There are two outdoor decks and walking paths with sculptures. Inside is a large kitchen, library, sun room and sitting room. We are mostly working in studio so are available if you have any questions or are looking for recommendations to eat, hike and explore. With easy access from highway 401 this is an ideal place to stop if you are en route from Montreal to Toronto, Niagara Falls or coming from New York state. Getting AroundIdeally you will have a car to visit the lakes and trails, see the numerous small towns, antique stores, festivals and events as well as a casino, the Playhouse theatre, 1000 island boat tours, national park, provincial park and much more. The master bedroom, name Garden room, is located on the second floor of the property. It has a Queen size bed and a spacious private bathroom with large bath and separate shower. The two other rooms, name 1000 Islands and Mansarde rooms are located on the third floor. They both have a Queen size bed and a single size bed each. Those two rooms share a common bathroom on the third floor with bath and shower. The property has a central air conditioning and heating system, Wi-Fi internet, a flat screen TV, a good DVD collection, Art books and magazines. The owner operator resides on site at all time, on the first floor. It is a B & B. Personalized services including breakfast, lunch, diner, house cleaning and laundry can be provided. We also have a choice of quality local and French wines. Breakfast is included in the price if guests are having dinner at the B & B. The property can be rented for receptions, corporate events and weddings. It has a liquor licence, restaurant and catering permit. It can be rented by days, weeks or on a monthly basis.         The SpaceThe Cottage has three bedrooms: a furnished master bedroom outfitted with knotty pine and a private sliding glass door to the front deck, a second bedroom with a full bed, and the third with a bunk bed (two twin mattresses). The Kitchen is fully loaded with cooking supplies and has a full range, double sink, drinking water dispenser, two refrigerators and a nook to the dining area. The Living Room has two comfy sofas, cable TV and a panoramic view of the river. A wood-burning stove nestled in the corner is more than enough to warm the whole cottage even on the chilliest of nights. Portable electric baseboard heaters are available for use as well in every room. The Bathroom was recently remodeled with a full tub and shower. The Porch is fully screened-in and encased in knotty pine with a panoramic view of the river. Front and Back Deck: Large front deck with table and umbrella. Small back deck for grilling and sunsets. A Private Dock secures your boat(s) and leads to a private flat grassy area along the riverbank complete with lounge chairs and a small fire pit. The Yard is large flat grassy/sandy area suitable for outdoor games. Guest AccessYou will have access to everything except the shed and pump house (for the safety of our guests). Interaction with GuestsYou will have the entire premises to yourself for the duration of your stay. Please respect our wonderful and friendly neighbors. The NeighborhoodHiking: Take a wondrous hike through a myriad of ecosystems down a network of right-of-way paths from your backyard on Tar Island. Or paddle/motor over to neighboring Grenadier Island for a longer excursion with surprising interpretive sites. Swimming: With one of the best swimming areas on the river, this spot boasts a long waist-deep sand bar of warm clear waters that reach out to the top of the channel bank where you and the kids can safely float, swim and play water games. Paddling: Before anyone else wakes up, enjoy a magnificent sunrise paddle on our two 12' Necky Manitou kayaks complete with carbon fiber paddles and kayaker's flotation vests. (ALWAYS WEAR A PFD!) Fishing: Catch bass, pike, pickerel and perch right from the dock. Or take your boat out for some trophy-sized catches of salmon, trout, walleye and muskies! Hunting: Enjoy the fall hunting season by returning to a quiet island refuge in the heart of waterfowl country. Warm your feet by the wood stove. Water Sports: There's an endless playground of safe calm water outside the channel to go waterskiing or tubing! Foil boarding anyone? Scuba Diving: World-class scuba diving on well-preserved historical wrecks. Sightseeing: Bolt Castle (Heart Island, Alexandria Bay, NY); Singer Castle (Dark Island, Chippewa Bay, NY); Antique Boat Museum (750 Mary St. Clayton, NY); Historic Kingston, Gananoque and Brockville, ON Getting AroundYou must have water transportation to get to the cottage. There are no roads/cars on Tar Island. If you don't plan to bring or rent a boat or kayaks/canoes, a water taxi is available at Andress Boat Works during normal business hours from/to Rockport, ON which is about 2 miles from the cottage. We recommend making reservations for a water taxi at least a day ahead of time. Other Things to NoteDO NOT DRINK or cook with the water from the faucets. There is a drinking water dispenser next to the kitchen faucet employing a reverse osmosis filtration system. Be advised that the water coming from the dispenser will be luke-warm for the first few seconds. HOT WATER IS EXTREMELY HOT!!! Use extreme caution when setting the water temperature at all faucets and especially in the shower. For those crossing the border, fret not: there is clear signal from American cellular providers from the island.

The cottage is conveniently located close to the village of Charleston where there is a marina, boat launch and boat rentals as well as a restaurant and ice cream parlour. Cottage is separable into 2 levels. The upper level (over 1,000 square feet) walks out to the lake and has 2 bedrooms, bathroom with tub, fullsize modern kitchen with dinning area, and a large sunroom with large TV/DVD player. The lower level (which can be closed off for noise!) is over 800 square feet of brand new construction has 2 bedrooms, bathroom with shower, and large common room with large tv/dvd. It walks out to a large flat playing field. Over 2,000 square feet of outdoor patio seating on multiple levels. 2 barbecues, 2 large outdoor dining areas, each with seating for 8+. There is also a Cabana right at the dock which has a large sitting area and could be used as a 5th bedroom. The Thousand Islands is in the heart of the St. Lawrence River, running along the Canadian side of the border from Kingston to Brockville and from Cape Vincent to Morristown on the US side. The Canada/U.S. border runs down the middle of the islands and is clearly shown on all marine charts. Ontario is bounded on the north by Hudson Bay and James Bay, on the east by Quebec, on the west by Manitoba, and on the south by the U.S. states of Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Ontario's long American border is formed almost entirely by lakes and rivers. While in the area, one can visit Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Niagara Falls or NYC, Boston or Washington within a few hours to a day's drive.The nearest airport is in Syracuse NY (90 minutes), Ottawa, Ont., (90 minutes), Montreal, Que.
