingroom windows make a perfect frame around the majestic mount Hekla on the other side of the river, one of the most known and active volcano in Iceland.
The lodge, Fljótshamrar (River Rocks), is a stylish and modern, yet warm and embracing house. Exclusive and very private and pieceful, yet only 10 minutes walk from the village, swimming pool, the grocery store, coffee house, restaurant and other services in the small village of Brautarholt. A short drive to Geysir and Gullfoss (approximately 20-30 minutes), Laugarvatn and Thingvellir are only 30-40 min drive away. The location is very central for all the most important sights in the south of Iceland. One can do a day trip to the highlands of Landamannalaugar (when the road condition allow!), the Westman Islands and Thorsmork (summer), Skogar and Eyjafjallajokull, and always return to the warm embracing house on the hill.
On the first floor there is one bedroom with one single bed and a work desk. The well equipped kitchen is in the open space on the first floor along with dining table for ten to twelve people. Two steps down to a spacious open living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as in the dining area. On this floor there is a bathroom with a shower. Two terraces with outdoor furniture.
The master bedroom above the living room sleeps two in a king sized bed. Two smaller but spacious bedrooms are on the second floor, both with double beds (one of them is 140x200, the other 160x200) There is a bathroom on the second floor. Rather steep stairs lead to the second floor.
There is a central heating system in the house which makes it a great place to stay all year around. In the winter one enjoys the magestic scenery in the warm cozy house.
The sunrise is breathtaking, as well as the sunset over the highlands and glaciers seen from the house. A perfect place to experience and enjoy the nature of Iceland in this cosy warm family house.
