At the End of the Road Eco-village and Camp we are developing a multi-faceted project that involves ecotourism, environmental education, recreation, intentional community, indigenous culture, sustainability, and the establishment of a 1200 kilometer trail which begins at our property and heads east through 5 different reservations and 19 protected natural monuments, wilderness areas and national parks before reaching Venezuela Route 10, 700 KM to the east. We are fully prepared for travelers who wish to acclimatize, learn survival skills, study the natural history, learn about medicinal plants, perform internships, or those who just want to visit us and our neighbors for a few days. We currently have a single 4 bedroom wooden comfort cabin with an open atrium area available for visitors. A separate kitchen and separate bathrooms are within 25 yards of the main cabin. Each room contains a bunk bed and hammock hooks, and we also offer outdoor porch hammocks as well if you prefer fresh air and moonlight, 4 person tents are available too if you prefer. If you want a private room though you must confirm it with us in advance to ensure availability. Besides bed & breakfast, we offer nature hikes, downriver canoe trips, local overnight treks, mineral mud baths, temazcal, botanical trails, and much more. We also offer the opportunity to explore indigenous culture, shamans and native guides to learn about the ecology of the Guiana Highlands and Amazon. On Saturdays most people ride to the market using public transportation where indigenous people (17 tribes) come to trade and sell agricultural and collected produce. Ants, termites, tarantulas, fish, medicinal plants, and many rare wild foraged fruits. Our village is based on the development of an ecologically sustainable self-sufficiency community. Our location is where 2 major biomes merge the Guiana Highland Forests and the Amazon Rainforest. It is one of the most unique areas on the planet. We host both long term and short term visitors. Long term visitors have to collaborate in daily chores. We decided to call our site the End of the Road because in front of our property the asphalt road ends and a gravel road begins and because the road that continues for 9 more kilometers before it ends at a fluvial route and dock on the upper Catañiapo River which is on indigenous reservation property that is protected by the state and international treaties with the United Nations governing indigenous rights. Our property is the last place you can drive to without a guide or special permission from the chief of the indigenous village you plan to visit or cross. Their traditional reservations and the wilderness begin at our eastern and southern property lines. As of May 15th, we now have Internet access, outbound cellular telephone service, and electricity. International visitors can also now make their travel arrangements through our own network to travel here from Maiquetia Airport and Caracas with full hostel type accommodations, money exchange, local guides, and even accompanied bus service all the way to our property at low cost.
