There are 3 whitewater rivers within 10 minute drive from cabin...view from Lake Fontana from driveway, nearby swimming hole on the lake...clean air, wildlife, green with lots of towering trees, peace and quiet as well as numerous outdoor activities to choose from all within 20 minute drive and cabin. Cabin has wi-fi & cellular phone service. Previous guests have enjoyed hiking, white water rafting, zip line, mountain biking, canoeing, Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, swimming, stand up paddle boarding, Smoky Mountain National Park, Harrahs Casino or just relaxing....Wildlife abounds here. You may even see a Black Bear, wild turkeys, deer, bobcat, pileated woodpecker, hawk, hummingbird, or bald eagle in the area. Late September & October are prime Fall Leaf Color Season. The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad is based in nearby Bryson City and the "Polar Express" is a popular family experience in December. The Appalachian Foot Trail runs from Georgia to Maine and is only 10 minutes away along with numerous other hiking trails within the area. Great smoky mountain national park is merely 20 minutes away at Deep Creek near sleepy town of Bryson City. Waterfalls to see. Nantahala Outdoor Center 10 minutes away. The Harrah's Cherokee Casino is 30 minutes away for gambling, good food and entertainment. There are also numerous restaurants in nearby Bryson City - please check the guidebook. Bryson City recently rated #1 outdoor city by Blue Ridge Outdoor magazine!! City of Asheville with night life is 70 minute drive for those desiring some city night life. We can get A LOT OF RAIN in this area as it is considered a temperate rain forest. Please read "house rules" specifically the cancellation policy in regards to forecasted heavy & long term rains which may occur during your reservation. Getting AroundYou are in the country surrounded by national park and national forest! Town of Bryson City is 15 minutes from cabin. You will need a car to get around. The road to the cabin is state maintained but is on a mountain with lots of sharp turns and switchbacks for 1 mile. 4 wheel drive is not necessary but in winter months there may be snow or ice. The road is plowed and salted if there is snow or ice. Weather in this area can vary greatly in the winter months and snow is not uncommon. Nearest airports with car rentals are Asheville NC (1.5 hrs), Knoxville TN (2.5 hrs), and Atlanta GA (3 hours). Other Things to NoteI live locally and can certainly help with directions and suggestions of fun things to do in the area. If you wish to go rafting on the beautiful Nantahala River, let me know as my nephew is an experienced river guide and I can set you up personally with him to coordinate your trip. The nearby town of Bryson City offers grocery stores, restaurants, Urgent care, Hospital, Vet if needed. Closest 24 hour emergency vet is in Asheville 80 miles east. The cabin is in the woods, there are a handful of homes nearby...most of the county which the cabin lies in is national forest or national park. Please make effort to keep trash with any food secured and if placed outside in the trash bin, that the cover is securely closed.
