Interaction with GuestsHappy to answer questions about where to go & what to do. Definitely want to make sure you're comfortable. I lead a fairly active and independent lifestyle, so unless you need me, I will give you lots of space. The NeighborhoodMy house is ideally located near I-95 and I-495, less than 5 minutes from the highway...on a quiet little street with plenty of trees. Beaches, nature trails, beautiful open spaces...we've got it all. Shops, restaurants, entertainment, farm stands and farmers markets are all close by. If there's something you're particularly looking for, just ask me. Also, be sure to check out all the tips in my GUIDEBOOK here on Airbnb. Getting AroundYou are going to want to have a car to get around. Airports: 45 minutes from Logan Airport (BOS/Boston) to the south and Manchester Airport (MHT, Manchester, NH) to the north. Personally, MHT is easier to get in and out of. I-495, exit 54 is less than five minutes away. I-95 is 5 minutes north from here. I-93 is just 20 minutes south of here. Hampton Tolls and I-101 are 10 minutes to the north. Boston is less than an hour away via car, train or bus. Scenic Newburyport and Plum Island are next door to Amesbury. Beaches nearby: Salisbury, Hampton, Rye, Plum Island. Close to bike trails & scenic rides. Fishing, sailing, kayak rentals and whale watches. SHOPPING: lovely local shops in downtown Newburyport & Amesbury, MA; Portsmouth & Exeter,NH; Rockingham Mall in Salem, NH; Newington Mall in Portsmouth, NH; Northshore Mall in Peabody, MA; Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers, MA; Kittery Outlets in Kittery, ME Antiques and thrift finds all over Other Things to NoteI have four very sweet rescue dogs -- two small, two medium-- plus one cat. They are all very friendly and good natured. Kana, the beautiful black & tan dog, can sometimes be a bit protective, but if you offer your hand under her chin and acknowledge her, you'll get along fine. Just don't ignore her. Because from her point of view, that's what burglars do. Reggie, the little white dog, gets really excited and yappy in a happy way. If you tell him he's adorable, you will make his day. Abby, the curly blonde girl, loves to hug. It's a wheaten thing. If it's not your thing, just gently tell her to get down. Milo, aka Mr. Moo, has trouble walking, so you may not even see him. But if you hear something that sounds like a baby seal, that is him aarping. He's mostly deaf, but if you feel like saying hi go ahead. He is bright eyed, bushy tailed, and maybe my favorite. (Sssssssh) Tuukka, the boy cat, loves to drink from the tub in your bathroom. If you don't mind indulging him, just turn it on so it trickles and shut it off when he's done. If you don't want him in there, please be sure to keep the door closed. He is a big orange boy and maybe the gentlest soul on the planet. He obeys better than most dogs and will be delirious with joy if you just scratch his back. For the most part, I keep them out of your way using gates & room dividers. But if you want some puppy love, we are more than happy to oblige. And if you're not a big fan of cats and dogs, well, we will try to understand and keep our distance. But frankly, you're really missing out. :-)

The SpaceThe Room: Private entrance to our guest room, attached bathroom with shower. New Queen bed, flat screened TV, shelves and dresser. Clothes rack in the hallway. There is not a fridge in the guest room. See "KITCHEN" under "other things to note" and you will see the information regarding use of the kitchen. The Carriage House living style: We are a warm and welcoming family. You will be greeted and welcomed to a home that offers privacy. Your airy guest room is in it's own wing of the house. The bedroom leads into a large private hall with entrance to kitchen. Guest AccessThe entrance is a courtyard with private parking. The front of the Carriage House has a large barn door with entrances on either side through arched doorways. When you first arrive you are welcome to enter through the archway with the door on the left. Push it open as it sticks during the humid weather. If we are not there to guide you please walk on back to the door with the two red chairs in front of it. That is the door after the sliding glass doors on your right. That is your room with its own private entrance. From your room you may access the hallway into the kitchen. I have notes for you in the room to explain anything you need! Interaction with GuestsWe are here to be good hosts and guides for the town, restaurants, state park trails as well as beach access to both the wonderful Plum Island 5 miles from our doorway and Salisbury Beach just over the bridge and up the road. Special driving directions to the Carriage House will be given at time of reservation. Please print them out and take them with you. Along with your GPS these notes on directions will be very helpful. The NeighborhoodWe are tucked into the woods with magnificent grounds on a one lane road alongside an historic mansion where lovely neighbors reside. Driving in past the mansion needs to be slow and careful, as our neighbors have free range chickens that will sometimes cross the road on your way to our Carriage House. The Carriage House borders historic Maudsley State Park and trails lead from the house to the park and it's 450-acres. The park was once home to a wealthy investment banker Frederick Strong Moseley and his family. The Moseleys were an old English family that first came to America in the early 1600s. The family first purchased the land in the 1860s and continued to buy surrounding property until they had created a large estate that they named Maudsleigh after their ancestral home in England. The park is welcoming with marvelous hiking trails and events that take place in the park. The State Park Information house is located in Maudsley State Park near their parking lot. All walking and hiking distance from the Carriage House. Getting AroundImportant to have your own car. Be sure to have good walking shoes or your bicycle if you choose to go to town without a vehicle. Bikes are welcome on the state park trails as well. Horses too. Other Things to NoteKITCHEN: I totally understand if your interest is not eating out. The kitchen is included for breakfast in the overnight charge but it is $20 a day extra for total use of kitchen and grill for all meals or for as many as you like during the day. You may pay me for that when you arrive. There is not a small fridge in the guest space but when you let me know you are taking the kitchen during your stay we will make room in the fridge and the freezer for your food GROUNDS: The grounds are thick and lush and the forest surrounding the Carriage House is full of flowers and birds. The river is just a few minutes up the path out the door. That same path will take you miles along the river into The State Park. Or you may circle back to the Carriage House grounds on one of 3 different paths.

The SpaceThe cottage is relaxing and comfortable, but it is really all about the outside. Make yourself at home under the shady big tree or head out onto the dock to soak up some rays. The home used to be a cottage and has some quirkiness to it with some unlevel floors, but we love the added character. Guest AccessOur home is your home. Feel free to wander but please avoid the office (off the sunroom) since we are currently using it for personal storage. Also, note that the shed has a lot of tools and is a bit cluttered so please avoid going in there as well. Interaction with GuestsPlease feel free to text or call at any time. We want to make sure that you have an enjoyable stay. The NeighborhoodOur neighbors love walking along Lake Attitash Rd with their dogs. It's an easy ride to downtown Amesbury where there are great shops and restaurants. Getting AroundThe house is about a 15-minute drive to the Newburyport and Haverhill commuter line stations. The C&J bus terminal in Newburyport is also about 15 minutes away. Other Things to NoteAs with most lakes in MA, it's good to stay in the know about levels of cyanobacteria. Please visit the Lake Attitash association website to learn more about the lake and get current Cyanobacteria readings.
