The NeighborhoodPort Melbourne is a sunny bayside suburb with gleaming modern architecture; you can find restored workers cottages and grand old pubs paying homage to the bean and barley in typical Melbourne style. Check out Beacon Cove and Station Pier as you don your designer gear and pound the palm-lined path that hugs the Port Melbourne foreshore. Deviate past architect-designed houses and the high-rise apartment blocks overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Catch your breath in Beach Street's cafes, dress up for beachfront beverages, or dip your toes in the water. Plant yourself at 3 Station Pier or Waterfront and people-watch as the Spirit of Tasmania ferry arrives, and the international cruise ships dock. Back in Bay Street step back from the beach to scout quality coffees at Balderdash and My Sister Says and find best French provisions at Noisette. Shop up a storm at Bay Street's swanky boutiques and absorb a spot of culture at MARS Gallery. 1 Station Pier. Melbourne's premier sea passenger terminal is the port of call for the stately Spirit of Tasmania and where visiting cruise and navy ships drop anchor. 2 W.F.E. Liardet monument, foreshore. Next time you're enjoying a beverage while watching the ships roll in, send a little nod of appreciation Wilbraham Liardet's way. Liardet had a vision for Port Melbourne in 1939 and founded the first pub, pier, and ferry service. 3 The Rose Hotel, 309 Bay Street. This Port Melbourne serves modern pub fare and also has an extensive pizza menu. 4 The London, 92 Beach Street. A great perch for a cold drink while watching the world (and ships) go by. Flying trapeze for beginners, anyone? 6 The Pier, 1 Bay Street. This sleek and fancy hotel with enviable views is the namesake of Port's first pub. 7 Eurodore, 271 Bay Street. In a successful marriage of deli meets dining, the food store stocks delish home-made jams, cheeses and other picnic essentials. Alternatively, dine in for a delectable taste-plate of antipasto from the deli next door. 8 Mars Gallery, 418 Bay Street. This contemporary gallery within a former dairy uses the vast open space to show wonderful (and sometimes wacky) works and installations from Australian and international artists. 9 Dalmatino, 280 Bay Street. Wednesday nights are a winner with a three-course set menu of standout traditional Croatian dishes and live music for $42. 10 Tall Ship Cafe, 197 Bay Street. The SpaceOur family home is full of character. From the moment you arrive on the street (perhaps bemused by the facade) to when you walk through the front door into the period Victorian terrace features, the house will delight you as a visitor. Lovingly tended by our family we hope you feel the vibe! There are three bedrooms upstairs and a main bathroom with separate shower, large bath and toilet. Downstairs there are three living areas and a modern kitchen, a large garden room we call the bungalow with a separate toilet, an outdoor table and seating for 10, a hammock, supersize springfree trampoline and a swing hanging from a tree. Guest AccessA table tennis table in the garage, large Springfree trampoline, a children's toy box and books, Apple TV, wireless internet, BBQ, upright piano. There is a large laundry with front loading washer and separate dryer, and beach towels in case you feel like taking a dip in the sea. There are two kids bikes and two adult bikes you are welcome to use. The area is nice and flat so is perfect for riding to the Botanical Gardens, the South Melbourne Market, St Kilda and beyond. Interaction with GuestsWe're available at any time by phone during your stay. The NeighborhoodAlbert Park is a lovely neighbourhood, with first class shopping and dining, cafes galore and lovely quiet streets to meander. The beach is two blocks from the house, lively St Kilda only a quick tram ride or 20 minute walk away and the delights of the city an easy tram ride or a 30-40 minute walk. Getting AroundClose (not too close to hear them!) to three tram routes - the 16, 1 and 96. Other Things to NoteWe have said that we charge extra for more than 5 people. What we really mean (but it doesn't give us this option to comment in our pricing) is that if we need to make up the queen bed garden room we need an extra 50$ per night. So if you are a family with 2-4 children who can all fit in the main house we don't require any extra. But if you need the extra room, we do. If the system doesn't support what you have booked we need to ask you to cover the remaining owed when you arrive. The house fits 7 people comfortably. The ideal set up would be two couples and three children. This will use all the beds we have available with the large beds occupied by two people each. An extra small mattress could fit in the smaller room we would just need to move around the bed and source the mattress.
