The SpaceWe live in Itaipava, an hour and a half away from Rio de Janeiro. The house is surrounded by mountains and we also runs La Mesa Gastro Lar (/lamesagastrolar): the couple opens the space for people who want to live culinary experiences outside of traditional restaurants. The format, also called ' close door' or 'antirestaurante,' proposes another time and way of relating to food, understanding where the ingredients come from and how are they processed, following the slowfood movement.
Javy is chef de cuisine and spent ten years cooking around the world. He was born in Balcarce, interior of Argentina, and graduated in gastronomy in Mar del Plata in 2005. He lived in Costa Rica, Paraguay, Peru and England, working different kinds of kitches such us hotels, restaurants, buffets and was also as a teacher in a culinary institute.
In 2010 he had a TV show in Argentina called "Cocina en Movimiento". Javy continued breaking the world cooking in Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Panama, and now in Brazil sinse 2012. Here, he came out of the run of professional kitchens and found his own model wich gives him a possible plataform for conscious and emotional food, inside his home.
Cissa is a writer, published two books of poetry and is currently living the creative process of a new project. She also writes about food for newspapers and magazines and she is the concepteur of the webseries Soul Kitchens Project (/soulkitchensproject)
Together, they take care of the home garden and Zig and Fernet (dog and cat), the love listen vinyls, drink wine and also we are Caetano's parents. Nano is a newborn baby, and as all of them, sometimes he cries at night.
The proposal here is to offer lodging in a quiet place with amazing view and surrunded by nature - but not only that. Inspired by friends who have already made the house a place of creation and new practices, they want to deploy the proposed of La Mesa, offering hosting extra activities:
_visits to organic fairs, little farms.
_local products tasting ( like handmade beer, breads, jams, etc.)

1. La Mesa Menu: Every month we share a menu suggestion created from research, local produts and products that we selected travel. This menu includes 4 steps: welcome, start, main and dessert and their preparation can be seen closely - our kitchen is open. This is our essence, our idea is stimulating exchanges between kitchen and table, encourage the celebration of life around the good food, no hurry. Booking this menu must be made in advance, it is open to the public and is also available for guests, who have 15% discount. Ask us about the menu and value.
2. Chef's dish: If you want to include meals during your stay, just tell us about your preferences, Javy will show which local and seasonal products and present you some dishes idea (for lunch and / or dinner).

Itaipava is embraced by the Serra dos Órgãos mountains, where can practice mountaineering and other sports for those who also want adventure. The waterfalls circuit is beautiful, super recommended. In Petropolis, 30 minutes from home, there are many sights, restaurants and bars. Teresopolis is also a nearby town with various attractions.

The access to the kitchen is not allowed because we are a "cook house" and we have a workflow in this space. It's possible that some hosting matches with cooking classes already scheduled on La Mesa reserves. Guests cant use the refrigerator or consume drink and food from outside at our space.
