The SpaceCome and stay in our relaxing guest room featuring a comfortable queen sized bed (with electric blanket), lovingly up-cycled furniture, fridge and cosy heater. The sunny room opens out to the front of the house with your own external access door. We also have a smaller 'play room' in the next room with a double futon bed. We can make this up for extra guests (1-2 people). The bed is firm but comfortable with the addition of a soft and supportive topper mat. The room does have a couple of tidy toy shelves and office cupboards in it, but there is still plenty of room for you and your bags. Guest AccessYou are welcome to make yourself at home in our family lounge and living room. We don't have a television, but do have unlimited wireless internet for you to use. You will share our family bathroom when staying here. You're welcome to make yourself hot drinks any time, and use the kitchen to cook your dinner if needed. Breakfast will be set up in the kitchen in the morning. Please advise of any dietary requirements when booking so we can do our best to accommodate your needs. We have a large back yard featuring an extensive vegetable garden, small orchard with friendly chickens, trampoline, sandpit, climbing frames, picnic table and an outdoor fire pit. You are welcome to use all of these things (great for kids!). Interaction with GuestsWe will be around for the duration of your stay so can help with your trip planning and offer plenty of tips for places to see while on the West Coast. We have two rather adorable young children, Stella (3) and Walter (1) who would love to chat to you but can also leave you in peace. The NeighborhoodFor more information on our town and it's history, please visit the Kumara website. You can find it by Googling 'Kumara' and clicking on 'Kumara West Coast'. Kumara is on route of the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail (first night stop over). Our home is just three doors down from the award winning Theatre Royal Hotel and a 5 minute walk from the general store. There are plenty of small (or big!) bush walks to explore, including the easy Taylors hill walk 5 minutes from our home giving you spectacular views up the Taramakau valley and out over Kumara. Or hop on your bike and explore the fantastic cycle trail! So many options, just ask. Getting AroundThere is no public transport within Kumara, however its small enough you can walk anywhere you need. The West Coast Shuttle can drop you off in Kumara from Christchurch. The SpaceThe little blue house was originally located at the Taramakau River as a railway house. It was relocated to this site and you get a unique experience when the train passes by the house (2mins). The train runs twice a day, early in the morning 5-6 am (good for those who like early mornings, otherwise you can just sleep through it) and in the afternoon. Interaction with GuestsAran and myself are both working during the day but are able to help out when we are on site with any questions you have. Getting AroundOur place is located almost halfway between Greymouth and Hokitika, across the road from the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail and a beautiful secluded beach with heaps of driftwood and other treasures, such as jade (greenstone, pounamu) Other Things to NoteShared bathroom and kitchen facilities in main house. Getting AroundWe are located 20 minutes from Greymouth and Hokitika, a shuttle bus operates from Christhchurch right to our door daily (but once per day) the Trans Alpine scenic train departs Christchurch daily for Greymouth, hire cars available at Greymouth train station.

The SpaceYour accommodation is separate to main house, a self contained flat on the back of the garage. You look out onto fruit trees and a paddock and its just a short walk to the river for swimming. It's quite and private. Friendly people and animals. Glow worms up driveway. Guest AccessGuest can park in front of the garage. It's quite safe no worries about security as you cant see house from the road. We have two hybrid bikes male and female guests can use to bike to Kumara or into town on the bike trail. Interaction with GuestsHappy to interact with guests as much as they like. We do work through the day though so cut off at night at 2130 hours. We are also happy to show them around property The NeighborhoodWe are close to town but live in the country. Great views and close to bike trail. No neighbours near by s very quite and peaceful Getting AroundNo public transport unfortunately. But do have two bikes you can borrow. You can get a taxi to town but it is not cheap. by negotiation we maybe available to help with this. Other Things to NoteYou have a 55 inch Freeview TV to watch and some books on the West Coast and walks around the area. We do have Wi-Fi but sometimes the signal is not great. We are happy when we are home for you to come and use your computers in the house. The Wi-Fi number is on the sheet in the flat for you.

Features: Historic goldmining features in regrowth native forest. add to 'Your Trip' Tunnel Terrace Walk LOCATION : AWATUNA/GOLDSBOROUGH EASY Time: 20 minute loop Access: Signposted on Stafford-Goldsborough roadside with carpark. Features: Track enters and exits through old goldmining tailrace tunnels and meanders through old gold workings. Passes through regenerating rimu, kamahi and tree fern forest. A great place to see glowworms at night. add to 'Your Trip' Goldsborough / Shamrock Track - Tramp LOCATION : AWATUNA/GOLDSBOROUGH MODERATE Time: 4 hours one way. 8 km. Access: Starts at Goldsborough camping area. Ends on Callaghans Rd. Walk back along road or return transport required. Features: Both ends of track feature signs of historic goldmining, including fine tunnels on Shamrock Ck. The higher portions of the track are one of the best remaining local examples of hill-country rimu & miro forest. add to 'Your Trip' Goldsborough & Kumara - Scenic Drive LOCATION : AWATUNA/GOLDSBOROUGH 2 HOUR - HALF DAY A loop drive that takes in many historic sights. Head north from Hokitika to the historic goldmining town of Goldsborough where you can try your own luck at the public gold fossicking area at the DoC campground or see old gold workings at the easy Tunnel Terrace Walk. Go over a short section of gravel road (suitable for 2wd vehicles) and turn left at Dillmanstown onto highway 73 towards Kumara. Along the way you might want to visit Londonderry Rock, it is big! Enjoy the revitalised town of Kumara before heading back to Hokitika. The house is in a quiet location, with lots of grounds to explore and only a few minutes walk to the play ground, local pub and shop. Listen to the abundant bird song, stargaze, practice yoga or head out to explore the local wild West Coast. Guest AccessI live on site and am available by phone whenever needed. There is free parking, however please close the gate behind you to keep my puppy in. She is called Scout and is very friendly once you greet her. Look for her unique half smile! She is still young though and can be hesitant and bouncy. Please let me know if you are unsure of dogs. As it's a new business your feedback and ideas about Greenstone Retreat will be very welcomed. The NeighborhoodKumara is a village of approx 300 residents. It boasts a dairy, pub/restaurant, gallery and clothing shop. There is lots water to play in and around with the local lakes, river and beach. A network of tracks for walking, cycling and mountain biking. Low population and very little light pollution gives us abundant bird life and an amazing show of stars after the sunset. Lots of historic information and interesting sites and attractions. Have a (EMAIL HIDDEN) or ask me for more information. Getting AroundKumara is a small town on a grid system so easy to find your way around. The West Coast Shuttle and Atomic Shuttle can bring you to the village. The wilderness trail shuttle can help move you, your bikes and belongings around the cycle trail. Other Things to NotePets by arrangement only. It is not fenced and dogs need to be supervised at all times, and on a lead unless playing with my dog Scout. The gardens are currently being landscaped but there is plenty of space outside whether its for a BBQ, sunbathing or watching the quiet world go by. There is full kitchen facilities for you to use, so please bring what you need as there is no supermarket in Kumara. Free bike and luggage storage as required.

        I have lovingly restored this beautiful quirky villa and have enjoyed the process. The villa has a wonderful feeling and is nice and cozy with insulation, a HUGE woodburner, heaters, new carpets and lots of blankets and beanbags to snuggle into. Its a place to reflect, socialize, explore, eat, practice yoga, read and study. A place to find what you are looking for. A fully equipped kitchen, large dining table and open plan connecting lounge makes this a great space to share with friends and family. Dogs and cats are possible depending on each situation. Please discuss prior to booking. I have a young springer spaniel who believes she owns the place. She is all talk and just wants to play, so greet her warmly and she will remind you how to have fun. The gardens are wild and rambling paths meander around the section. Currently (and forever more!!!) undergoing a taming process. Organic veges,fruit, local eggs and produce may be available to buy. Kumara village has lots to offer and is in a great central location to other attractions on the West Coast. Rivers, lakes and beach all within 10 minutes drive. Hokitika and Greymouth are 20 minutes, Punakaiki is an hour and the glaciers, ski fields, mountains and Westport are within 2 hours drive. Come and enjoy the area with the amazing Wilderness Cycle Trail, walking and mountain biking tracks. The stars are great viewing and the area is a photographers dream. Not to mention the award winning Theatre Royal Hotel within walking distance. Look at kumarawestcoast.org for more.
