The SpaceWelcome to my little *Bear Lodge*, it sits in a natures paradise on the San Juan River! The biggest river in the 4-corner area! All the pictures you see here are "on the property".
This is an Icelandic Horse ranch for breeding, raising, training & riding Icelandic Horses. It is located just a few miles above Navajo Reservoir State Park, and has a private road access to the New Mexico Carson National Forest, that provides miles and miles for recreation in Wilderness. If you are a nature lover and do not need the city life, this will be a place that lets you feel connected to our mother earth. Lots of wildlife is calling this place home as well. Bring your camera and/or go hiking, biking or fly-fishing on the property. You need a Colorado fishing license in order to fish which you can get online, approximately $30. Enjoy the river with your canoe or just put your toes in the cool water and relax or read a book. You can go hiking in our riding valley that is N of the county road and the premises, go mountain biking in the Carson Nat. Forest that is Wilderness and we have a private access, or take your boat and enjoy the Navajo Lake that is only minutes away, lots of things to do. Hiking along the lake is great too, I love to go horseback riding there. Chimney Rock Monument 1/2 hour, Hot Springs in Pagosa 1 hour, a bit more then 1 hour to Durango, from there you can book a ride with the old restored train to the historical silver-mining town Silverton, or take a daily trip to the Mesa Verde and get to know the old ruins of the ancient people. So don't forget sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, a rain jacket, good walking shoes and mud boots in case the weather will change! But most days are sunny here and it is dry outside. There is no pavement here, just nature and the wildlife. Be prepared for this environment and you can enjoy the days spending at the ranch. If you wish that I can introduce my dog and my 14 horses to you, they are my best friends! Guest AccessThe guest room is in the loft of the barn, has a king size bed and just a tiny kitchen with a little fridge and 2 hot plates, it is next to the farmhouse, where I serve you breakfast. You will have your own bathroom with a shower in the barn. You are welcome in the farmhouse during daily hours, but at night time I prefer my privacy. The loft in the house, the upper floor in the farm house is MY PRIVACY! You can come over to the basic floor of the house in the morning when you are hungry, and I will cook breakfast for you. After your reservation we can get in touch to discuss breakfast hours. If you like dinner served, you will have to tell me a day ahead and it will be an additional cost. Or you can put something on the grill on the covered porch from the house. Outside there are 112 acres for your playground, which includes both sides of the river for 1/4 mile. I will not bother you, but I am here most of the time, so if you have questions or if you like to talk I am available. I will cook breakfast for you with fresh farm eggs from my chicken, and I bake a fresh bread every day. If you would like to bring your dog you have to ask me when doing the reservation and it will be at a additional cost. I may allow it or may not depending on circumstances. If I do, your dog will have to be on a leash on the property. It will be your responsibility to take well care and not bring him/her into the farm house, there is a dog-run outside. No free running dogs on property without permission.. My horses chase dogs, this is why I actually do not like to allow it, so I will not be responsible if your dog gets hurt. Interaction with GuestsI live and work here at the ranch, and therefore I am most of the time available to help if there is a need. If you are a horse fanatic like me, we can arrange riding for you that will be at an additional cost. The NeighborhoodIt is very private here, Ute Indian Reservation north and west of the ranch, two big farms and National Forest in the south, some nice neighbors east, but also bigger ranches. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation available Other Things to NotePlease sign a waiver & release form at your arrival at the ranch, this because of staying on premises of a horse ranch.
