The SpaceWe offer a totally private 2 bedroom apartment, completely furnished and decorated with art, antiques, books, and useful household things that will make your vacation comfortable. It is DOWNSTAIRS but is bright and light. Both bedrooms have queen size beds, with linens and towels provided. A Private entrance at the back looks out on a private patio with fire pit and BBQ and lawns and gardens. Let us know if travelling with a Baby. We offer a nice clean crib and linens. We have Wi-fi, along with a large screen TV offering Apple Tv, and Netflix. We have a hair dryer for your use. Big Island is a small, non commercialized island close to the shore in Pictou County on the warm waters of the Northumberland Straight. It ages back to 400 years starting with First Nations and Acadians peoples and later inhabited by British soldiers given the land as pensions. Even today, there are under 30 full time residents. Guest AccessYou'll have a nice private patio with comfy furniture and an umbrella. Private parking space too. On the private patio is a Fire Pit and utensils to do hotdogs and marshmallows...and wood will be provided for free. A propane BBQ is provided for your use also. There are two beaches on Big Island. We have the warmest waters north of the Carolinas. Just walk the beaches or have a swim, or walk the island road. Bird watching is huge here. Many artists have painted the beach scenes. A provincial groomed Beach is approx 20 min. away. Bring your bug spray. "Rental is a minimum of 2 nights." The apartment is meant for a maximum of 4 people ...that is two to each bedroom. Interaction with GuestsWe try to welcome our guests but it is not always possible. Keys, and instructions, if needed, will be provided when we are not able to greet you. The house has a full apartment upstairs and the one being offered here, is DOWNSTAIRS. Both have private entrances at opposite end of the house. Although we sometimes may be upstairs ....we assure completed and total privacy. We have two friendly cats that may be seen outside in the yard or gardens. The NeighborhoodThis is truly one of the most unique places in the world to live. In summer it's all about the Beach and enjoying outside. Autumn too is spectacular here! There is a local store before the causeway that sells beer, liquor and some food supplies. There are several towns ...4 of them, 30 minutes away. Cape Breton is about 1.5 hours. Relax...site see...if you want a more Provincial type of beach, there is one 20 min. Away called Melmerby Provincial Beach. And it is very safe here. Getting AroundYou need a car to get here. But it's a great walk on the road for local rural scenery. You could easily bike the island though. It's about 10 km. one beach is a 3 min. Car drive and the other is about 6 minutes. The causeway is natural and paved many years ago. Unfortunately a "rock wall" has been put in place to hold back the climate changing sea from washing out the road in the winter. It disrupts the beauty. But the beach is 5 km. long and lovely to swim in, watch sunsets and walk. At the other end of the island is the west beach...lovely to walk around and in low tide, you can walk out a long ways and collect sand dollars. The autumn is a beautiful season here...you may still be able to swim..but you can walk the beach and the island road. Other Things to NoteWe offer a 2 night minimum rental for a maximum of 4 people. If you are travelling with a Baby we offer a clean crib and bedding.

The SpaceThe property lies sheltered on a 12 km long and 4 km wide, quiet ocean bay of the Atlantic Ocean. Lying south of the Antigonish Harbour, on the beautiful Sunrise Trail, 8 min away from the University town of Antigonish. Due to the lake character of the bay, water temperatures during the summer reach up to 28° C / 86° F. It is the warmest sea water in all of Canada. The Northumberland Strait reaches the warmest temperatures of North Carolina (USA) during the summer. The sheltered ocean bay is suitable for sailing, boating, fishing, swimming, diving, surfing and canoeing or kayaking in the summer and ice-skating, ice-fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Within a few minutes by boat you can reach the open sea. The wildlife on the property incl. sea otters, deer, gophers, rabbits, beavers, seals, bald eagles, raccoons, lynxes and many birds. The water is rich with fish. In small side streams you can also find various fresh water fish in addition to salt water fish. The advantage of the bay over the open sea is lesser spray, breakers, surf, humidity, waves and tidal range. You can safely enjoy all water sports. At times of climate change the sheltered bay is very interesting and important. There is a sort of natural damn with a 40 m wide canal which connects the bay with the open sea. The water contains less salt than the ocean water because this is where three small rivers float into the bay. The property has a size of approx. 25 acres with its own waterfront, 150 m of ocean front along the Pomquet Cove and 250 m of ocean front along the Antigonish Harbour. Small hills cover the land which smoothly declines towards the water. Most of the land is wooded areas with clearings. The coast water is shallow (good for children) and the beach is made up of stones and pebbles. The mixed forest is complete with native trees, bushes, wild flower, and other plants. Guest AccessGood news! You have access to all parts of the property except the private room and the detached Garage. Why? The owners need to store some of their things too when they live there! Interaction with GuestsIf you need any help during your stay, just call or e-mail us! We do hospitality the Nova Scotia way - which means we are available at your disposal to provide useful tips on things to do in the area, place to see and visit, and ofcourse recommend where to eat. Getting AroundThere is plenty of parking on the property. Transit is limited in Antigonish so we recommend you have a vehicle to get around. Taxis are available 24/7 and usually quick to respond. Taxi charges are very reasonable ($20 - $30 per trip) from/to Town and the surrounding areas. Other Things to Note**Please note there is a $500 CAD Deposit required which is not included in the price . The Deposit can be paid upon check-in and will be refunded within 7 days of check-out, provided there is no damage.** Besides the famous St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish offers all conveniences of a small town with good infrastructure: a large and renowned hospital (St. Martha's Hospital), countless restaurants, theatres, movie theatres, many shops and stores and two shopping malls with very customer friendly opening hours (inc. Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm), golf courts, tennis courts, a sport arena with exciting hockey games, swimming pools, home department stores, museums, galleries, all school types, playgrounds, kindergartens, doctors of all specialties, pubs with live music, the popular weekly farmers market, railroad stations and so on.
