The SpaceStaying here means that once you arrive, the perfect beach holiday is right at your doorstep. Our home is a just short walk to the lovely Avalon Village (2 minute walk through the park) and the stunning, renowned Avalon Beach (5 minute walk, mostly along the “Yellow Brick Road” walking path). Beautiful Bangalley Headland and its breathtaking hiking track overlooking Whale Beach and Avalon Beach is also an easy walk from our front door. While here, you’ll never need to get in your car! The space Renovated in mid-2012, our downstairs studio unit has a separate entrance and its own bathroom with toilet and rustic shower, both of which are adjacent to the studio but entered from the exterior. The room has a queen bed and can sleep two adults. We’ll consider requests for families with children; we can provide two small air camping mats as floor beds and/or a port-a-cot. The room opens onto our shared patio and back garden. Our lush garden is large and full of trees. The patio area has rustic benches and a handmade ‘fire pit’ table around which we like to sit and have a glass of wine while enjoying the spectacular evening sky colours and the native bird life that surrounds us. The room has it’s own mini-kitchette (i.e., coffee/tea-making facilities, sink and counter, and plates, cutlery & juice/wine glasses, but no fridge or microwave). This means you can walk back from one of the nearby cafes or shops and eat at ‘home’ if you’re tired after a day at the beach! WiFi, linens and towels are provided. Laundry facilities are also available to all guests at no charge. Our important disclaimer is that we have two young children who tend to wake early in the morning and occasionally at night. You may hear little footsteps and playing in the morning, but we try to keep it as quiet as possible. Earplugs are available upon request. Location Our home is very centrally located, with easy access (by foot, car or public transport) to so many great places. A few of our favourites are: - Avalon Beach: 5-7 minute walk - Avalon town cafes, shops, etc.: 2 minute walk - Clareville Beach: 4 minute drive - Whale Beach: 6 minute drive - Palm Beach: 9 minute drive Avalon Beach village The beachside village of Avalon is a relaxed, uncrowded haven for beachgoers, local families and older residents alike. Here you’ll find plenty of gourmet cafes, restaurants, and food shops, stylish clothing and homewares shops, a boutique bookshop, and other conveniences such as a supermarket, movie theatre, etc. Yoga a pilates classes abound. High-quality medical care is only steps away from our home, with a larger hospital (Mona Vale Hospital) about 12 minutes’ drive. For the children, our property is adjacent to Dunbar Park, Avalon’s main local park, with great shaded playground and a huge field. The local Avalon Library is on the other side of the park, again only 2 minutes’ walk from our home. Surrounding local area We live in a water-lover’s paradise (that’s part of why we live here!). Some of Sydney’s best surf beaches are within a few minutes of us (see above), and gorgeous Pittwater offers endless sailing, kayaking, paddleboard, and sightseeing opportunities. In particular, the calm, gentle Clareville Beach is perfect for children, with its tiny waves and gently-sloping beach. Activities Endless outdoor activities await you here. For those who like spending time outdoors, this place really is heaven. Just a few of the many activities that you can do here are: • Exploring both our beautiful Pacific Ocean-side and protected Pittwater coastlines, or just sitting on the beach and watching the waves roll in • Surfing, bodyboarding, stand-up paddle boarding, etc. • Swimming, both in the ocean and in our local rock pool built into the cliffs at the south end of Avalon Beach (free and open to the pubic) • Hiking and bushwalking (local coastal trails overlooking the ocean/Pittwater and Ku-ring-Gai National Park) • Sea kayaking • Boating: you can hire anything from small dinghies to large, live-aboard sailboats on stunning Pittwater, both of which allow you to explore the uninhabited coastlines on the other side of Pittwater • Whale watching, from boats or shore (during certain times of the year when whales are migrating past our coastline) • Golf and tennis: we have a links golf course at Palm Beach and a 9-hole course at Avalon, as well as a local tennis club at Careel Bay. Our home is your home We hope that you will enjoy our home as much as we do, and will likewise treat it with the same respect and care as you would your own. Once you arrive, you will find that everything you need is literally steps away, so no need to bring your food supplies with you – the local supermarket (Woolworth’s) is a 3-minute walk across the park. We will be home when you visit and will make every effort to make sure you feel at home and have everything you need. Transportation Although we’re roughly an hour north of Sydney’s central business district, you’ll find that getting around the local and larger Sydney area is fairly easy. Our home is a 3-minute walk to buses to the city or other beaches. Go north to Palm Beach or south to Sydney CBD, the Opera House, etc. From Palm Beach, ferries operate all over beautiful Pittwater, including Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, and even to the Central Coast of New South Wales. The local L90 bus runs about every 30 minutes to the City and Palm Beach. Bus and ferry schedules are all online and easy to use. For those who are so inclined, you can even catch a scenic flight from Palm Beach to Rose Bay in Sydney! Getting to/from the airport is actually pretty easy – it takes about an hour to an hour and a half on the local shuttle bus (Northern Beaches Airport Shuttle), which we use frequently. They’ll pick you up at you’re the airport baggage claim and drop you off at our front door, and vice-versa, for about $70 each way. Weather Local weather in winter is usually sunny, with occasional rains, and a high of 16-18C during the daytime. It can be cool at night, so bringing warm clothes is a good idea. It doesn’t frost or snow here. Our hottest months are January and February, but cooling off at the beach is always a fun way to escape the heat!

Other Things to NoteFAQs - Where is the best coffee shop around? There are too many to pick just one! Depends on what you're looking for…they all generally have pretty good coffee. Swell Cafe is nice and busy and has outdoor seating; Ibiza has nice atmosphere…Sneaky Grind is a little out-of-the-way hold in the wall, but nice, and attached to a gallery. Basically, take your pick! There's no coffee machine in the Studio, but we do have a plunger, kettle, etc. - Can you recommend any walking trails near the coast line? You can hike Bangalley Headland which is gorgeous and can be walked to from our house. You have to walk through North Avalon neighbourhood to get to the trail head ... here's all you really need to know: (URL HIDDEN) - Can you recommend any good places for breakfast, lunch or dinner? Our fave is Different Drummer, which also has live music on the weekends (?), I think. We also love Bistro Boulevard (200m from our house) for an upscale meal, or Yoda for a more casual one. Starfish is really good, too. Lots of other good options I'm not thinking of right now, too. Just have a wander and I'm sure you'll land somewhere good! - Do you know of any places that you can hire paddle boards/kayaks etc? Try contacting Tony Henry's Avalon SUP ((URL HIDDEN) It's a locally-run Stand Up Paddle school and should know. You could also contact Manly Surf School, which operate out of Palm Beach just up the road. - Do we need to bring linen/pillows and towels? No - all are provided.
