The NeighborhoodArch Cape is a wonderful enclave of private homes with one of the most stunning beaches on the North Oregon coast; with headlands dropping to the sea both north and south, view Castle Rock and a "mini" Haystack rock. The beaches are never crowded and manageable strolls to the north leads to Hug Point (and the remarkable beach "caves" made famous in the movie "Goonies") and then Arcadia Beach, to the south are stunning outcroppings and the "Arch" leading into the majestic beaches of Falcon Cove. Keep your eyes open for agates. There are no hotel or condo developments with the ensuing crowds. In addition to having a waterfall and stream, Malarkey's Roost is at the end of street with a closed bridge with no through traffic for safety and privacy. Cannon Beach is just 4 miles and a few minutes away. Close enough to enjoy yet just far away enough to savor Arch Cape's unique serenity. The town of Cannon Beach, shops, galleries, restaurants etc can be particularly crowded in peak season. Arch Cape is four miles south (ten minute drive) of Cannon Beach so you will see people but it will be far from crowded. Just 75 minutes from Portland, Cannon Beach has a mellow vibe amidst the many galleries, shops and dining opportunities. The craft beer culture which began in the Pacific Northwest is alive and well in Cannon Beach. Summer 2016 will see the addition of two new brewpubs, Pelican Brewing and Public Coast Brewing Company which will join the much revered Bill's Tavern in serving handcrafted lagers and ales. Malarkey's Roost provides growlers to bring your favorite brew home with you. The Arch Cape beaches are some of the most spectacular on the North Oregon coast with headlands and offshore rock formations. The towns of Manzanita, Wheeler and Nehalem are a few miles south of Arch Cape and each, though smaller than Cannon Beach, will be less crowded and each has its own ambiance and charm. The SanDune Tavern in Manzanita is a great over 21 live music venue which frequently features Portland bands weekend nights. The Big Wave Cafe on Highway 101 in Manzanita may be the best breakfast place on the North Coast. The Tillamook Cheese Factory is great family day trip about 45 minutes away to see cheese making and sample many cheeses as well delicious ice cream. There is a wonderful day hike up Mt. Neahkanhie (1.2 miles, moderate trails and suitable for those 5 to 75). Hikers can take a bit longer hike down on The Pacific Coast Trail which leads to Short Sand Beach in the Oswald West State Park. Short Sand Beach and the short hike from Hwy 101 is a real surfer's delight. Seaside is about 11 miles from Arch Cape has an arcade, aquarium and boardwalk and is reminiscent of ocean beaches on the eastern seaboard. Ecola State Park has spectacular ocean vistas and is one the most photographed views in the US. There are trail heads for coastal hikes as well. Fans of the Goonies, will quickly see the locales where several scenes were filmed in this kid's classic. Astoria is about 25 miles north of Cannon Beach and has a number of attractions; it is situated where the Columbia River meets the Pacific. It is a very historic seaport town (the oldest settlement west of the Mississippi founded in 1811 as fur trading outpost of the New York Astor family) with a largest number of restored 19th century Victorian homes as well as a wonderful Sunday market downtown that stretches blocks, great restaurants serving the freshest seafood you will ever eat. Astoria is also home to the Columbia River Maritime Museum which is a wonderfully curated home to history of the region. On the way to Astoria is the Lewis and Clark National site which has replica of the camp where the expedition stayed the winter of 1804-5. Nearby is Fort Stevens, a former military coastal fortification which the kids love. The skeleton wreck of the clipper ship Peter Iredale (1906) is at Fort Stevens as well. Fort Stevens was the only point on the mainland that was attacked during WWII. A Japanese submarine left a few calling cards shelling the fortification. The nice thing about the Arch Cape home is you can do as much or as little as you choose. Lots of space for the kids to play! Getting AroundThe home has a long driveway which can accommodate up to three cars in tandem per our Arch Cape Short Term Lodging license. Some street parking is available. Do not park in front Arch Cape Water District Pump station in northwest corner of the yard adjacent to the closed bridge. You will see cyclists on Highway 101 but be forewarned that there are narrow shoulders, blind turns and traffic, which can include log trucks and semis travelling at high rate 55-65+ mph on a predominantly two lane highway. Public transportation is limited to a few stops a day. Other Things to NoteThe community of Arch Cape and State of Oregon charge 10.5% tax that will added to all rentals. The 1% Oregon Room Tax is added to your Airbnb fees. Since AirBnB does not collect the 9.5% Arch Cape local room tax for this locale, direct payment to the owner is necessary. I find it simpler to provide an all-inclusive "special offer" via AirBnB.

The SpaceAll through the residence there are large expanses of window that look out on the forest and creek, and skylights through which you can see the moon and stars at night. The main bedroom is on the ground floor. The twenty-foot vaulted ceiling has a skylight over the bed and two walls of windows looking out over Soapstone Creek and the forest. It is separated from the main structure by a covered breezeway. The main bedroom has 2 beds - one queen and one full. The main building has a kitchen and dining area, a living room with wood stove, bathroom with shower, and a washer/dryer. One entire section of the roof is a "sun roof" which makes the cabin light no matter the weather. A sleeping loft (2nd bedroom) with a built-in double bed facing the sun roof is the second level of the main building, with its own private upper deck. A staircase provides access to the sleeping loft. "The cube” is the third level, perched forty-feet above the main floor, and aligned exactly north, south, east west. It has a built-in desk and large round windows on all four sides looking down on the creek, forest, and meadow. A short built-in wooden ladder from the loft provides access. There is also a double futon in the main living area as well as a twin "Captain's bed". There is also a smaller 2nd bathroom located in the breezeway. Guests have complete access to the entire 22 acres, which include walking trails, the beautiful river with a trail right to the edge, a fire pit on the deck, and the famous "writer's cube" on top of the house. The house is in the "sun belt" in the coastal range and only 12 miles from the beach, so trips to the Oregon Coast are easy to coordinate! It is an hour and 20 minutes from downtown Portland. PETS: Dogs (50lbs and under) are allowed if guests are careful to pick up after them and don't allow them on the beds. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU BOOK IF YOU HAVE A PET! There is a $40 total fee for the first pet - no matter how long you stay, so not a per night fee :-). If you have 2 pets it's $60 total for the length of your stay. This will be put in the "special offer" place. If you have a pet you think will be fine and is larger just ask. Thank you! This is a private retreat so you will have complete privacy while there. For summertime I will give preference to week-long rentals. For weekends 3 nights will be given preference. Thank you! One week and longer rentals for summer is given first preference. 3-night minimum is given first preference for other times of the year. If you have a baby, no need to count her/him in your # of guests (though please let me know who will be staying when you book :-)). Otherwise please account for total # of guests when you book as well as mention any pets. Please do not inquire for super large groups (such as weddings). There is not enough parking and such for that kind of use at Soapstone. Thank you! I am trying to find the part (it's obscure) and hopefully it will be up and running again in a few weeks but it does work as a nice big bathtub :-). So look at it as a bonus bath at the moment. Thanks for understanding! Other Things to NotePlease note that prices fluctuate depending on time of year.

This delightful Arch Cape house is just one block away from the beach, is dog-friendly, and has all the comforts of home! Experience the ultra-relaxing atmosphere of a very small coastal town and let the ocean waves wash your troubles away. Arch Cape has few businesses of any kind, which only adds to its relaxing, quiet nature. However, Cannon Beach is about five miles north, so a quick trip into the much busier town for groceries, a nice restaurant meal, or shopping is always an option. However, with the beach only one block away, you may choose to avoid the crowds of a city in favor of splitting your time between the sandy shores and this inviting home. The upper level of this home has a large space where you will find a nice living room, dining area, and a lovely full kitchen. With a library of books, WiFi, cable TV, a DVD player, and board games available, you and your guests will have many entertainment options, though you may choose to simply enjoy a nice conversation in front of the wood-burning fireplace. A full kitchen provides all the tools and appliances you will need to cook for everyone, whether you feel like a simple meal of pancakes, or a more impressive undertaking of a full brunch. Outside, there's a gas grill. The lower level of this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home contains a second living room and all the bedrooms: one with two twin beds, and the other two each with a comfortable queen-size bed. This home easily accommodates six guests, and you are even welcome to bring up to two dogs (though a nightly fee per dog and a minimum fee per stay will apply) to enjoy a run on the beach with you! Outside you will find an alluring deck - go ahead and sit and breathe in the fresh ocean air. This home would be absolutely perfect for a nice, relaxing vacation to a remote stretch of beach. Stay close to Arch Cape and enjoy the company of your guests, or drive either north or south along Highway 101 to reach larger coastal cities with many more delightful entertainment options. Bring the whole family to enjoy a restive stay at this charming home with easy beach access, and experience true relaxation in small-but-wonderful Arch Cape! Additional amenities include: cable / satellite TV, washer / dryer. This delightful Arch Cape house is just one block away from the beach, is dog-friendly, and has all the comforts of home!
