The SpaceThe Clive & Curzon is a family-run boutique B&B in the Nilgiris, perched above the lovely Ketti valley, midway between Ooty and Coonoor, in the midst of an acre of tea.
Built in the style of a traditional planters’ bungalow, this newly built property offers 3 luxury bedrooms each tastefully furnished in its own style. The bungalow’s elegant living spaces, the sun-filled garden and splendid views perfectly complement the Nilgiri experience.
The property has wonderful views of the mountain ridge running from Ooty and Doddabetta on the West, towards Coonoor to the East. Right in front of us lie the dark green woods that surround Laidlaw School, with its church spire peaking out above the tree tops.
The long front verandah and lawns which wrap around the bungalow, are the perfect vantage points to take in the views, aided by a pot of our homegrown green tea. The living room has a working fireplace and comfortable seating for those who would like to cuddle up with a book or a rejuvenating refreshment. The TV lounge has a large flatscreen television with cable and netflix (for those who need their daily telly-fix), as well as a cozy sun-bathed bay window with a lovely view of Doddabetta. Guest AccessGuests have the entire property pretty much to themselves - except for Mr. William who rules over the kitchen, and our author-in-residence & family patriarch who lives next door in his self-sustained cottage. Interaction with GuestsOne or more of us are available either on the property (bothering the patriarch next door), and on phone or email if you need us. There are always staff on the property to assist with any immediate help you may need. The NeighborhoodWe are located within an hour's drive from most of the the major tourist attractions, hiking spots and tea estates in the Nilgiris. The most popular tourist areas, Ooty and Coonoor, boast a number of parks and gardens, a lake, several historic buildings and plenty of shopping between them.
We enjoy lounging on the lawn or in the verandah the best - soaking in the views and trying to identity the butterflies, moths, birds, flowers and shades of green around us. If you would rather be out and about, do ask our staff to help organise treks, tea estate visits, sight-seeing, or anything else that catches your fancy.
We are also a mere 3 kms away from the Ketti railway station, a quaint little stop on the Niligiri Mountain Railway which runs from Coonoor to Ooty – via Wellington, Aravankadu, Ketti and Lovedale – and back down again. Getting AroundAdventurous guests may want to use public transport (buses and the Toy Train) while here -- the bus stop is a stone's throw away from the property. However, we do recommend that you have your own car or hire a taxi to explore the Nilgiris. Slopes can be very steep, traffic hard to negotiate, and trains and buses infrequent!
