The Space3 Story raised Cabin in the woods with Lofted Bedroom on second floor and cot on 3rd floor. Kitchen island and dining table on first floor with soaring windows facing Northwest. The cabin is secluded and surrounded by trees, with a little frog pond in front. Provides privacy, while still just 7 miles from the nearest 24 hr drugstore and grocery stores and coffeeshops.
This is my getaway cabin and art studio, just one hour north of New Orleans, near Abita Springs and Covington, LA.
1 1/2 bath
Bedroom has Queen Keetsa Eco Bed (amazingly comfortable and firm), with high-quality sheets and down comforter with linen duvet. 3rd floor has a small camping style cot with Anthropologie Bedding. There is a balcony on the third floor which provides a nice view of the woods (but currently has a beehive so I'm sorry but is out of order). There is also a deck by the front door with a small table and two chairs. This is a nice place for morning coffee with the birds and gentle sun rising from behind the house.
I provide clean towels and sheets and professional cleaning between guests.
Next to the house is a patio with a fire pit and picnic table. You will see a cottage also, which is a storage shed and not part of the rental.
In season, there is a great number of fireflies in the woods surrounding the patio. When the moon is full, it illuminates the whole area. You can expect to see a sky full of stars on a clear night.
This house is perfect for anyone traveling to Covington, Abita or Mandeville, looking for secluded and extremely charming and unique accommodations. It provides peace and quiet, perfect for any writer or overworked professional. My hope is that the house will play host to the great writers, artists, photographers, musicians, philosophers, architects, theorists, poets, actors and entrepreneurs of our time.
Just a few miles from the Abita Brew Pub and Brewery, the Tammany Trace, Abita Mystery House and downtown old Covington. Short drive to John Besh's 5-star "La Provence" restaurant in Lacombe.
House is set back off the highway. Easy parking under the house or in the gravel driveway.
Heat/Air Conditioning (window units)
Chemex Coffee Brewer
Full size Fridge/Freezer
While this house provides all the comforts of modern living with the novelty of a treehouse, it does not have an oven or dishwasher. No bathtub (shower only), and the bedroom loft and 3rd floor are accessed by spiral staircase. The 3rd floor has an opening to view down to 1st floor and access the pulley system, but this opening may require caution with children accessing the 3rd floor. While you can expect peace and privacy, it is not entirely quiet because you can hear the occasional truck traveling down the highway. (I just point this out in case you are looking for something more rural)
While it is magical and comfortable, it is still a cabin in the woods. It's drafty, and the temperature can be difficult to regulate (it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter) and there are the occasional bugs, lizards, etc that make their way inside. If you are renting this house, I trust that you are comfortable with a somewhat rustic woods experience. Once you step out the door, it's the forest, so you cannot leave food unattended outside or the raccoons or other animals will get into it. And when walking through the woods, you should be responsible for your own safety against snakes or any other potential danger found in the great outdoors. :)
Cabin has a tin roof which is wonderful during a thunderstorm.
Water is provided by well on the property, accessing the Abita Springs Aquifer. It is clear, clean and delicious. There is a hot water heater so you can expect to take hot showers with no problem.
I am always available in case of any problems. I know this house backwards and forwards and have fixed most things on it myself. That said, it is a work in progress and I am always improving it. I appreciate any feedback from your stay. I want my guests to be enchanted with their experience here.
Privacy is important to me and I will be extremely cautious when approving guests for stay at my Treehouse. If you are interested, please tell me something about yourself and your travel plans with your inquiry. This house is a result of the people who occupy it and together we are adding to the historical record of this time and place. It is a place of story and mystery and most of all, a complete jewel in the rough of the bottomlands of Louisiana. When approving guests, I'm looking for a cast of characters that will add something to the story. Thank you. Guest AccessGuests have access to the Treehouse and surrounding grounds including a patio with fire pit, and hammocks under the house. Interaction with GuestsI have very little to no interaction with guests. Key is provided with a lock box and tips for things to do in the area are provided in a binder in the house. I trust that you are seeking a secluded getaway when booking this space. The NeighborhoodThe northshore of Lake Pontchartrain provides much natural intrigue. My favorite nearby things to do include: swim at the beach at Fountainebleau State Park, swamp tours at Honey Island Swamp, Safari tours at the Global Wildlife Center, Antique shopping in downtown old Covington, Brewery tour and beer tasting at the Abita Brewery, wonder and intrigue at the Abita Mystery House, Tubing down the Bogue Chitto River, Concerts at the Dew Drop Jazz and Social Hall, and dining at "La Provence". Getting AroundThere is no public transportation. You will need a car to explore the northshore.
