The room opens onto a decking balcony complete with table, chairs and a bench. A small grassed garden area and patio with stone flags includes table, chairs and BBQ. Both bedrooms have double built-in wardrobes and non-feather duvets and pillows. The NeighborhoodWe are in the countryside surrounded by hills, fields, and plenty of wildlife. The area is well known for red squirrels so if your lucky you may well see them. Ideal of bird spotting in the garden and surrounding area. Getting AroundThere is public transport, however your own means of transport is better as we are located in the countryside. Travel cot and highchair available on request Allanton-Mill cottage is set in a rural countryside location between Dumfries (8 miles) and Thornhill (6 miles) in south west Scotland. This is within easy commuting to Edinburgh or its famous military tattoo and fringe festivals or Glasgow for its heritage and shopping. Robert Burns, Scotland's famous poet lived and farmed at the nearby Ellisland Farm (1 miles), and is where he wrote Auld Lang Syne (sang at each New Year party around the world) & Tam O’Shanter. The Solway coastal area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor pursuits including golf, mountain biking (7 stanes are all close by, with Ae being only 6 miles from the cottage), hill walking, horse riding wild life spotting, as well as glorious beaches and a host of visitor attractions. Art lovers should head to the world renowned collection at Drumlanrig Castle (6 miles away) or visit during the local Spring festival when all the local artists and sculptors open their doors and display their work. A trip to Threave Castle, on its island in the River Dee, is a must for garden lovers. At Dumfries visitors will find a good selection of shops, an indoor swimming pool and sports centre, whilst Castle Douglas boasts a great choice of local produce and specialty food shops

There is a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living room with French doors which open onto the patio with picnic table, allowing you to choose to eat inside or out.                 The SpaceSmithy Cottage is a typical slate-roofed semi-detached lowland cottage. The house sleeps 4 adults comfortably, tho can accommodate up to 7 guests (with a small extra charge per additional guest over 4, to cover laundry etc). There are 2 double bedrooms, one with an additional single bed and there is a pull out double sofa bed in the living area. There is an open plan living space, with a double soda bed, 2 easy chairs and a turntable/CD/radio and a DVD player. We have a feature Rayburn in the kitchen and built in dining area. There is an electric cooker and separate combined conventional oven/microwave. There is an additional private reading area in the hall, with a comfy chair and reading lamp. The bathroom is a generous size. It has recently been renovated and now has a bath and shower. There is hot water in the morning and evening and you can boost the hot water in advance at other times if you want a bath. The shower heats water on demand. The cottage has a generously sized private garden with two areas for sitting and eating outside, weather permitting! Guest AccessSmithy Cottage is my home, and so comes complete with books to browse, board games to play and a selection of old albums to put on the turntable. There is no TV, but WiFi is available on request. You're welcome to play any DVDs too - there is a DVD player in the living area. The complete cottage is available for holiday rental for a minimum of two nights. Linen and towels are provided for up to 4 guests, with an extra charge per additional guest. Interaction with GuestsI or a member of my family will be available during your stay to provide any help you may need. The NeighborhoodSmithy Cottage is in a lovely rural spot, surrounded by woodland and fields, with pretty local walks to be had in the peace and quiet. Further afield there are artist workshops to visit, castles to explore as well as long hill walks. This is a wonderful place to relax, and on clear nights you can track the Milky Way and try and name the constellations! A quiet little retreat, with plenty to do on the doorstep. Getting AroundHaving a car is more or less essential for making the most of the local area. There is a regular local bus service tho, which you can check out on Dumfries and Galloway council's website. Other Things to NoteSome guests last summer experienced issues with the oven. This cooker has now been replaced with a brand new one and there is also now a new combination conventional oven & microwave. The bathroom has been newly decorated, and there are now new French doors out to the back garden and outside seating/dining area.

                  Boatrig Farmhouse is a spacious self catering property situated in an elevated and peaceful rural location with stunning views over the surrounding countryside in Dumfries & Galloway. Boatrig is located approximately 8 miles from Dumfries and provides an ideal holiday base in which to explore the surrounding area. The main local attractions include the Seven Stanes mountain bike trail centre network including Mabie, Ae, and Dalbeattie Forests along with the mountain biking trails at Drumlanrig. Other local attractions are Drumlanrig Castle, the home of the Duke and Buccleuch and Queensberry, with beautiful gardens and a country park; Caerlaverock Castle; Mabie Farm Park; Galloway Activity Centre; Dalscone Farm; Cream of Galloway and Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre. The surrounding countryside also offers lots of options for the keen walker with the wonderful scenery and rolling hills. There are well marked trails in the woods at Drumlanrig Castle and Mabie/Ae Forests or for those wishing more of a challenge, Criffel, the region’s largest hill is located at New Abbey and stands at 570m high. The nearby village of Thornhill offers shops, hotels and an 18 hole golf course. The town of Dumfries hosts many supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and shopping opportunities. There are also a number of other local golf courses including Dumfries & County, Dumfries & Galloway, Powfoot and Southerness Golf Clubs. Boatrig is ideally situated for exploring the Solway Coast which boasts many towns and villages offering art and crafts, antique shops, museums and quaint cafes, as well as beautiful sandy and rocky beaches to explore. Boatrig Farmhouse can sleep 10 with 5 bedrooms (two en-suite), kitchen, dining room, living room, conservatory, utility room, WC and family bathroom. The house also benefits from central heating, an open log fire, free wifi, BBQ facilities, car parking and bike storage. Dogs are also welcome (max 2).                   Scaurbrae Cottage is a delightful 200 year old stone cottage attached to the resident owners country house. The cottage is equipped to a high standard and situated in the beautiful Cairn Valley. All the rooms have views of the lovely garden and open countryside. The garden is a haven for red squirrels, deer and many varieties of birds. Red Kites are regularly seen soaring above the cottage. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with 2 sofas and a chair, kitchen with dining table and bathroom with shower over the bath. Upstairs are 2 large bedrooms one with a double bed , the other with twin single beds. A further bed can be provided if require. Set in a lovely rural location yet only 15 minutes from Dumfries it is the perfect location to discover not only the stunning countryside, towns and villages that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer,but also the wonderful Solway coastline. The rural situation ensures that we have no light pollution so the night skies are amazing! Drumlanrig Castle, Threave Gardens /Castle, Caerlaverock Castle are all within easy reach. Golf, fishing, cycling and many other outdoor pursuits are available locally.Edinburgh and Glasgow can be accessed within 90 minutes. Guests are welcome to arrange a supermarket delivery to the cottage for the day of their arrival. Scaurbrae Cottage is situated in a rural location, surrounded by open countryside, woodland and hills. The fields surrounding the cottage are home to sheep, lambs and cattle, including the world renowned Belted Galloway Cattle and of course our resident Shetland pony!. The hills offer many tracks and trails for walkers with outstanding views. The Cairn Water is just 500 metres from the property, fishing permits are available locally. The Cairn is a tributary for the River Nith, well known for its salmon fishing. Ellisland , once home to Robert Burns is open to the public and just 5 miles away. Visitors to the cottage are always amazed at how tranquil the immediate surroundings are despite being only 15 mins from Dumfries.

The area offers peace and tranquility in gorgeous, countryside where there is an abundance of wildlife, even get close to the now rare red squirrel. Walks and cycle trails start right at the cottage door. Maps are provided. Drive for miles on traffic free roads. The local River Nith is 2 miles away, with it's tributaries which are famous for trout, sea trout and salmon. Permits are available locally. Rainbow trout and course fishing are also available. Other activities include golf, horse-riding, pottery, painting, bird watching, bee-keeping (Help or watch the owner produce his very own honey), quad biking, sailing, museums, castles and more, not forgetting the tea room trail!

L'étable est composé d'une chambre familiale, une chambre double salle de bains et une chambre lits jumeaux salle de bains, avec une capacité supplémentaire disponible sur le divan-lit dans le studio. Chaque chambre dispose d'une armoire, coiffeuse, meuble de chevet, porte-serviette et télévision numérique. Vers le haut, les lits sont faits à votre arrivée et les serviettes et la literie supplémentaire sont fournis. Il y a une cuisine moderne ouverte, salle à manger et séjour avec Français portes qui s'ouvrent sur le patio avec table de pique-nique, vous pouvez choisir de manger à l'intérieur ou l'extérieur. La cuisine entièrement équipée est conçue pour répondre à vos besoins avec un lave-vaisselle, lave-linge et sèche-linge, micro-ondes combiné, séchoir, four électrique et plaque de cuisson, grille-pain, réfrigérateur et petit congélateur.                     Ancien moulin d'eau, les poutres sont retour sur place et tous les murs de pierre sont originales. Idéal pour les petits groupes ou familles en quête d'un gîte de vacances à Dumfries & Galloway. Nous pouvons accueillir au maximum 5 rafales dans 2 chambres. 1 chambre a un lit king size et l'autre un lit double ainsi qu'un single supplémentaire si nécessaire pour 5ème personne. Allanton Mill est une gîte avec cuisine dans une eau convertie ancienne moulin datant de 1739 près de Auldgirth (environ 1 mile), Dumfries, qui abritait à l'origine le grain séchage des fours, des pierres de moulin et mécanique pour le fraisage des cultures locales de haute qualité. Situé dans un endroit rural magnifique avec grandes activités aux portes, Allanton Mill est parfait pour les petits groupes ou familles en quête d'une pause de la campagne, Dumfries et Thornhill juste une courte distance en voiture. À proximité de l'ancienne maison du célèbre poète Robert Burns, qui est maintenant une attraction populaire du Musée et le visiteur.
