This is our private estate, not a resort, so it is quiet and peaceful, ideal for a couple who enjoy reading, writing (the owner is an author), and the out-of-doors. The boat launch is one mile away, and Pelican Lake has excellent fishing for walleye and bass. There is no dock on the property, but we have plenty of area for you to park your boat. The shallow swimming area is soft sand at the end of our property. Bring your guitar or banjo and serenade the night fisherman trolling for walleyes. Guest AccessWe have 310 feet of waterfront for beautiful views. Located at the end of our property is a public park with a small river, the outlet of the lake, where pelicans, great blue herons, egrets, and cormorants wade and fish. It's a great place for bird watching as we are on the central flyway for migrating birds. Wild turkeys wander past nearly every day and bald eagles are frequently seen fishing out front. Only one mile away in Ashby, a full service town, is the access to the paved Central Lakes Biking/Hiking Trail that covers 55 miles from Fergus Falls to Osakis with stops along the way at other small towns. Cruise past numerous lakes, prairies, and hills for a photographic adventure.
Nearly every weekend a local town will have a festival of some kind. For those who like to fish but have no boat, there is a public fishing dock on Frog Lake where we catch northern pike.
For golfers, there are several inexpensive golf courses within a twenty mile radius plus museums, hill hiking, and antique shopping. Interaction with GuestsThe cabin is provided with a history of the area as well as brochures and directions to various activities. Although we offer no amenities other than a fully equipped cottage (no oven), guests have full access to all property including the fire pit, barbeque, and swimming area. The NeighborhoodThis is mostly a residential area of retired professionals, friendly folk who enjoy nature, fishing, and hiking. The senior center in Ashby has a pool table (for a fee),a small thrift store, and Whist is played there every Friday afternoon. The American Legion is open to the public and offers food, drink, and bingo. In addition, there are two restaurants in town featuring home cooked meals. Nearby towns offer pub food, some have gourmet restaurants, and wineries. You won't be bored. Getting AroundYou need a car. There is no bus service. Other Things to NoteIt is quiet and peaceful under the towering oaks and easily accessible. There are no stop lights in all of Grant County! From I-94 take Exit 77.
