The SpaceThe cottage is furnished simply and this is intentional. It is 'enough' and I like people to remember this. One can kayak, lie in a hammock with a good book, do yoga, play frisbee in the park or bike ride along the river. Coming to Country Harbour balances rest and play. Guest AccessNature, quiet, lack of interruption, time for naps and walks and simply being. There is a studio space for yoga, dancing or art. There is a river for all things water related including listening to the loons sing and sitting on the beach with your own sweet thoughts. Interaction with GuestsI leave this up to people. I can be social but like my space and like to give this to others. How much we interact is pretty easy to determine at the time we meet. Massage Therapy often works out spontaneously and there is an infared sauna as well. The NeighborhoodThere are not many neighbors here but the ones that are are gracious and interested in my guests. Energetically this is a very special place. Getting AroundIn one word NO. One must have their own source of transport and all things shopping, except a small convenience store (with liquor licence), are a distance to travel. Come prepared. Other Things to NoteThe cottage does not sit directly on the river. It is about a 5 min. walk from the cottage and there is boating access through provincial park which is less than a mile away. I have 2 kayaks on the river at my neighbors and they do not mind people accessing them.

The SpaceThe Prospector's Cottage is at Necum Teuch Harbour on the river estuary beside a scenic and pastoral coastal highway to Cape Breton. We are about 1/2 way between Halifax and Cape Breton Island. The property is secluded and private - a 4 bedroom, two bath century cottage that we have been renovating bit by bit. So far, there are two double bedrooms available, one downstairs with a full bath and one upstairs with a 1.5 bath. One single room upstairs could be readied if needed (children, etc.) The other large bedroom upstairs is not quite ready - still being painted, etc. but we do have other accommodation close by if needed. Loads of wild camping space too! Well, not too wild I hope ;-) Please note that the Prospector's is a housekeeping cottage - all the basics are there, including coffee, tea and fresh fruit but you need to bring the rest if you plan to cook. Be sure to make a stop in Sherbrooke (heading west) or Sheet Harbour (heading east) and stock up on groceries. There is a convenience store within walking distance with LCB etc. We aren't always here to respond quickly and with no cell service, 24 hrs is just a bit too tight, AirBnB! We'll get back to you as fast as we can. Guest AccessThe house is yours! At times, you may be sharing it with other guests unless you've booked the whole house, but this is rare. Includes kitchen, living room, bathroom, den, etc. as in pics. The great outdoors is yours to explore and we can help you find forest trails and ocean vistas that most tourists never see. Interaction with GuestsWe'll pop by and see that you're settled in and if there's anything you might need. Do you want to know about the area, best hiking trails, best places to swim, fish, kayak etc. just ask! Otherwise, we leave you to your own resources and respect that you need some down time 'away from the madding crowd'. The Prospector's is ideal for that! Fresh fruit bowl, etc on arrival. We're not far away but usually busy with our tree seedling business at (URL HIDDEN) The NeighborhoodYou are just a short drive from Sherbrooke Village and one of the most beautiful drives in the province along the St. Mary's River, on your way to Cape Breton - esp. in autumn! Also not far from the trails at Liscombe Mills (to the east) and Taylor's Head Hiking Trails to the west. The people of Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore are an amiable bunch of folks, always willing to lend a helping hand - and doing it with a smile. The village has a store (yep, liquor too) and a post office, a seaside playground and park -- and some secret places we'll share with you, if you're here long enough. Getting AroundNo bus from the city. Sorry, but we can arrange day trips and there are a few bikes on the property for coastal trekking. Please just ask us! We'll help you explore the shore! Other Things to NoteThe Prospectors is a heritage home and still being worked on (painting, etc) but not when we have guests. Old restored home/cottage. Please just feel comfortable and make yourselves at home. If you're camping winter or early spring, we're happy to let you 'wild camp' if you help with a bit of brush whacking and clean up. Please leave the place better than you found it! :-)

The town of Guysborough is also about an hour away. It has a grocery store, a few restaurants, a brew pub, golf course, the Court House museum, a place to rent kayaks, a Saturday morning farmer's market, etc. Getting AroundYou must have a car (or be a really, really good cyclist!) to get to Isaac's Harbour. Other Things to NoteMake sure you bring provisions for your stay. There is a gas station and small store about 7 kms away, but the best grocery shopping etc. is 70 kms awayin Antigonish or Guysborough. The house is in an idyllic location, which means there are also not a lot of services nearby!

The SpaceThis house is solid and comfortable. Built by shipbuilders from the kind of rough lumber that you can still buy at local sawmills. There are enough beds for seven, in the four bedrooms. The kitchen seats four comfortably and the dining room can hold eight. There is one bathroom, on the main floor, with no shower but a cast iron tub (with a pretty good view of the harbour). Guest AccessThe whole house is available. Interaction with GuestsWe will always be available by phone or email, and our year-round neighbours will be available for any emergencies. The NeighborhoodIsaacs Harbour is very quiet - the main road ends at an old lighthouse. So sitting and enjoying the solitude is high on the list of activities. But if you do go out, there are lots of uniquely Nova Scotian things to do. Antigonish, home of the Highland Games, is where you will probably go for groceries and other necessities. Note the bilingual (English/Gaelic) road signs along the way. Historic Sherbrooke Village is a short drive away, starting with a trip on the ferry "Stormont" across Country Harbour (one of the best natural harbours in North America). In the other direction is Guysborough, an historic town with a restaurant overlooking Chedabucto Bay. There are good beaches in both directions along the coast, and if you head back inland beyond Antigonish, the Canso Causeway will take you to all the beauty, history, and legendary music that is Cape Breton. Speaking of music, the annual Stan Rogers Folk Festival takes place in the town of Canso, about an hour away. And of course Halifax is about 2-1/2 hours drive, inland on the main highway, or along the coast on beautiful Marine Drive. But you don't have to drive everywhere. The local community centre has a gym where you can work out and, a short bike ride away, the Isaacs Harbour river has "The Falls" - a swimming hole that's like a natural water park. And keep an eye out for local "fish suppers" - a tradition that captures all the friendly hospitality of the Eastern Shore. Getting AroundWe are about 3 km down the Isaacs Harbour Road from highway 316 (Marine Drive). Antigonish is about 70 km away. There is no public transit. You are welcome to use the bikes. Other Things to NoteThe nearest big grocery store is in Antigonish - about 50 minutes drive - although there is gasoline and a few convenience stores along the way. The daily average temperature in the summer is about 18 C (65 F). Depending on the year, it can be cool some nights. The central heating is not currently in use, but the house is well insulated and the wood stove is great for taking the chill off and makes for a cozy atmosphere.
