The SpaceThe Sunset House at Les Deux Mondes is a fully restored and modernized traditional 19th century Cajun Creole farm cottage, which was moved from 20 miles away to her current location and is now overlooking the lovely Bayou Teche. The restoration and updating respected her roots, yet has modern amenities. A gorgeous kitchen counter milled from a giant red oak log that was diverted from the landfill, as well as original artwork from local artists, give this house a comfortable and warm feeling. The house also features a fully equipped kitchen (new electric stove, new fridge, new blender, new microwave oven, new toaster oven, programable coffee maker, wok, etc...) ceiling fans, and a central "mini-split" unit, which provides quiet air conditioning and heating throughout the house. In the bathroom, you will also find a washing machine, an iron with an ironing board, and a hair dryer. You can relax on the porch which overlooks some edible landscaping and the beautiful Bayou Teche. This truely lovely home speaks across generations. Available locally: - Local art work, events, dance, music, potlucks, French tables, quilting, ... around the corner at the NUNU Collective - Private cooking lessons in your full kitchen available from local chefs - Private tours available to get a jump start on the local sites, scenes and culture. Child care available One kayak (for one person) is available on the premises and additional kayaks can be rented locally. The SpaceThe Shiny Tiny is a stationary tiny house on wheels, which was constructed through a 6 week workshop where students learned hands on how to build a tiny house by tiny house expert Art Cormier and architect Francine Primeaux-Kennedy. Sustainable practices were incorporated through-out the construction including wood diverted from the local landfill. A gorgeous hand carved front door by local artist Larry Bourque welcomes each guest to a contemporary light filled cleverly appointed space with painted birch paneling, ample functioning windows and re-purposed pine floors through-out. The living area includes a futon, two chairs and rotating original artwork. The bathroom boasts long grain cedar paneling, a full sized shower. The Shiny Tiny also features a kitchen equipped with a two burner propane stove, refrigerator, coffee press, toaster and microwave oven and a beautiful stainless steel counter-top. You can relax on the porch which overlooks a semi-private lawn with oak trees. Available locally: - Local art work, events, dance, music, potlucks, French tables, quilting, ... around the corner at the NUNU Collective - Private tours available to get a jump start on the local sites, scenes and culture. - Local kayak rentals available The Shiny Tiny was donated to NUNU following a tiny house build which included 12 students, a 501 (c) (3) organization by Winifred and Kevin Reilly. Jule Energy donated solar panels and battery. Electrical materials donated by Teche Electric. Construction and design labor was donated by Art Cormier, Francine Primeaux-Kennedy, Lawrence Guidroz, Larry Bourque and more. Guest AccessGuests have full access to the entire tiny house including several drawers and a small pull out closet. Guests also have access to a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board in a separate wash house on site. There is also a clothes line beneath a covered area. Interaction with GuestsThe Shiny Tiny is owned by the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective and is open 11am-4pm, Thursday-Sunday for shopping and information. You can also visit (URL HIDDEN) to learn more about regional activities. Private French and/or English speaking tour guides are available for an additional fee. The NeighborhoodArnaudville is located at the Junction of Bayous Teche and Fuselier and is perfect for guests that want to be centrally located with easy access to neighboring towns and villages while in a small town setting. Getting AroundA car is recommended but you can cycle or walk to area establishments. Other Things to NoteStaying in the Shiny Tiny is not your typical stay for most. The space is intentionally small so packing light is a smart thing to do. You will learn how to use a composting toilet and although the shower is full sized, water use is lessened due to a heat on demand water heater. In the kitchen you will find a small fridge and propane stove. Soap products are provided but are limited to those that are friendly to the environment.
