We now have upgraded Wifi and local cable TV. There is a small TV in the den, with DVD/VCR players, and some movies available, so bring your favorite movies, as well as a good book if you plan to stay in and relax! . There are some board games and cards available also. We are located in quiet & rural Addison, Maine. From the front of the house and upstairs, we have a peek of a water view of the Pleasant River, which is located across the street from the house. There is a local dock 5 minutes away for launching your own kayaks etc. From the back windows, we have a tranquil forestry view extending over our back 10 acres. We are only 20 minutes to the fishing village of Jonesport and Beals Island, 30 minutes to the college town of Machias, 45 minutes to the famous Bar Harbor, 1 1/2 hours to Bangor, and Roosevelt's Summer Home on Campobello Island. There is a local dock/ town landing about 5 minutes away, where you can fish or hire a boat to take you out to catch lobster. The Old Historic Ruggles' home is 10 minutes away and available for touring (check hours). Our property sits on the front part of a wooded 10 acres, with a seasonal small creek. Two private islands for you to enjoy during your rental! Walk the rocky beaches. Hike along the trails that circumnavigate each island. Sit on the rocks and look at the ocean. Have a picnic. Sip some wine. Read. Think. Sleep. Meditate. Create. Dream. Just be. Located about an hour and half by car from the airport in Bangor, Maine, Lower Birch Island is a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Lower Birch Island(s) are located at the mouth of Pleasant Bay facing the open ocean. The 23.6 acre larger island has an 1,800 sq. ft. house with 3 bedrooms and 1 and 1/2 baths. One bedroom has a king bed, one has a queen bed, and the third has twin beds. There is a queen sleep sofa in the living rooom. The house was totally refurnished in the fall of 2013 and includes a new refrigerator and gas stove. The house is fully equpped and has a fireplace, woodstove, and a new LP gas heater, if needed. Electricity is provided by solar power, which has a backup gas generator. Water is provided by a drilled well. The smaller 4.4 acre island is accessible by a land bridge that appears at low tide. You can walk across the land bridge for about four hours each tide cycle, so you have plenty of time to explore the undeveloped small island and still return to the big island before the tide rolls back in. The rental includes round trip travel to the island from Milbridge, where you can leave your car. Licensed ship captain James Robertson, or one of his other captains, will take you on a scenic, 25 minute boat ride along the beautiful, rugged Maine coast. The boat ride alone is an experience not to be missed, and Captain Robertson offers other trips, at an additional charge, should you wish during your stay. Upon arrival at the island, Captain Robertson will help you get your luggage to the house, orient you to the property, and then leave you to enjoy the peace and solitude. He can also provide fresh (and I mean fresh, literally right out of the ocean) lobsters at any time throughout your stay, also at an additional charge. To my knowledge, this is the first time the islands have been available to rent. Cleaning and seven percent Maine tax are additional.

The Austin House is located in a small coastal village in a very rural area of Maine. This is a quiet place, close to many scenic areas and parks that offer places for all kinds of outdoor activities. The home was an Inn during the latter part of the 19th century owned by the local blacksmith, Moses Austin. The home was completely renovated in 2010, preserving most of the original Greek revival architecture. It is a cozy place to just sit on the front porch and watch the tide come in and out. The location is convenient for sight seeing in either direction as it is only an hour from most major attractions from Bar Harbor to Campobella Island. The property includes a vegetable and flower garden that guests are free to harvest. The home is completely equipped with everything you will need for your stay. All linens and towels are provided. The kitchen contains everything you may need for cooking. Lawn chairs are provided for sitting in the back yard, and rocking chairs for sitting on the front porch. The home is just 5 minutes from Hwy 1 - so easy access to the highway for sightseeing trips. There is a grocery store just 5 minutes away on Hwy 1 as well as a hardware store, so you can easily pick up food on the way home when you are cooking. Live lobster can be purchased directly from the wharf down in South Addison just a 15 minute drive.
