The SpaceYour room is on the ground floor, and looks out onto trees. There's a comfortable king size bed and room in the cupboard to hang your clothes. You'll also have a private bathroom.
We like it when guests treat our light and sunny house as their own home - you don't have to stay in your room all the time! We have a lounge with a fire to keep you warm on winter evenings, a separate TV lounge, a book corner, and of course all the usual amenities you'd expect- free wifi, good quality bedding etc. We also have Lightbox and Netflix which you're welcome to watch if you need a night in. You can also be assured that the house will be clean!
Our house is private and quiet, with the added bonus of being close to shops, cafes, and multiple public transport options.
We're really happy to give you any information about things to do and see in Auckland - we both love to go out and usually know what's going on in the city. Guest AccessWe'll provide cereal, fruit, toast, tea and coffee for your breakfast and of course you are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare other meals. We might even cook you dinner if you're around when we are! You can also help yourself to the herb garden.
We also have two guest AT Hop cards - public transport smart cards - which you are welcome to use during your stay. Interaction with GuestsThis is our own home, so we will be around and hope that you will feel like you are in a friend's home. We are both freelancers, so we may be working from home when you are here; on the other hand, we might be out working at times apart from "normal" office hours.
We enjoy meeting new people so like to chat with our guests; however we understand you might also want time to yourself whilst on holiday! The NeighborhoodAvondale is a very mixed neighbourhood in lots of ways; it's really ethnically diverse, and there's a mix of big old houses alongside smaller flats. It's interesting! Our place is smackbang halfway between the Avondale shops, which features a good little cafe and an independent cinema, and New Lynn, which has supermarkets, a great second-hand record store, a weekly night market, and a shopping mall. There's also a good range of cafes and restaurants nearby, within a 10-15min walk or 3min bus ride. Getting AroundPart of why we moved here was because it's super convenient for public transport. We're about a 20 min bus ride from Karangahape Road. The bus stop is 1-2 min walk down the road and buses run every 10 - 15 mins during the day. We're also about a 12min walk to the train station, which will take you to Kingsland, Mt. Eden, Newmarket and Britomart in a jiffy.
If you're travelling with a vehicle, we have a parking space next to the house for you to use. We're a 20min drive from the airport, (you can also get from / to the airport using public transport, although a taxi can be the same price per person if you're travelling in a couple) and 30mins from the magnificent West Coast beaches - but only five mins from the harbour beaches at Pt. Chevalier.
It's important for you to note that we're not in the middle of the city - so if using public transport or driving isn't for you, we'd probably recommend finding somewhere that is! Other Things to NoteWe're happy to have children or a third person in the room, but note it isn't particularly large so it will be cosy if you'd like to put an airbed on the floor - just get in touch if you want to know more about this.
