The Space'El Lentiscar' is a handsome two-towered villa built in 2007, nestled on a hillside, in a 5,000m² landscaped plot, with olive trees, 500m² of marble flagstones, a 4 x 10m private pool, outdoor kitchen/barbecue/shower room/spare room, and spectacular views across the valley of the Quipar and Argos rivers to the floodlit town of Cehegín (pop. 15,000) and the imposing 5,000m peaks above Caravaca de la Cruz. Guest AccessThe property is wonderfully secluded, set a short way (400m) along a rutted road, with neighbouring plots, almost invisible, occupied by quiet and courteous local families. The main house is laid out on a spacious open plan, with a kitchen area, dining area, and living area with broad open fire, sofas and flatscreen TV/DVD player. There is a large family bathroom, with shower/bath, vertical radiator, and a modernist ensuite to the master bedroom, which has French windows to the main patio/garden area (ideal for a midnight swim!). Up a winding staircase in the tower is a huge 8m x 8m suntrap terrace, sheltered on all four sides, with wooden loungers for sunsoaking. The pool is less than 5 years old, and has a large paved area with teak sun loungers on one side. It is not fenced. The garden has young apricot, peach, plum, cherry and almond trees, maturing pines, cypresses and olive trees, set in gravelled pathways around the main paved terracing. The extremities of the plot merge into the natural earth and grasses of the hillside, which is known as 'La Muela.'
All of this is exclusively for the use of you and your family: there are no shared amenities. Interaction with GuestsOur local agent is Cristi, a friendly Spanish-speaking woman in her 20s, whom we've worked with for over 3 years. She meets guests at an easy-to-identify landmark, drives them up to the house, hands over the keys, and gives a brief tour of the house and facilities. She's a great port of call if there are any difficulties, but we're on hand via mobile, e-mail or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) to sort things out (we live and work in the UK). We hope, however, not to be needed, and to leave you in peace during your stay. The NeighborhoodEl Lentiscar is approximately a mile away from the charming medieval hilltop town of Cehegín, perhaps the most picturesque in all Murcia, which offers the full range of amenities--including excellent restaurants and retailers--in an unobstrusive way. Within 600m is the celebrated 'Via Verde ('The Green Way'), a haven for cyclists, walkers, joggers and strollers, which crosses the River Quipar on a spectacular viaduct, nestled under the equally famous ruins of the walled Romano-Visigoth city of Begastri.
Cehegín itself is 65km distant frm Murcia city, along a splendid little-used autovia (motorway/dual carriageway). Murica is capital of the region (population 450,000), which is well served by San Javier and Alicante airports. A range of Costa Calida beaches are within easy striking distance (1½ hours uncluttered drive) but a holiday at 'El Lentiscar' is for country lovers with modern tastes, not for beach-seekers. You'll probably need to speak a bit of Spanish, be confident with map-reading, and handling a left-hand drive hire car, to get here. When you do, we think you'll think it was worth it! Getting AroundNo, though the 'via verde' (literally, the green road--the old path of a railway line turned into a country path for cyclists, joggers and walkers) is a quick way to get into town: about 15 mins. stroll. Other Things to NoteWe've landscaped the garden ourselves over the last 5 years: a labour of love! Theplot is large, and there are a few areas round the perimeter that we haven't yet had time to tame. So, expect half garden/half countryside rather than a manicured garden all over!
