The SpaceThe cottage is only two hours north of Madison and yet it feels like you are way up north. The lake is very clear and clean with great swimming and fishing. Electricity has been updated and new appliances added. There are skylights in the main room. This great place however is not for everyone. It is very primitive. The cabin is unfinished and the bathroom is an outhouse. There is no shower. Please bring your own towels and sheets (full size beds). Bring your own drinking water. There is non-potable water from a pump by the cabin that can be used for cleaning, not drinking. Drinking water is available at Lake Helen County Park by Morning Wood Bar & Grill. Leave the cabin as you found it; we do not live nearby and are not around to clean up after every guest. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire cottage. The cottage itself is 399 square feet. The lake is very safe and shallow and my son loves it. Interaction with GuestsI will not be around so there will be no interaction for now. My neighbors enjoy quiet and miss very little. The NeighborhoodThe lake is very quiet morning and evening. No wake lake between 4pm and 10am strictly enforced. Getting AroundVery close to Sunset Lake and some great country biking. Great canoeing also on the Little Wolf River and Plover River.

From its solar water heat to the recycled lumber, this cabin packs many eco-sensitive features to bring you comfort in style. Its artistic flair can be experienced in everything in the handcrafted countertops, the exquisite tree staircase, and right down to the mosaic bathroom floor. You'll be pleasantly toasty in the winter with the radiant heat and gas fireplace. Plenty of windows and open floorplan keeps the space light-filled throughout the day. Need to unwind? Let the jacuzzi massage the tension away. Read a book in the airy loft. Watch a DVD. Or simply take a walk to the neighboring Cameron House (on the same property). Biking, canoeing, trout fishing, hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, are a few activities for you to enjoy on your vacation. Eco Sensitive: This cabin was built in 2008 using sustainably harvested trees. The roof substructure and all major beams were repurposed from older buildings in the area. The building is mainly insulated with a green, soy-based spray foam insulation which keeps the interior warm and quiet. The radiant heat and water heating system is powered through a solar / gas-boiler combination system. All makes for a quiet, even heat that foot-warming friendly. It keeps the air more comfortable and less dusty in the winter when compared to forced-air systems. This is a boon for those with indoor allergies and asthma.

Here’s the skinny, “That 70’s Lake House” located on Lake Iola is now available to rent for the first time to aficionados who dig retro charm, modern day conveniences, wonderful views, and a vibe that has been long since forgotten. This groovy peaceful lakefront getaway will surely provide a memorable experience. Lake Iola is located downtown Iola, WI. The lake is (210) acres of crystal clear water for recreational activities. The lake is technically a mill pond and is particularly well suited for the silent sports such as canoeing, kayaking and paddle boating. The fishing is great and the wildlife is to behold. The lake is the perfect place for a quiet day or evening of fishing or watching a rad sunset from the seat of your kayak. A short paddle away is downtown Iola offering a choice of dining and entertainment. The house is truly the bomb, it’s light and airy with plenty of windows for cross breezes and sounds of the Northwoods. The original house was built in 1975, it has been modernized to the max and blends vintage interior treatments while keeping that 70’s air about the place. The open floor plan offers a cool place to veg out and chill with family, friends or your loved one. The gathering room features a: fab electric orange Preway fire place, vaulted gable ceiling, exposed pine beams and is tastefully furnished in the colors and styles of the day. It’s the natural center point for activity in the cottage. Breaking from the 70’s theme is a flat screen television with HDTV channels delivered by antenna and a Blu-Ray DVD player for watching your favorite 70’s shows such as Taxi and the Brady Bunch. The cupboard is stocked with family friendly DVD's, books and board games from the 70’s. Unfortunately, we hate to say it but the internet wasn’t invented in the 70’s so you’ll be forced to hang with friends and family and converse with each other. The open concept kitchen has just been given a face lift complete with modern cabinetry, new appliances consisting of; full size refrigerator, a dishwasher, electric range and oven, traditional coffee maker, a microwave, toaster, and new cookware. An orange Weber style kettle grill is located on the deck for those of you who feel so inclined to cook. The peninsula offers an eat-at counter with two swivel bar stools. The dining area is located near the deck in the gathering room. It features seating for four around a retro ChromCraft dining set with the most comfortable burnt orange high back swivel chairs. The two bedrooms in the cottage are generously sized and feature items from the 70’s. The loft bedroom, with its view out to the lake, has a new queen size bed. The first floor bedroom, is decked out with 70’s art and vintage lighting to set the mood, it also has a queen sized bed. Both bedrooms are outfitted with large closets to keep your clothes wrinkle free. Located on the west side of the house, perfect for watching sunsets, avoiding the bugs or staying dry when it’s raining is a nicely sized three season room with a double sofa, a electric Preway fireplace, hanging chair and a game table. Additionally, it wouldn’t be a 70’s house without a funky orange hand chair. The bathroom has been updated with all new fixtures including a vessel sink, tub and shower. And just in case you have too much fun or just stay to long and run out of clothing a new stackable washer and dryer is available for your use. The deck has ample room for gathering or just kicking back and relaxing. It has a four place patio table for outdoor dining and a full complement of vintage outdoor chairs. The deck offers a free and clear view across the bay to an undeveloped shoreline reminiscent of lakes father north. A campfire ring complete with complimentary firewood is located in the back of the house and has lake views. Guests have access to a retro (4) person Pelican paddle boat or (2) single person kayaks. Life jackets are available for sizes 30 lbs. to adult. There’s a dock in case you want to tether your own boat or one of the complimentary ones. Also available for your use is a pair of vintage his and hers 70’s Huffy bicycles, perfect for cruising down town for lunch, an ice cream cone or a piece of the best pie around at the Crystal Café.

Our house sits on a half-acre lot located on a quiet street that rings 61-acre Sunset Lake. At 55 feet, this lake is one of the deepest in Portage County, and the water quality is excellent. In summer, enjoy swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing on this no-wake lake. (Note that our Sunset Lake is not the lake with the same name located in the Chain of Lakes. However, from our house it's only a half-hour drive to the Chain of Lakes.) Hiking on the Ice Age Trail and cycling on low-traffic roads in the area are great in late spring, summer, and fall. In the winter, enjoy cross-country skiing and ice fishing. The Iola Winter Sports Club (open to non-members) is located about 5 miles from our house. Please note that NO HUNTING IS PERMITTED ON OUR PROPERTY. The split-level, 2,000 sq-ft house is cozy and comfortable. A master bedroom, two smaller bedrooms, and one bath are located on the top level. A game area with a pool table, a sitting area in front of a fireplace, and a second bath are located on the lower level. On the main level are the dining area, den, laundry room with washer and dryer, and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped, including stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, cooking pots and utensils, and dishware. Bath towels and bed linens are supplied. There is an attached 2-car garage, central heating and central air, WiFi, cable, a flat-screen TV, and local and long-distance phone service. From the dining area, step onto a deck that looks on a yard with mature trees that slopes down to 100 feet of lakefront with a sand shore. The swimming area is also sandy until about 4-5 feet deep (where it begins to get somewhat mucky). An aluminum dock is at shore level -- no stairs to climb. There's good fishing, including walleye, panfish, bluegill, and trout. A fire pit is in the back yard. (Note that, per State regulations, due to oak wilt and pests, firewood from a source farther than 20 miles from our house can't be brought in. You can buy firewood from our manager at a very reasonable price.) Many annual events are held in the area throughout the year--such as the Iola Car Show in July, the Energy Fair in June, the Iola Winter Carnival in February, the Waupaca Festival of the Arts in August, and the Hidden Studios Art Tour in October. The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MERA) holds workshops in the area. The Central Wisconsin Environmental Station, which sponsors camps and workshops, is located on Sunset Lake a short distance away. Central Waters Brewing Company, located in nearby Amherst, brews a variety of great beers and is open Friday-Sunday evenings. On Saturday and Sunday mornings (8 am until noon), nationally known Ruby Coffee Roasters has a tasting room open in nearby Nelsonville. Great gelato and pizza can be had at The Millstone of Iola Mills in nearby Iola. No smoking allowed. Pets are considered. (There is a $10 per night extra charge for pets.) Winter accessibility: The house is on a township road that is plowed regularly, and the sidewalk and driveway are cleaned after any substantial snow.
