The SpaceVacation rental on the Mendocino Coast, amidst gardens, meadows & forest, 150 miles north of San Francisco. Our Quiet Meadow Cottage is located on the spectacular Mendocino Coast in a beautiful rural area just 1.5 miles from Pacific Ocean on 13 acres of gardens, meadows and redwood forests, with sheep and llamas next door on our quiet, dead-end, paved road. We are 5 miles from the fishing village of Albion, 12 miles from historically preserved coastal village of Mendocino (an art, wine and food lover's paradise) and 20 to 30 miles from Fort Bragg’s harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, the historic Skunk Train, two virgin redwood preserves, and many Anderson Valley wineries. Our guest cottage is clean, cozy and quiet with a queen bedroom, tub & shower bathroom, small kitchen, sunny deck, and a comfy, sun-filled living room (with 2 additional day-beds). No other houses are in sight (besides the owners' next door), deer and wild turkeys frequent the meadow in front, nearby are extensive flower and organic vegetable gardens, and at night what you usually hear most is the distant ocean surf. Costs: During the off-season (Jan-March) it's $115 a night. You get a 15% discount for week-long stays and 33% off for a month. During the high-season, April-Dec, it's $150 a night. There is a 2-night minimum, and a one-time $50 cleaning fee and no other fees. (The county bed tax is already included in the list price.) To keep the cottage fresh for all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted. More photos can be sent to you upon request, and several photos of the property, garden and Mendocino Coast area can be viewed at the owners' home-exchange website, available at Quiet Meadow Cottage, spelled as one word, followed by a period and com. Note that we have video and DVD players and a TV set for movies, but we do not get TV reception or cable. Cell phone reception works for some carriers and not for others. There is a phone in the cottage in case you want to give it to family or friends, and which you may use freely for local calls. The internet is accessible thru a high-speed Internet connection. The cold Pacific Ocean 1.5 miles away keeps our summer daytime temp below 80 degrees-- 60 degrees during foggy days-- and nights can go as low as 45 in summer and 30 in winter. Bring layers. The cottage is heated centrally by a Monitor propane heater whose thermostat you can adjust to your desired temperature. And we do provide all bedding, towels, bathrobes, hair-dryer, iron and ironing board, and numerous books, games, CDs and DVDs. Your deck has 2 recliners and a BBQ, and you're also welcome to use our 2 bikes and canoe. The check-in time is 3pm, and check-out is noon. We do not provide breakfasts or meals. The kitchen includes a propane stovetop, mini-fridge, sink, microwave and toaster ovens, stick blender, toaster, coffee makers and a tea kettle, plus sugar, salt & pepper, and usually some teas and spices. However, you need to bring your own coffee, cream and all the food you want to eat. Many restaurants are available in the area, and Albion village has a good little grocery store and deli. Driving directions are at the bottom. We wish you an enjoyable time in the country, Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: "Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves." "We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks." "This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property." "You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift." "Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges." "This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely." Guest AccessYou have access to explore the owner's 13 acres of gardens, meadows and redwood-Douglas fir forests. The organic veggie garden often has produce the owners are happy to share with guests, The landscape garden has hammock and various lawn seatings for reading and relaxing amidst flowers and nature. A propane BBQ grill, canoe and bicycles are available to use for free. Guests staying a week or more may use the owners washer & dryer. Interaction with GuestsThe hosts live next door on their 13 acres and are available to answer questions and be helpful in any way while also highly respectful of guests privacy. Call hosts next door at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) or knock on their front door. The NeighborhoodOur immediate rural neighborhood is explorable via paths thru our meadows and woods and by walking on Middle Ridge Road, a little-used, dead-end road, and country lanes. The village of Albion is 5 miles away and has an excellent little grocery, wine selection & deli plus post office, hardware store, ocean harbor, beach, boat rental and 3 restaurants. Seven miles up the coast from Albion is Mendocino-- a historically preserved coastal village and an art, wine and food lover's paradise. Seven miles further north is the larger town of Fort Bragg, with a large harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, 20 restaurants, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, and the historic Skunk Train. Fifty miles inland from Albion are two virgin redwood preserves and 20 Anderson Valley wineries. Albion is great base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the beautiful North Coast. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation available so a car is needed to get to the cottage. There is plenty of parking right next to the cottage. Other Things to NoteGuests have written of the hosts, "Tom and Sharon's Quiet Meadow Cottage is a total oasis. They've created this incredible, comforting nook in the world that weary travelers are welcomed to and given a chance to truly rest. It's like going home. Just read a few pages in their guest book and you'll know immediately that there is something really special about them and this place. We were looking for a place that we could rest and recharge and this was it to a T. When we arrived there was a family of deer in the meadow there to greet us. There is a really great movie collection and a super interesting range of books and CDs. The kitchen has everything you need and the Albion Grocery & Deli has the basics, including organic produce and local wines. The cottage was super clean and had everything else you could possibly need. If you're up to exploring this coastal area during the day, there are plenty of options ranging from incredible ocean bluffs and beach bumming to virgin redwood forest hikes. The cottage comes complete with maps, local guides and informational pamphlets from all over the area. We're grateful for the time we spent at the Cottage and are tremendously thankful to Sharon & Tom for welcoming us. We hope to go back soon!"

Outside you will discover that Mendocino County is one of the planet's most pristine, protected and therefore, stunning spots. Interaction with GuestsWe live in San Francisco so it's most probably that we won't have the pleasure of making your acquaintance personally, however one never knows! A little about us: Rabbi Sydney Mintz is a Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco. In 1989 she moved to the Bay Area from Chicago and soon became enamored with Mendocino County. Justine and Sydney fell in love 4 years ago and they live together in San Francisco with their sons. Justine grew up in Berkeley California and for 10 years traveled the world as the host of the TV travel show GlobeTrekker. Though she was born in one of the most beautiful places on the planet (South Africa) and has traveled through over 40 countries, Mendocino county is one of the most stunning spots she has ever set foot upon, for both the land and its people are radiant, and grounded, creative and kind. Justine produces and directs documentary films. Justine was nominated for an Academy Award for PROMISES, a documentary about Palestinian and Israeli children. The NeighborhoodYou are far enough away from the Bay Area that you will notice that the air is fresh, your rhythms align to a pace in tune with nature, and within in a short time you'll find your mind shifting into a familiar but long forgotten gear. You'll marvel at simple wonders: clouds, sparkles on the sea, grasses that shimmer in wind and sunlight. From The Historic Albion Schoolhouse you are minutes from stunning coastal hikes, pristine beaches, world class restaurants and the best that cafes anywhere have to offer by way of coffee and baked goods. The town of Mendocino feels far more like a victorian sea side village but with all the amenities one desires: unique shops, art galleries and excellent restaurants and grocery stores. Don't miss the breath-taking hikes along the Mendocino's headlands, the trail heads are right there in town. Mendocino offers other outdoor adventures: canoeing, fishing, kayaking, mountain biking. The SpaceHistoric Albion Cottage is located in the tiny north coast village of Albion, CA (8 miles south of Mendocino proper), a perfect romantic getaway (or writer's retreat) for 2 adults awaits you in the most beautiful and gorgeous part of this serene and rugged part of the world. As we are avid hikers, when you book the cottage we'll provide you with great local hiking trail information! Although our cottage has 2 guest bedrooms, we feel that in order for you to properly experience all that California's majestic & serene north coast of Mendocino has to offer, we limit the guest house to that of 2 occupants, but we will consider 1 to 2 additional adults under special circumstances. For the 2 guests that want separate quarters, both double bed guest rooms are avail to you. We have found that limiting the number of guests (especially with only one bathroom) that you'll appreciate this intimate experience more because of this, as we always have ourselves. We take great pride in keeping the cottage original, if you are not into art and antiques, original characteristics with a worn patina, and an authentic "old world" experience, please do not book this house. This very special beloved family property is 3 minutes from the Pacific Ocean, 30 minutes from Booneville and the many wineries of the cutting-edge Anderson Valley, and 10 minutes from the famed village of Mendocino (trivia: the exterior shots for the TV series "Murder she Wrote" were filmed here). Although only 2.5 hours from SF, the cottage offers a soothing respite amid the vastness of nature. As we are a new listing on airbnb, we are continually striving to improve the house (new paint and windows as of Sept/Oct 2016), making sure that we fulfill guest expectations for their stay at Albion Cottage. It's so wonderful to have guests that see through its quirks and "rustic aroma", and are able to appreciate our treasured 110 year old family home for what it is -- an unpolished jewel. What we provide: Clean sheets, bath towels, paper goods, Melita coffee maker with enough local organic coffee to last your visit, lighter stick for stove, a myriad of antique dishes & silverware, antique 1920 Wedgewood stove (there's no pilot light, please be familiar on how to use gas from the past: see below for details) , 1930's original fridge, a super-sized claw-foot tub for two (with hand-held shower head), microwave, antique dish ware, cutlery, and other kitchen utensils/cookware/cutting board, etc. Further, there's high-speed (150MB/sec) WI-FI included in the price, but hopefully you won't need such modern connectivity too much during your restful and unplugged visit to the serene north coast. FYI: The Albion Village store has a myriad of fine wines, organic vegetables, dairy, and fresh deli everything, you practically don't need to leave the village if you desire to stay put and simply relax. Lastly, whether you decide to stay at our retreat or elsewhere, I'm happy to give recommendations, and I hope you have a great time visiting this most beautiful area of California. Cheers (and enjoy your stay). Kevin, David, and Rosie too! As we are lovers of all animals, we will consider your pet if they are good-natured (when accepted, there is a nominal pet fee of $10/night additional charge). Cheers. Disclaimer: Our historic cottage is enjoyed by nature lovers from around the world; and we offer an authentic experience of a rural remote "turn of the century" fisherman's village. With that said, we cannot control the inevitable sighting of a spider, etc, in or around the property (lions, tigers, and bears, oh my!!) If you're typically a hotel person that requires OCD details and order, our pastoral setting might not be the right choice for your coastal stay. Further, Our ancient home is time worn and very rustic, the cottage creaks with the coastal winds, and the cottage has a distinctive scent of old redwood and fog. For your comfort and warmth, the cottage has a central propane heater, a large portable electric heater, warming blankets, and has space heaters in each room for your consistent coziness. Our professional maid service cleans dutifully for approx. 4 hours prior to every visit as to prepare the cottage for guests, so rest assured that the space is very clean for your stay at Albion Cottage. Cheers. Guest AccessThe house key is located on property. Wireless internet (no password required), internet land-line telephone. Interaction with GuestsWe live in Sacramento (but are constantly up in Albion to make improvements to the property), so guest interaction is primarily through the Airbnb website. We are all about open communication though, please feel free to contact us (via house phone, email, or iMessage) 24/7 regarding any house/rental matters. The NeighborhoodThe serenity of Albion village (and the wonderfully stocked organic grocery store & deli just 30 seconds walk), the wonderful proximity to nature trails, beaches, and Mendocino sights, etc...AND, the best for last: Queenie's Roadhouse Cafe in Elk (a must visit eatery for foodies). We also have some of the best tasting and pure drinking water in Albion, it's been considered for bottling due its purity and quality. Getting AroundHike, bike, drive, or thumb it! ;) Other Things to NoteThe Antique 95 year-old Wedgewood stove requires some knowledge of proper use and lighting...there's no pilot light for the burners or the oven (which needs visual gauging as it's temperature control), and if guests are not careful to turn off knobs properly, the gas can permeate the house and be an issue. Also, we really discourage guests to arrive after dark, because there is very little light on the winding and rural country roads. And unless the moon is full, finding our cottage for some guests has been daunting. Please bring a bright flashlight, too. On the flip-side though, the Milky Way is a magnificent sight from our deck at night. A note on our rates: we are a registered business, and Mendocino County charges a bed tax (aka transient occupancy tax) of 11%. The county taxes and the cleaning fee are reflected in our prices. Also, we have a two night minimum for bookings. Specific directions to our cottage will be contained within your itinerary once you've reserved the cottage. Thank you.

Albion Store is a short drive away, where you can buy groceries as you need them. We live next door, but our house is not visible from the cabin. We will be available to help you if you need anything, and will help you find your way around the neighborhood or to other close-by towns, and we'll leave directions for a few local places to get you started with your exploration of our wonderful area. If you love the tea, or if you are interested in buying a knit and felted hat, email me, and I will show you what I have, as I am an avid knitter, and have an extensive tea company. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. The neighbors are generally quiet, with an occasional child's voice or dog barking. We have one neighbor who whistles as he works outside, but you may never hear him. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation, but the roads seldom have much traffic, and driving is straight-forward and easy. It takes awhile to drive here from any airport, but once you get here, you will never want to leave! Other Things to NoteYou will walk through an English Garden as you walk up to the house, that blooms most of the year. Since Juliette loved gardening, it's always changing, but retains the feeling of timelessness. Don't worry if the weather is bad, we will have jigsaw puzzles, board games, and books to read by the wood stove. It's very cozy at Juliette's Place when it rains. The house has a bedroom with a queen bed, and also has a loft with a queen bed. There is a futon couch in the main room.

The SpaceRiventides sits atop peaceful Navarro Ridge overlooking the mouth of the Navarro River where it flows into the Pacific. The house has extended river and ocean views as well as a panoramic view of the forested ridges on both sides of the Navarro. We recently bought this dramatic yet serene dwelling with its two acres of land. We were enchanted by its views and its unusual combination of classical, creative, and rustic features. They all come together in what one friend characterized as “a rustic palace.” The house is set back from the road by a long driveway with an adjacent grassy meadow. At the end of the drive, open a small gate and step into a delightful park-like courtyard reminiscent of those found in European country houses, complete with fountain. Enter the long foyer of the house and walk back to the living room, with its soaring cathedral ceiling, stone fireplace, and vaulted windows that beautifully showcase the ridge on the far side of the river. A balcony overlooks the living room from the second floor. To the right is the extended kitchen-dining area with river and ocean views, a high slanted roof, and a row of doors that open to the long covered back porch and generous backyard. A number of vintage treasures have been incorporated into the house. The broad-board pine floors in the living and dining room hail from an old Singer sewing machine factory, the marble island counter top in the kitchen from the Berkeley Public Library, and the double doors at the front entrance are from a former Fort Bragg mercantile store. These harmonize well with the more contemporary elements, such as the industrial-style metal kitchen countertops and the stainless appliances. The first floor has a large master bedroom suite with a huge spa/tub, enclosed tile shower, and an adjacent outdoor hot tub. There is also an ample guest room with attached bath. The second floor bedroom can sleep up to four with its bunk bed (lower double/upper single) and additional single bed. The second floor bathroom has an unusual tub/shower that is likely to delight. Situated in Albion, Riventides is near many fine restaurants and only 8 miles from the town of Mendocino and its shops. Because it is very close to the junction of CA Route 128 and CA Highway 1, it also provides a wonderful base for experiencing the riveting beauty and other attractions all up and down the North Coast. We named the property “Riventides,” inspired by Tolkien’s “Rivendell,” a place of beauty, comfort and rejuvenation for Hobbits and Elves. We hope that with its open views of river, sea, ridges, and sky, its comfort, and its peaceful yet energizing ambiance, Riventides will serve a similar purpose for our guests! We are lucky to have a very helpful when needed but otherwise completely unintruisve caretaker for the property, who lives in an apartment over the detached garage. Rate include the 11% Mendocino County tax Pets $100

Albion Cottage is located in the tiny north coast village of Albion, CA (8 miles south of Mendocino proper), a romantic getaway (or writer's retreat) for 2 awaits you in the most beautiful and gorgeous part of this serene and rugged part of the world. Although our cottage has 2 bedrooms, we feel that in order to properly experience all that California's majestic & serene north coast of Mendocino has to offer, we limit the guest house to that of 2 occupants (for guests that want separate quarters, both double bed guest rooms are avail to you). You'll appreciate your experience more because of this, as we always have ourselves. On a further note, our bedroom is the one with 2 twin beds (yes, just like Ricky & Lucy), and we prefer that guests not sleep in that room, but TV watching in there is ok. This very special family property is 10 minutes north of Elk and the Pacific Ocean, 30 minutes from Boonville and the many wineries of the cutting-edge Anderson Valley, and 10 minutes from the famed village of Mendocino (trivia: the exterior shots for the TV series "Murder she Wrote" were filmed here). Although only 2.5 hours from SF, the cottage offers a soothing respite amid the vastness of nature. As we are a new listing on airbnb, we are continually striving to improve the house, making sure that we fulfill guest expectations for their stay at Albion Cottage. It's so wonderful to have guests that see through its quirks and are able to appreciate our treasured 107 year old family home for what it is -- an unpolished jewel. High-speed WI-FI & full service DirecTV are included in the price, but hopefully you won't need those modern conveniences too much. What we provide: Clean sheets, bath towels, paper goods, Melita coffee maker, lighter stick for stove, a myriad of antique dishes & silverware, antique 1920 Wedgewood stove, microwave, antique dishware, cutlery, and other kitchen utensils/cookware/cutting board, etc. FYI: The Albion Village store has a myriad of fine wines, organic vegetables, dairy, and fresh deli everything, you practically don't need to leave the village if you desire to stay put and simply relax. Lastly, whether you decide to stay at our retreat or elsewhere, I'm happy to give recommendations, and I hope you have a great time visiting this most beautiful area. Cheers (and enjoy your stay). Kevin, David, and Rosie too! As we are lovers of all animals, we will consider your pet if they are good natured.

Sea & River House perches on a cliff 150 feet above the ocean, 10 miles south of the historic village of Mendocino, 1 mile from the Navarro River ocean inlet, and easy driving distance to the many wineries of Anderson Valley. It is about 130 miles north of San Francisco. Where the Navarro River meets the sea, a mile north, there is a wide river beach to explore or throw a frisbee or build a driftwood fort. Several swimming "holes" (a favorite of our kids) can be found up river after a short walk through the majestic redwood forest. There is also ocean or river kayaking and steel head fishing on the river in season.. The house is truly unique in having ocean views to the south, west and north which can be enjoyed from almost every room in the house as well as from the expansive decks on each level. With 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms, Sea & River House easily accommodates up to eight people. The decks in combination with a game room and living room afford flexible space where families or friends can gather together or spread out for quiet time. Old growth redwood panels the entire upper story. The dining room and living room are open to the ocean and the kitchen door has a large window to the river side sea. The dining table seats 6-8 and is a great spot to play board games The living room has two comfortable couches centered around a wood burning fireplace for stormy winter days and a ceiling fame to cool off on warm summer days. The house also has a forced air heating system. The living room is a favorite spot to stretch out and read or drag out the ottoman for your computer. There is a small but mighty sound system. Wifi is provided for a small charge. Please no downloading movies though. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooks. The SpaceThis attractive house has stunning ocean views in three directions, one north to the inlet of the Navarro River, and to the east are the coastal mountains. It is an easy coastal drive to charming historic Mendocino Village and in another direction to Navarro Redwood State Park and beyond to the many wineries of Anderson ValIey. Try some Pinot Noir at one of the daily wine tasting events. Stop along Hwy. 128 to hike in the majestic redwood forest and find secluded warm water "swimming holes" upstream on the Navarro River. Throw a frisbee or build a driftwood fort at the Navarro River Beach one mile north. The house comfortably accommodates friend and family groups as well as couples. With a living room, game room and decks on two levels there is space for folks to gather together or spread out to read and just stare at the ocean. Two comfortable couches centered around a wood burning fireplace make the living room a favorite spot to stretch out and read around a good fire at night. A ceiling fan cools the area at the end of hot days. There is a small but mighty sound system and some music we like. Bring your own CDs too. The dining room table is a great place to play card or board games. The master bedrooms and game room have cable TV. Books and movie DVDs are stocked. The kitchen is well equipped for cooks - starting with a gas stove, many pots and pans, drip and french press coffee pots, Crate and Barrel melamine dishes, cookbooks, and stainless steel wine cups. Cook fresh caught crab (in season) or salmon from Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg. Use our cooking herbs from the plants out front. Sip your coffee or wine at the full table on the upper deck or bistro table on the lower deck. Outdoor tables are stored in winter due to storms. The game room has a convertible foosball table and electronic dart game as well as wall mounted TV. Outside the game room on the lower deck is a chiminea (where you can roast marshmallows) or the hot tub for a good soak. There are 4 bedrooms. Queen and full sized beds are finished with foam or featherbed toppers and then with quality quilts. The master bedroom on the lower level boasts a canopy bed. Vintage plein aire oil seascapes hang on the walls, and sliding glass doors take you to the deck. In the lower level bathroom is a coffee maker. Brew your own pot and sip coffee on the lower deck in the morning. The upper master bedroom includes a lovely art nouveau lamp and ceiling fan. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house (with the exception of a storage room) and front and back yards. The road side yard has a picnic table while the ocean side front yard includes an herb garden that rings an expanse of colorful ice plant. A bench can be found on the western most promontory. Interaction with GuestsWe are not on site but are available by phone or email. The NeighborhoodNavarro Bluff has other homes though most are set back on their lots, so the location feels secluded but not remote. There is a pricey grocery (with deli), and hardware store combined with post office in nearby Albion, a five minute drive. Mendocino is about a 20 minute drive and has a larger grocery store and Fort Bragg has a major Safeway store. The entire Village of Mendocino is a historic district. The village has many restaurants, old hotels, galleries and shops. A basket in the house is filled with brochures detailing activities in the area which include: sea kayaking, guided hikes in state parks, descriptions of the many state parks along the coast, horseback riding, logging train ride out of Fort Bragg, deep sea fishing expeditions out of Noyo Harbor, wineries, music and art festivals in Mendocino and other coast communities. Getting AroundCars are needed to get from the house to most places.
