We are near Sanctuary Mountain - Mt. Maungatautari, the site of the largest restoration project in New Zealand. Reintroductions of rare and endangered New Zealand wildlife to this mountain, protected by a pest-proof fence, are Takahe, Hihi, Kiwi and Kaka. Many of our guests visit either the northern or southern enclosure - some have enjoyed the 5 hour crossing of Maungatautari mountain. ((email hidden))
Lake Karapiro, a great place for rowing, water skiing and boating. The 2010 World Rowing Championships were held here and over the summer months there are many exciting events on the lake.
Hobbiton - movie set
Hobbiton - movie set for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and where the Hobbit was filmed is just 15 minutes away. The set has been completely rebuilt and there are tours as well as The Shires Rest Cafe. ((website hidden)).
Waikato River Trails
The Waikato River Trails is creating access for walking, biking and tramping along New Zealand's longest river - the mighty Waikato. The trails cover about 100km of previously inaccessible Southern Waikato land. They wind their way along a path that encompasses the magic and beauty of New Zealand native bush, exotic forest, historic landmarks, interesting rock formations and geological delights. Te Waihou Spring and Walkway
The picturesque and totally spring fed Te Waihou River is beautiful and only 20 minutes away. The crystal clear water flows through green pastures and surges through two sections of a rugged gorge.
