Getting AroundTo really enjoy all that our area offers, a car is pretty necessary. However, hiking trails are adjacent to the house and biking can take you into other areas fairly close by to explore. We are on the B&B bike trail and also the Connecticut Historic Barn Trail. With advance notice and a few dollars, we might be able to pick you up from the bus, train station, or airport. Buses run from nearby Storrs to Hartford and from Hartford buses and trains are available to take you anywhere you desire. Other Things to NoteWe are just beginning to farm our property and have recently planted over 125 blueberry bushes, 100 strawberry plants, 4 fruit trees, and multiple herbs. We plant a big organic garden every year and will be adding more fruits and veggies this next year. We have chickens from which we gather the eggs for your breakfast. We raise a couple of pigs seasonally. Bacon, sausage, and ham that come from them are delicious! You are welcome to help out if you care to but get our permission before starting.

The SpaceThe house, originally a cabin, was converted into a two bedroom year-round home in the 1980s. You walk into the main floor that features a full-sized kitchen, a full bath, and lovely open dining room and living room that walks out onto a gorgeous deck. The living room also has a Hearthstone wood stove available for use in the colder months (November-March). There is a sleeper sofa in this area that sleeps 2. A spiral staircase takes you up to the loft room, which has a full-sized bed and skylights. Heading down the spiral stairs you will find another bedroom with a queen sized bed with an attached full bathroom, and a third bedroom with a twin bed and room for one twin air mattress, that is provided. The downstairs master bedroom has a queen sized bed, gym quality treadmill, a walk in closet and sliding doors that access the lower deck and yard. Take the stone path down to the dock to Ashford Lake, a small and peaceful private lake. We have two kayaks available for guest use, a hammock, a fire pit and some outdoor seating. A clothes washer and dryer are located in the kitchen pantry area. There is free parking for two vehicles adjacent to the house. Guest AccessTake the stone path down to the dock and find a hammock, a fire pit, and two kayaks, all for your private use. You will also have access to the private beach minutes down the road. There is free wifi in the house, as well as Amazon FireTV(Netflix, AmazonPrime), DVD player, and a small selection of movies and board games. There is a CD player and AM/FM stereo combo. Interaction with GuestsWe try and meet all guests at check-in, and give tips about the house. If for some reason we can’t make it over, we live close by, and if you need anything during your stay we are a short drive away. The NeighborhoodThe house is situated in a quiet residential community in Connecticut's Quiet Corner. Come stay for your next antiquing trip to Putnam, or visit to UConn, or trip to the Woodstock or Brooklyn Fairs. Take in a show at Putnam's Bradley Play House or UConn's Jorgensen Center. The lake community is home to families that live there year round, as well as some who keep seasonal homes. The speed limit on the roads surrounding the house is 15 miles per hour and is strictly observed. The community has covenants/ rules we will familiarize you with before your stay. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation locally. A car rental would be recommended for the duration of your stay. There are beautiful hiking trails in the woods nearby, and quiet dirt roads for mountain biking. Other Things to NoteThe Ashford Lake House is for sale! Find it on (URL HIDDEN) or come to an open house on September 4th from 9-5! If you are traveling with children, contact me and I will send you a special offer. We charge extra per night for more than 4 adults, but if you are a group of 6 with 2 or more children it will not be any additional money per night. Baby gates, pack n plays, and high chair are available at no charge with prior notice. Find and like us on Fbook to follow lake house news! The area is flush with wildlife- birds, woodpeckers, bunnies, deer, turtles- we also have an outdoor cat that you will see roaming about on the property, or out on the deck. The lake is quite a different place in the winter compared to other seasons. The lake itself freezes, and the only activity on it is the occasional ice fisher and perhaps some skaters. Our rule of thumb is that we don’t go out on the ice unless others are already out. We advise people to use extreme caution on and around the lake at all times and do not take responsibility for our guests use of the lake or any accidents associated with use of the lake or our equipment.

The house was built in the early 1700's and consists of traditional cape and colonial center chimney post and beam construction. Though tastefully renovated over the centuries, many of the historical aspects have been retained, such as the 5 fireplaces, 9 over 6 windows, bee-hive oven, and wide-board pine and chestnut floors. Two light-filled bedrooms that share a bathroom and one suite with its own bath, balcony, and separate entrance welcome our guests with all the modern comforts you have come to expect. Included at no extra cost a full gourmet breakfast, engaging stories about the house (mysterious Henrietta, Underground Railway, ghosts), and a lovely hike on the adjacent Byles Sanctuary Trail. As we also are a small farm, our organically raised vegetables, fruits, and eggs will make up your hearty breakfast and you can visit our chickens, goats, and gardens during their seasons.

The Little House at Jericho is an early American farmhouse located on the Abington side of Pomfret, Connecticut, in a secluded storybook location on 145 acres of preserved land adjacent to the Airline Trail, the Wolf Den State Forest, Mashomoquet State Park and the New England Forestry Foundation's Chase Kimball Memorial Forest. The site is ideal for bird-watching from the deck over-looking the pond or at the Audubon Society's Grasslands preserved sanctuary nearby, for long walks in the woods, cross-country skiing, fishing, or just for a place to get away from it all. Use of the tennis court is allowed, but hunting is strictly prohibited, as is use of any off-road vehicles. It is ideal for an artist or author's retreat. The Little House has been lovingly preserved by eight generations of the same family who have lived at Jericho since 1814. This antique house has one large downstairs and two small upstairs bedrooms, a spacious living/dining room with a huge granite fireplace, and can sleep up to four people comfortably. Furnished with period country antiques, guests feel transported into the 18th century, until they slide back a door to find a modern kitchen with a view over an orchard and pond from a large deck, and a newly updated bathroom. It is not suitable for the disabled or for extremely large (obese) people, because it is a pre-1800 house with period furnishings. Jericho is situated close to Hyde, Pomfret and Rectory Schools, as well as the numerous scenic drives, destination restaurants, antique stores and boutiques in Windham County. This historic little house is nestled in the forest, far from the stress of daily life, but only a short drive from Old Sturbridge Village and Mystic Seaport. It is also less than an hour's drive from Hartford, Providence and Worcester and only a 20 minute drive from the University of Connecticut at Storrs. Boston is 90 miles Northeast and New York City 150 miles Southwest. Keywords: cottage, little house, historic farmhouse, antique house, secluded getaway
