Large family home on an acre of beautiful gardens including half court tennis, swimming pool and resident koala. We are only 25 minutes to the city and on the doorstep of the beautiful Adelaide Hills, renowned for the annual Tour Down Under cycling challenge and arguably, the best food and wine in the state. Our family of 5 lives in a 5 bedroom house in Aldgate, with two maltese-shitzu dogs and chickens in the orchard. Our guests will have a huge bedroom, kitchenette and own bathroom (with spa) and private access with off-street car parking. Aldgate is a quiet leafy village, 2 minutes from popular Stirling with a fantastic monthly market and 7 minutes from German-styled Hahndorf. There are many beautiful country drives and walking or cycling trails through the Adelaide Hills including the Heysen Trail (hiking) and Amy Gillett bike track. Our house has a passive thermal design to maximise natural heating and cooling with many large windows looking out into the garden. We enjoy having international students stay from time to time and enjoy meeting travellers from all over the world. We would love to welcome you and provide a warm and inviting place to stay while you explore Adelaide, the Hills and surrounding areas. You are welcome to join us socially during your stay or if you prefer, can have complete privacy and come and go as you please. Other features of the Cottage include flat screen TVs, DVD players, hair dryer, board games, and books, too. Undercover guest car parking is provided, and for those who want to explore by bus - the bus stop is minutes away. The Cottage is a perfect base for exploring the Hills and Adelaide city. The world-famous McLaren Vale wine-growing area is just 30 minutes' drive away - with cellar door tastings of wines, cheeses, olives and more. McLaren Vale is close to some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia (personal favourites are Port Willunga, Moana, and Aldinga). All of this is yours to enjoy - a perfect getaway for two in one of the prettiest locations in the whole of South Australia! I look forward to meeting you and helping you settle in to the Aldgate Creek Cottage! Guest AccessPrivate undercover parking is provided for your convenience at 3 Rugby Road. Here there is also additional parking available if you are meeting friends. From the parking area it's just a short walk past the main house through the garden to the Cottage. The Cottage has its own private gardens and deck, and 2 private garden entrances take you to Aldgate Village in just seconds. There is a trampoline and swing area if you should be staying with young children. Interaction with GuestsWhen you have parked please come to the front door of the main house where your host Sarah will meet you for check-in. She will then accompany you to the Cottage (pointing our the private garden entrances that lead to Aldgate), show you the special features of the Cottage, and hand you your key. When you depart, simply leave the key in the back of the door thank you. You are welcome to contact Sarah during your stay, either by phone or text, or by coming up to the house. I look forward to welcoming you to the Cottage! The NeighborhoodAldgate is a pretty village located in the heart of the Adelaide Hills. The Aldgate Creek Cottage is surrounded by majestic trees, and the whole of Aldgate and this area of the Hills is extremely attractive. Enjoy the native and exotic trees that give this area a feel of England and Europe. Aldgate Village is a great place for dining out with cafes and restaurants - and its close to other hills villages such as Stirling and historic Hahndorf that also have a grear selection of restaurants and boutique shops. Local villages also have great weekend markets offering home made food including vegetarian and gluten-free, handcrafted items, potted plants, jewellery, collectables and more. The world-famous McLaren Vale wine growing area is 30 minutes' drive away and offers a fantastic choice of cellar door wine tastings and is also great for olive oil. McLaren Vale is on the Fleurieu Peninsula and here you will find stunning beaches - with firm white sands and clear blue waters. Why not try driving onto the beach at one of the designated beaches? There are so many gorgeous beaches to choose from. My favourites are Aldinga and Moana. Stangate House is a heritage listed building that is available for hire for weddings and celebrations. It is about 10 minutes walk away. The Cottage is often booked by newly-wed couples who have celebrated their wedding at Stangate House. The Bridgewater Mill is also a great place to have a wedding reception - and this is just 5 minutes' drive from the Cottage. Mount Lofty Summit is 15 minutes' drive -offering panoramic views over Adelaide, the hills and ocean. This is a great place to photograph the twinkling lights of Adelaide - something that can be found in only a few cities in the world. If you want to meet Australian wildlife up close, then I recommend Cleland Wildlife Park that is close to the summit at Mount Lofty. Getting AroundA bus stop is 2 minutes' walk with buses running to Adelaide, Mount Lofty, and local villages such as Hahndorf and the town of Mount Barker. From the Cottage it's a short stroll to the fine restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and village amenities. The bottle shop is over the road, next to the Aldgate Pump Hotel. The SpaceThis is a family friendly house with large country garden and deck. Please treat this home as you would your own and be respectful of the house rules. The house is not large but it is cosy and quite comfortable for 2 adults and 2 or 3 children. The children's bedroom has a single bed and trundle but if you wish to put children in the double bedroom, that's your choice. There is a small study also where you can put a cot for babies. Sorry no pets. Guest AccessThe whole house and garden is there for your enjoyment but please be mindful of the neighbours and keep noise down after 10pm. No smoking in the house and if you smoke outside please put your butts in bins provided. Although the house is family friendly and the deck is fenced off, you will need to take the usual precaution with very young children outside in the garden area and road. Interaction with GuestsI will be there when you arrive and show you around and I live about 10 minutes away and can always be contacted by phone and/or email. I can tell you about the Hills region and its wonderful attractions, but the space is all yours to enjoy - I ask that you do not ask more than 2 or 3 guests to visit at a time due to the size of the place and comfort. The NeighborhoodBridgewater is known for its beautiful autumn and spring colours, fresh air and charming walks. There are plenty of good walks you can get to from the house and a play ground for children is nearby in Oak Avenue. The local supermarket and shops are 6 minutes drive away or you can drive to the lovely village of Stirling where there are boutique shops and a shopping mall. For walks, the Heyson Trail is only minutes away by car. The tourist town of Hahndorf is only 10 minutes drive away and the Wine region of McLaren Vale is about 35 minutes away. The local Bridgewater hotel provides reasonably priced good size meals every night of week and a children's menu. The outdoor areas are particularly lovely in good weather (the Heysen Trail runs behind the garden). Next door, The Bridgewater Mill has expensive but very fine dining - its cellar door offers free tastings and is open daily. Getting AroundYou will need a car to get around as the supermarket and local shops are about a 6 minute drive by car. You can walk to shops but it is hilly and you will need to fit and have plenty of time. The weather can be unpredictable and can bring frost, fog and a lot of rain in winter but rarely snow. However there are plenty of indoor places to visit or you can stay home and chill out watching the native birds on the patio. Other Things to NoteThe hot water is instant gas powered and takes a while for the hot water to come through but then there will be plenty. All the rest of the house is on electricity so in the slight chance of a power failure, I have provided torches and candles for your convenience. Wifi is unlimited so feel free to bring your ipads or tablets and HDMI cable (however be aware that the internet in hills can be unreliable) and you can catch up on your favourite shows or games and keep the kids entertained if the weather turns wet! I always leave tea, coffee, milk, biscuits, breakfast cereals etc and a bottle of local wine for your enjoyment. If you arrive late, I will leave some extra supplies for you. I leave extra clean towels and plenty of toilet paper and other products, however if you run out you will have to provide your own. There are also some old clean towels for use on beach, removing makeup or other messy activities. I don't provide servicing during your stay, however I will provide extra linen if you stay longer than a week.
