The Space Our house has hardwood floors every where except the kitchen and bath are ceramic tile. Beautifully furnished. New dining table and chairs for six in a large well equipped kitchen/dining area. New leather sleeper sofa and love seat, new memory foam mattresses. Three new smart t.v.s, with cable and wi-fi, washer and dryer. side yard and private parking. I would like to stress, this is not a 1/2 double or duplex. This is a single family home. This is important if you value your privacy. Guest AccessThere is a small fenced yard on the side of the house with 2 crepe myrtle trees and a small lemon tree and always a great sunset. There is a small front porch with a table and chairs and a nice breeze. We have off street parking for two cars. Interaction with GuestsIf you need us we live in the house next door, but we will certainly respect your privacy. We can occasionally give you a lift downtown if our schedule permits. The NeighborhoodOld Arabi is the best kept secret in New Orleans. We are technically Saint Bernard Parish but we are super close to the French Quarter as well as the trendy Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods. We are right next to historic Jackson Barracks(established in the 1830's) so we have a lot of the same neat old architecture but without the crime. It is a beautiful short walk up to the levy and a great view of the river and the downtown area. Getting AroundIt is a two block walk to the bus stop. Cab fare to the heart of Frenchmen Street is $15.00 to $18.00. Add $1.00 for each person. "Old Arabi Eats" is a great 3 star restaurant with- in walking distance. The corner store next to the restaurant has a good selection of beer, wine, and spirits at good prices. One of the best "Muffelettas" in the city is at "Arabi Food Store", a must do for a true New Orleans experience, also in walking distance. "Studio Inferno" glass art is one block away. Walk up to the levy Fridays from 5p.m. until 7p.m. for free beer samples at the "40 Arpent Brewing Co." . Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery is just a mile or so down the road. That is where the "Battle of New Orleans " actually took place. They do a re-enactment every January around the 8th of the month. Other Things to NotePlease note that weekly and monthly rates do not apply during peak periods, Mardis Gras, French Quarter Festival, Jazz Fest etc.

The SpaceIMPORTANT- PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!! ++If you let us know you read this, by mentioning some of the important points in this listing -we will for sure accept your request. We want you to be informed so you stay at the best place suited for your personal preference! ++ ----------Some things to note before booking our place---------- The biggest concern most people have when booking the hideout is its location, so here is the low down: ----Our place is not within walking distance to the French Quarter! If you do not have a car-(We recommend a car for getting to and from the Hideout!) you should for sure add some cash into your budget for Uber or taxi rides to and from our neighborhood (about 12-15 bucks to the quarter). If you are an urban traveller, you can take the bus- takes about 30mins to get you to the french quarter. --------- We have our listing priced much cheaper than most places because: 1. We are not walking distance to the French Quarter. It's not that far (4 miles to the heart of the quarter- a 10 minute car ride). 2. You will be sharing a wall with us- no shared spaces- just a wall. BUT this is a shotgun double- we will likely hear each other a little! We keep it pretty chill and hope you do too :) ----Check in time is 3pm. ----Check out time is 11am. (We have people coming in as other are going- we need the time to clean etc.) ----There is only 1 bed in the apt. ----If you have no Airbnb reviews- please let us know a little bit about yourself in your initial request. A little off the beaten path- We are situated right in the corner of the Historic Holy Cross Neighborhood 2 blocks from the Mississippi River and a quick 10-15 minute drive to the French Quarter. The apartment is private, however, it is located inside our historic shotgun double. There is a shared wall- with a door leading into the main home which remains locked. The home is owned by my partner Claire and I. Please let us know a little about yourself if you are new to Airbnb and have no reviews yet! LGBT friendly. Although close to the Bywater and french quarter- you will still most likely need a car to get around! If you are looking to bike around try those other neighborhoods first as they will be a better fit for you, unless you are into savin' money and gettin' a deal more than having the french quarter in your pocket! Guest AccessYour guests are welcome to visit but there is not enough room for more than 2 people to stay overnight. Quiet hours after 10pm. If you need to throw some laundry in the wash, just ask and we will be happy to share our laundry room on our side of the house with you :) Interaction with GuestsWe love hanging out with guests if they want and also respect those who want a hands off experience. We have no problem helping guests out with local tips, like where to eat, see music, etc :) Check out our guestbook listed here on Airbnb- we have listed our favorite places and put a lot of thought into steering you in the right direction through the guestbook! So many awesome things to do!!!! We also respect that some folks want privacy while on vacation and are a phone call away at any time. The NeighborhoodI love that this neighborhood is building itself back even stronger than before. There are urban gardens coming up everywhere and the levee at the Intercoastal canal is the best seat in the house and the city's best kept secret. I'd be happy to point guests in that direction or even head down there with them. It can be a little rough at first sight, but its an awesome neighborhood with a lot of history. We love it - find it quiet, and beautiful- especially the sunsets on the levee. :) Getting AroundThe public transit system here is not great, although we have has some guests use the bus on St. Claude to get around with no problem. We do not really recommend this to the usual traveler and save this for the experienced urban traveler. The bus route is the 88. A car/car rental is the best mode of transportation. We also have Uber and Lyft here!! A ride costs about 12 bucks to get to the quarter. Although we recommend having a car below is a review from one of our guests who we adored... which says you don't need a car lol - "I definitely don't recommend having a car. Parking downtown is terrible. Save some extra cash for uber because you will waste a lot of time and money on renting a car. If you do have a car, leave it parked at the hide out and take the bus. I took the 88 bus everyday down Canal to the quarter. It's about a 20/25 minute bus ride and it's cheap as hell so I'd recommend that as for modes of transportation. Between uber and the bus, you won't need a car. Overall, I have nothing bad to say. The location is perfect, the hide out is comfortable and it's just a chill little getaway. I plan on going back to NOLA and when I do, you better believe I'm staying here again" -so there ya have it- two sides of the coin.. I guess it just depends on who you are and what you feel like getting in to. Other Things to NotePeople often ask us about safety- I usually say, this is New Orleans- you have to be aware of your surroundings. Although we are in the Lower 9th ward- we have never had any trouble- and find our neighborhood to be quieter than most even though it looks a little rough at first sight. We recommened just staying smart about it- be alert- don't walk around the French Quarter (or anywhere) intoxicated alone. Our street is awesome and our neighbors are mostly home owners and we all adore one another. We are tucked away in what we call the "corner pocket" of Holy Cross.. a quiet spot away from the bustle of the city. We enjoy our locationas it provides a get away from it all while still staying super close. New Orleans is truly a unique city with adventure around every corner. Stay open to awesome experiences, but always stay aware and alert!

It allows you access to all the activities and night life of New Orleans without the all-night noise and traffic. Getting AroundThere is a bus line at the end of my street that will take you directly past the French Quarter and to Canal St. where you can pick up the streetcar lines to take you further around the city. The SpaceLucky Horse Shoe Cottage is a stand alone cottage perfect for relaxing, writing your next book, or walking your dogs on the levee. The cottage is a mere ten minute drive (with traffic) to hip Bywater and fifteen minutes into the heart of the French Quarter. There is bus service straight into downtown, but having a car (or bikes) makes getting around New Orleans much easier: Uptown, Fairgrounds, Bayou St. John, the Garden District, plantations, swamps--there's so much to see and do! Guest AccessHoly Cross is the historic district in the Lower Ninth of New Orleans nestled next to the Mississippi River. Brad Pitt's "Make It Right" homes are in the Lower Ninth as are the historic Steamboat Houses and the home of Fats Domino and many other artists and musicians. Our neighborhood is strikingly beautiful (even with our post-Katrina scars still showing) and a quick drive to all that New Orleans has to offer. Interaction with GuestsWe are two retired teachers who live in the house right next to the Lucky Horse Shoe Cottage in case you need anything or just want to stop in. We know people go on vacation to get away so we're here if you need us and we'd love to meet you! We moved to Holy Cross in 2010 and love this truly unique part of New Orleans. We are animal lovers who started a non-profit called "Angels of Holy Cross" and have trapped, neutered, and released over 120 cats and rescued countless dogs in our neighborhood. The NeighborhoodHoly Cross is visually stunning and right on the Mississippi River. Our neighborhood is quiet, but so close to the Bywater (where you can have a great breakfast at "Elizabeth's"), French Quarter and CBD. Perfect. We love to go to Rocky & Carlo's for dinner (right down the road) and walk on the levee with our dogs to Arabi Food Store and Café for lunch. Getting AroundThe St. Claude bus will take you right downtown for 1.25 but a car or a motor scooter is best. Lots of people bike to work and fun from Holy Cross. Other Things to NoteHoly Cross is the historic district of the Lower Ninth Ward and pre-Katrina had the highest rate of home ownership in the city. It is very residential, safe, and incredibly beautiful even with its post-Katrina scars still being mended. We bought our home here in 2010 when there were only a few neighbors here and have never felt unsafe (two women!) but we do have security cameras on Lucky Horse Show Cottage and the cottage has an ADT alarm system to give you peace of mind. Also, we're right next door for anything you need.

A 10 minute walk down my historic street to the Mississippi River is a nice spot where many watch the Creole Queen pass on the river or jog along the levee. There are plenty of interesting things to check out that are walkable that include art galleries, antique shops, bars, and even a brewery. All only a 10 minute walk from the house! The SpaceWe have been renovating this lovely old house in Holy Cross for the last four years. The space is open and dramatic, it feels like a treehouse or fort. Work continues, but it already has most of the conveniences of home. This listing is for the more private of two bedrooms. The door can be shut to make the room private, the occupants of this room walk through the first guest room to reach their room. See the photos to get a layout. This is typical of New Orleans architecture! Guest AccessGuests have access to the common areas of the house, the kitchen, 2 living rooms, 3 porches, 2 bathrooms, outdoor shower. Interaction with GuestsThe house is occupied by community-minded folks. We clean the house together, communicate well, and are generally awesome. Most of us have day jobs but there is usually someone at the house during the day and always at night. The host can advise about places to go in the nearby Bywater and the rest of the city. We often ride bikes - about 10-15 minutes, or there is a bus that stops a few blocks away. The NeighborhoodHoly Cross is a great neighborhood - just a few steps to a big park-like levee on the river where folks from all backgrounds go for walks. We know our neighbors and have a feel of being at home here. Getting AroundBikes are great, and we have several to rent to you for $10 a day. This price allows us to get the bikes fixed when they break and keep them in good running order. There is also a bus that stops 5 blocks away. Other Things to NoteDuring the day there is often some noise/work between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6 PM. The house is cleaned up daily after work to reduce dust and mess. The work is done primarily by folks that live in the house, so it's not like a lot of strangers are showing up and making a ton of noise/mess/distraction. It's something to know though, that the house is being worked on daily. It also gets better daily.
