The SpaceHillside Gardens Retreat is located in one of Alice Springs' quietest suburbs (5km from town) as there is no through road. The house was architecturally designed as three distinct pavilions with the guest pavilion being on its own and connected to the rest of the house by an enclosed passageway. There are striking, natural sandstone features throughout and around the house and the house is filled with art from all other the world including Bill's folly (you have to book to see this one). Guest AccessPlease note that there are multiple steps from the street to the front door and 5 internal steps from the lounge to the kitchen and dining area. Guests have access to their own bathroom with waterfall shower and huge bathtub, perfect for a radox soak. The bathroom will open to a fully enclosed garden with water feature. Irons, washing machine, and shared kitchen with coffee pod machine are all available, with your own kettle, cups, tea and coffee in the room. You also have access to your own TV with free to air stations, or share cable TV with your host. On arrival you will be provided with the access code for the wireless internet which is provided free of charge. In summer, your room is airconditioned and the pool is at your disposal and there are a number of areas to sit around the house, many with commanding views of the East McDonnell ranges. In Winter you will be greeted with a warm fire, heating in your room and electric blanket if you really want to feel snug. You can even use Bill's road bike or mountain bike if you are feeling energetic. Interaction with GuestsWe are very friendly hosts, but also understand that sometimes people just want time out. So we are willing to be your most talkative hosts or respect your desire for solitude. Either way you will be extended a warm, heartfelt welcome. The NeighborhoodHillside Gardens is just under the East MacDonnell ranges on the far eastern side of Alice Springs. Walk or ride out the back gate into Crown reserve. 10 mins walk will place you on hills where you can watch the sun rise or set on the MacDonnell Ranges and there are tracks for walking all through the reserve. You will even spot a kangaroo or two and the bird life is second to none. Often with massive flocks of budgies wheeling through the trees, or black neck green parrots. 10 mins walk will also place you at the golf club for a round of golf! Getting AroundUnfortunately, in this area there is no public transport. We do have two bikes to choose from if necessary. We can most times collect you from and return you to the airport, depending on work commitments. Most times we are able to deliver you to the very early morning bus services to Uluru. The nearest pick up point (Lassiters Casino) is at the other end of Stephens Road. We highly recommend Central Car Rentals as they are the only rental car service offering a 300km per day limit where as all other are 100km per day, and for a very reasonable price. Other Things to NoteNote that we are 5km from town and not in walking distance. If you are thinking of staying only one night in Alice, you are truly going to miss out on one of the most beautiful areas in Central Australia - it is worth delaying your trip for a day or two to absolutely experience the beauty of this region. We have the world's fluffiest, friendliest cat who thinks its his life mission to get you to adore him. He is a totally inside cat for many reasons.

It's a bright and cheerful space, with a shady and leafy back patio that has views of the MacDonnell Ranges in the distance. One of the rooms has a brand new sofa bed with an additional foam mattress top. (No springs or metal bars with this sofa bed!) It extends to a full double bed size. Included with your stay comes breakfast each day (cereal/porridge, toast, tea/coffee and fruit), as well as towels, linen and soap. Guest AccessShared access to : TV BBQ Kitchen Laundry Hairdryer Living room Swimming pool Bathroom (and separate toilet) Private heater and fan Wi-fi is included Interaction with GuestsThe entire unit is available for rent in October 2016. Your key will be left out for you, along with a welcome pack of recommended tips and things to do in Alice Springs. The NeighborhoodMost people who visit Alice Springs are on their way to Uluru, Kings Canyon, the MacDonnell Ranges, the Devil's Marbles etc. But Alice Springs itself has such an incredible number of interesting things to see and do, that it's worth planning an extra few days to really do it justice. There is a large creative and artistic community in Alice Springs, who are always planning quirky festivals and events. Here are a selection: The Beanie Festival (June) The Camel Cup (July) The Alice Springs Show (July) Henley on Todd Boat Regatta (Aug) Desert Mob Art Exhibition (Sept) Bush Bands Bash (Sept) Alice Desert Festival (Sept) Other recommendations of places to visit: * Strolling along Todd Mall to visit the Aboriginal art galleries *The Alice Springs Desert Park (don't miss the daily bird shows! And the wildflowers can be incredible) *Araluen Art Centre (Check to see what is on when you come - theatre, dance, performance, comedy, art exhibitions etc) *The School of the Air *The Reptile Centre * The Flying Doctors Museum * The Overland Telegraph Station * The Sunday markets on Todd Mall The best restaurants are all located walking distance from our unit - including an excellent coffee right across the road at the Olive Pink Botanical Gardens cafe. There are lovely walks to do from our place - along the banks of the dry Todd River, through the botanical gardens (where you can see lots of wildlife early in the mornings) and through the golf course (the first hole of the course is just a short stroll away.) The weather is divine in autumn and spring but specially during winter - crisp nights and warm, sunny days (usually around 20-24 degrees C). During summer it normally stays in the low 30s*C but can also get close to 40*C Jan-Feb. The heat is mitigated by the dryness of the desert though, so doesn't feel nearly as hot as a 38*C day in Sydney! Getting AroundThere isn't much public transport in town so the best way to get around Alice Springs is by bicycle, especially as there are no hills and everything is a short distance away. We have four bikes for rent at $10 each per day. Just let us know at the time of your booking if you'd like to use them. There's a scenic bike path that leaves from our house and follows the river all the way to the Old Telegraph Station. Another beautiful bike trip is to Simpsons Gap along the bike path that follows the ranges the whole way. There is a shuttle bus that makes the trip between the airport and town ($16), which is more affordable than a private taxi ($40). For short trips around town, taxis are a good idea in the middle of summer. Other Things to Noteust l
