The SpaceThis cozy cottage is at the base of beautiful Torch Lake, on the south end of the lake across the street from a public access so it is not on the lake but across the street. We require a 5 night minimum plus cleaning of $80. Our place has A/C in the summer and we include all bedding, towels etc. This is more like a rental property versus a B and B but it's a great place for anyone interested in visiting Torch Lake. During the summer months we rent 7 night rentals from Saturday to Saturday, no exceptions until later in August we will consider 5 night minimums. The cottage is across the street from the lake and we have access to a public lake access and a private shared access down the road half a mile. There is no guest interaction as we are not located on property. It's peaceful and quiet especially during the Fall and Winter. Cute town of Alden is 5 minutes away. Must have a car to get around. The SpaceBetween our cabin and the shore of Torch Lake there is an abandon railroad berm. We do not own that land, (our neighbor does), so The Bach does not have private water frontage. For swimming access, you will walk down a short hill toward the water and then 2/10 of a mile north. The beach is wide and sandy. Torch is cold and crystal clear. Our cabin is 400 sq. ft. It has only one bedroom with a queen bed. It also has a kitchen, dining area, living room and bathroom with a shower. On the road side there is an enclosed porch and on the waterside there is an outdoor deck and barbecue. Our shortest rental period is one week. Our rental week goes from Thursday to Thursday. Our renters requested not checking in/out on the weekend. They want a whole weekend on Torch. IN 2016 WE HAD A 3 MONTH RENTAL (5/15-6/15), THAT WORKED OUT VERY WELL FOR US. WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE LONGER RENTALS SO WE ARE NOW OFFERING A 25% DISCOUNT FOR A MONTH RENTAL. The Bach is just over a mile south of the Clam River. At the river there is another swimming beach, boat slips, rentals, and a hopp'n summer bar called the “Dockside”. Bikes are a good fit in our area. It is a 50 mile ride around Torch Lake. The Glacial Hills Pathway is making a name for itself in mountain biking, along with Shorts Brewery in Bellaire. Mackinaw Island is about 75 miles to the north with Charlevoix and Petoskey along the way. Traverse City is the closest bigger city at about 35 miles, but our little jewel of Alden is less than 3 miles. Guest AccessThe cabin is a stand alone cabin on its own lot. Interaction with GuestsOur home is 1/2 mile south of the cabin

Its location on the east side of the lake affords spectacular views of the setting sun, especially from the large open air deck which overlooks the lake, and the near-constant lull of water lapping at the shore. There is also a smaller private deck, complete with a hammock swing (one of several on the property), off the master suite. For more than 6 people (up to a total of 10), you can also rent our Guest House for an additional $100/night. (We only rent the Guest House in conjunction with the Main Cottage.) The SpaceNational Geographic magazine calls torch lake the third most beautiful lake in the world. You are staying in a cabin where countless families have enjoyed their summer vacations for decades, five and counting. These are Bellaire Log Cabins, manufactured as kits in the nearby town of Bellaire. Note the vertical construction, and that the inside which looks like cedar paneling is really the flattened side of the log. No chinking, they are joined by a spline. The "Airstream Trailer" of log homes, they are a piece of Michigan history. Guest AccessGuests have access to all the common areas of the resort. Guests are welcome to join in when there is a campfire, but they are not allowed to start a fire by condominium association rules. Most of the cottages at Cedar Shores are privately owned and not rentals, an owner must be responsible for any fires. Moorings are available on a first come, first serve, basis to use during the day, but boats may not be left out on moorings overnight. Boats are to only be tied to the dock for boarding and unboarding. Interaction with GuestsWe like to respond quickly to all questions and requests before, during, and after the guest's stay. Otherwise, we leave them alone to enjoy our little piece of paradise. The NeighborhoodThe numerous nature trails, the great shopping and eating in nearby Bellaire and Alden, the ability to be in Traverse City in 45 minutes. We now have our own winery in the area, Torch Lake Cellars, and our own Meadery, Bee Well! That's in addition to one of the greatest breweries on the planet, Short's. Yet, the greatest thing to do is watch the sunset from your new front yard.

This cute and clean '1940s' era cottage is much the way you would have found it mid-century: no TV, no phone, lots of clean air and water, nesting loons, and the good company you've traveled with. It has one bedroom with a double bed, and a curtained alcove room with a twin bed. The kitchen was updated in 2006 and the bath in 2013. New is the screened-in front porch and windows. This Thayer Lake beachfront cottage shares 150 foot of prime frontage with its sister cottage, 'Pine.' The cottage sits 400 feet back off the road. Thayer Lake is a no-wake lake perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and relaxed enjoyment of nature. There are both sunny and shady areas along the waterfront and a lakeside fire pit for making S'mores. The lake access is shallow and gradual, good for children and wading. Within one mile of the cottage are two public accesses to Torch Lake, one of Michigan's largest and certainly most beautiful sandy-bottomed lakes. Kayaks, a canoe and two rowboats with all appropriate equipment are available to the renters of the cottage.
