The SpaceOur cozy home has 3 bedrooms and 5 beds: a king bed in the main bedroom, bunk beds in my son's room (8 years old), and a double and single in the back guest area. There are two bathrooms, one with a tub and shower, and one with a shower only. Our house was built in the 50's, and has character. It is not pristine like a hotel, but it is a great home, professionally cleaned, pet and smoke free, and lots of loving vibes inside. Your child, especially your son, is welcome to play with our boy's toys. He loves superheros, Legos and more. We love our home and will have it ready for you to feel right at home too.
In the back - separated by the living room, dining room and kitchen, there is another room with two beds and the 2nd bathroom with a only a small shower. This room has a double fold-out futon, and a single daybed, its own bathroom, and - if desired - private entrance/exit with access to the back deck and yard. It also has a gas fireplace, TV, DVD player, lots of movies, a fridge, toaster and kettle. Given that it can sleep 2 or 3 and has its own bathroom/entrance,etc...this guest area also rents on its own. Here's that listing if you are interested in something a little cheaper, smaller than a house, but with more room and charm than a hotel room: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/465837?preview. We're usually home when we rent this space, and offer up our kitchen if you need it. We often leave on the weekends.
Back to the rental of the whole house...there is a large living room with only sofas (no fold out bed or anything), that room feeds into an open dining area for 4 to 6 people.
There's lots of light in this area with wonderful picture window view of the nice trees out front.
The pine-wood paneled kitchen is a delight, though not huge. It has a breakfast nook, and hidden cabinets full of spices that you are welcome too. We have a ton of utensils, and just about every appliance (but probably the one you are wanting - murphy's law). And the basics are out in plain view: dishwasher, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, and kettle. None of these are brand new, but useful none-the-less.
The main living room has a larger TV now that what is pictured (not a flat-screen, but still bigger than what is pictured). The house has WIFI, basic cable, ROKU w/ Netfix, and a DVD player.
We have a lovely back yard, which is wonderful and lush. We have a great front yard too, with many trees and a great tree swing! The huge trees in our yard are captivating. If you are like me, you could spend all of your time in the typically lovely Atlanta weather outside and in the yard.
We are in walking distance to several large grocery stores, two parks, and 5 minutes from the famous Dekalb International Farmers Market. We are 5 minutes or less to the quaint Downtown Decatur where you can enjoy lots of shopping, eating, and general liveliness. We are about 7 miles from Downtown Atlanta.
There is a Marta bus stop less than a block away on Columbia Drive where you can catch the 114 that takes you right to the Avondale train station. From there you can get just about anywhere in the city.
The place is very kid-friendly, but not 100% "childproof." Our 8 year old has never had an issue roaming free. There are lots of toys (mostly for boys, some not gender-specific) and places for kids to play. But if you don't have kids, the house is also a nice balance of adult too.
Our house is our home. We live here year-round, but travel a lot for our work (a respected film/theater organization here in Atlanta). We love the home as do our many guests. However, we have had people coming who want a more pristine b&b experience. Airbnb suggests we tell you that if you are expecting a shiny, impersonal hotel-type experience, that's not us. Our home is wonderful and full of character - built in the 1950's (renovated in the 90's) with areas of slight imperfection from age, some stains on the hardwoods and a few water marks, older windows, etc. Even so, the house if great and everyone loves it who stays here. It will be professionally cleaned upon your arrival with many of our personal things put away.
We are happy to consider anything that you may need in addition to what we offer, as long as you communicate this. We are casual and fun people. Let us know if there is any condition, item, etc. that you need in the house before or during your rental and we will try to work it out!
We love watching movies, reading literature, cooking, enjoying a glass of wine or craft beer, hanging with friends, or nesting at home with Netflix, The Daily Show or HBO. We are down-to-earth, creative people and this is reflected in our home.
We have towels, an iron, hair dryer, and most comforts of living. So no need to pack too much. Just ask us if you need something else.
You can access the washer and drying (older models but work great!) down in the basement from the kitchen area.
Within 1.5 miles we have a nice park and an indoor jumping place for kids called "Leapin Lizards" (with wifi). We're also close to the the amazing Fernbank Museum, if searching for kid-friendly things, just ask. We can help.
In Avondale, within 3 minutes...there are two coffee shops, one is Gluten Free.
As mentioned, there are places to buy whatever you need in walking distance (Walmart, Kroger, Papa Johns Pizza, Gas, etc).
Also, we are pet-free, but will consider well-behaved pets. We charge a one-time, non refundable $30 per pet fee.
We will consider providing you transportation (as Uber/Lyft drivers as well), or renting our Nissan Electric Leaf to you if we leave it in town. But if we do that we must put you on our insurance. The price, because it's 2015 lease, it will probably be about $20 per day...but without the extra cost of gas! There will be a small extra cost for the insurance if we decide to go that route.
Thanks for looking. We look forward to hosting you!
All access. See above! The only things we keep off limits is a storage room in the middle of the house, and our basement.
As travelers, we understand that privacy is important, and we are casual folks that don't interfere much, but try to be as helpful as possible. Just ask.
We once had a guest that was expecting a hotel/bed and breakfast. We don't supply meals, but are happy to share anything in the house. Especially perishables that we were not able to eat before we left!
Parks, stores, etc. Lots of trees and wonderful families. You can walk. It's great. We all look out for each other. There is a lake and a park in walking distance.
Our yard has been treated for Mosquitoes for June and July.
The 114 bus is less than a block and it takes you to the train station where you can get anywhere in the city. You can also consider renting our Electric car or pick-up truck with an extended cab. Uber and Lyft are at the ready, and we have a promo for FREE RIDES on LYFT if you have not yet downloaded this app. To get the free rides, you must download it from the URL we give you after booking.
Thanks for looking. We look forward to hosting you and yours! Guest AccessAccess to all areas, other than a middle storage room and mid basement. We can even lend our bikes for your child to use. Interaction with GuestsNot much interaction unless you want it. Happy to help in any way, though! The NeighborhoodEverything, people, trees, sidewalks! Forrest Hills is a very sought-after neighborhood, but also very low key. Lots if kids nearby and a park and lake too. Getting AroundRent our electric car or 4-passenger pickup if available, or take bus 114 to the station. Lyft and Uber are all around too. We have free LYFT credits for you if you book! You can also walk to two major grocery and super stores. Other Things to NoteArrival time - we prefer check-in time to be 2pm if possible.
Fridge - we try to clean it out and make space before we leave, but sometimes don't make it that far in preparing to leave. Feel free to eat whatever you want, or throw away old items to make room.
Supplies - we have many shampoos and lotions and such things from hotel stays. Help yourself. We usually leave a bit of house supplies like paper products and laundry soap. But you may have to buy some of your own. Replacing these things is always appreciated, but we won't judge if you don't.
