The house faces a baseball field facility which may or may not be busy, along with a new playground at the far end of the street. A paved walking path encircles the facility, about a one mile stroll with pond, wetlands, beavers and songbirds in the back of the area. For the adventuresome, there are walking/running paths through the woods behind the wetlands, maintained by the school district. Great for a morning or evening walk. The whole area is very safe and crime-free. Interaction with GuestsI am not providing a full "B and B" experience with breakfast, although if I have time I may have breakfast goodies available. I list my maximum stay for 2 nights as I still work full time, leaving me little time to interact with my guests although I love to chat if I'm present. If you need extra nights' accommodations, feel free to ask. The NeighborhoodIt's quiet, it's safe and it has all the amenities I need close by. There are beaches to stroll, hikes to explore and pubs to enjoy with live music some where most nights. Terrific small owned-by-the- chef restaurants that specialize in local foods served healthy. We have four main city parks/playgrounds along with a 200 acres beach/woodland Washington Park with camping and boat launch, along with a separate 200 or so acres of hike-able, bike-able Anacortes Forestlands with a regionally famous rock climbing mountain face, all encompassing some 5 pristine lakes. Multiple marinas, boat launches, and protected waters for day sailing, kayaking or paddle boarding.
We have a highly rated 75 bed hospital and ER with helipad in case you require emergency health care with excellent physicians, along with state of the art lab and radiology departments that are one-stop shopping in a very smoothly run operation. Many terrific specialists move here on the last step of their medical career!
My central location makes transportation, running to the store, or getting a quick or a couple-hours of work-out a breeze. We have a world-class wine store and upper-end groceries with full-selection liquor departments.
Saturdays start our in Anacortes with a public market at the old railroad depot with organic produce vendors, bakers, cheese/meat fish suppliers, along with flowers, vegetable starts, foodcarts and craftspeople. During the summer months the Farmer's Market is also opened Wednesday evenings with the addition of a beer garden, a new local hangout for the baby boomers after work. Getting AroundThe local Skagit "SKAT" (don't ask who came up with that one..) transit runs hourly around Anacortes with transfers to the larger Skagit transit system, usually a $1 fee. SKAT also ties in to the free Island Transit (Whidbey and Camano Island) system on Hiway 20 at March's Point out by the refineries. All systems meet at the regional Transit Center at downtown Mt Vernon on Interstate 5/Kincaid St exit--county transit system buses, greyhounds, and trains. For current ferry schedules, be sure to go online at Washington State DOT, selecting ferry system as the schedules and prices change quarterly. Locally, we have several 24 hour taxi services due to temporary refinery workers. Mert's Taxi is available here locally on Fidalgo Island. From my location, it's a fairly easy walk into the downtown area for restaurants, stores or a walk around the marina.
