The SpaceMy place is comfortable, casual, eclectic and welcoming. If posh is your preference please try a local hotel such as The Indigo - it's cool!! I am always refining and adding things for the comfort of my guests, such as a sound machine and new blinds for the bedroom, and a mechanical keyless lock for the front door. Access the Vasa trail from the backyard. We will be skiing and snow shoeing before you know it! Many options for road biking routes, kayaking on Grand Traverse Bay or area streams and inland lakes. Multiple locations to get on the North Country Trail in 20 minutes or less. If you want to earn your cumulative 100 mile badge this year, I am happy to transport you for backpacking. My place is so close to Traverse City - 10 minute drive - and all the things that make it on top ten lists: Old Mission and Leelanau Peninsula wineries, microbreweries, restaurants featuring local food, music venues and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Yet serenity of nature surrounds my place. Access 50 km of trails on the Vasa Pathways. Bike, hike, secluded beaches all near by, and enjoy Traverse City goings on - music, fun, micro breweries. Deck is fabulous for morning coffee, bird watching and moon rise. Please be mindful when you consider booking with me: I use environmentally friendly cleaning products, my outdoor space is a reflection of my natural surroundings. I protect our precious natural resources - fresh water especially - by refraining from using fertilizers, herbicides or irrigation. Since I heat with wood, the occasional bug surfaces, I have made peace with them as there is no harm to us humans. I do not provide bottled water as I do not believe in commodifying a basic human need - my well water from the tap is good! All bedding/towels are washed and line dried, so yes, occasionally a bug comes in with the laundry. I love to discuss sustainability with my guests - most enjoy learning about my recycling/composting/ footprint reducing lifestyle. I take my responsibility for environmental protection seriously, which is why I enjoy sharing my home and making less of a contribution to unnecessary consumption of our resources. Queen sized bed and firm mattress, bedroom is directly across hall from bath. Currently I am dedicating one bedroom to guests. If you have two couples in your group and are comfortable sharing a bathroom, I can accommodate you with special arrangements. Please note I do have a fearless feline Frodo. Guest AccessGuests have access to common space and all outdoor areas. Use of kitchen upon special request. Interaction with GuestsI am available to share info on my favorite spots and help you connect with whatever you may wish to do to enjoy your time here. I may be gardening or working on projects, or taking in great outdoors and local goings on. If I am working during the morning you will have breakfast prepared and waiting in the oven! English as Second/Foreign Language ESL/EFL lessons offered by veteran teacher. The NeighborhoodThe Vasa trail is a premier area for cross country skiing, snow shoeing, mountain biking and hiking. You have direct access from the back yard! I love how close I am to allow engaging in the community while still having my quiet space. Hardware, grocery and convenience stores minutes away. Grand Traverse Resort, micro brewery, restaurants all a short drive. Getting AroundBATA has a scheduled route very close to my home. You can ride your bike and load it on the bus to get to local and regional destinations. Cherry Capital Airport is just ten minutes away. Other Things to NoteI am on a path to reduce my footprint. I like the idea of opening my home to others and reducing our impact by making the most use of existing space and resources.

The NeighborhoodWe are located directly on Bicycling Magazines best route in Michigan: the Old Mission Peninsula loop tour. Old Mission is a special place for wineries and farmers produce stands. Only 2 miles from the great Jolly Pumpkin, Boathouse, and Peninsula Grill restaurants. You can walk (albeit) a 0.8 mile long walk to Gran Travers winery and Carter Osterhouses' Bonobo winery. You may kayak and SUP directly across the street. Bring your own equipment. Neighborhood shared beech is rocky and not great for swimming but launching kayaks is easy. There are lake side chairs and an overlook deck. Power Island is one mile across the bay. Please note that very often the water is too rough for kayaking. Other Things to NoteGreat swimming beach at Old Mission with clear water and sand about 8 miles north. And of course Traverse City and GT are renowned for wineries, sand dunes, festivals, microbreweries, great road riding and mountain biking. We gladly advise on these activities. Oh....... and the restaurants, Wow. The Jolly Pumpkin and Peninsula Grill are just down the road plus the Boathouse (super expensive but wonderful food).
