The NeighborhoodSt Kilda East or Balaclava is in the heart of everything that is fantastic about Melbourne. Close to Chapel St shopping the main drag of Carlisle St has an abundance of cafe's and wine bars. St Kilda Beach is an easy 15 minute walk. There you'll find great seafood restaurants. For families and the young at heart hit the iconic Luna Park. Just up the road is the famous Esplanade Hotel where you'll see and hear some of the best live music Melbourne has to offer. Getting AroundThere is a tram practically outside the door which takes you up Chapel St to Richmond or straight to St Kilda Beach and the centre of town. Balaclava station is a 7 minute walk. Grab a coffee on the way from Neighbours Cafe and you'll be on your way to the city with it still hot in the cup. Other Things to NoteThe property is incredibly attractive. It has it's original facade. The front half of the property is full restored original Victorian style then the door opens to the main living area which is modern and classy. We can discount the rate for stays of more than 90 days Perhaps you’re on business, secondment, sabbatical, part of a film crew, or you’re immigrating and need a temporary base while you get established. Maybe you’re originally from Melbourne and you’re home to visit family. Whatever the reason, if you’re looking for a home away from home, Lynott Street in East St Kilda has been thoughtfully set up with the essentials that make for happy living. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds. Good cotton linen. Strong hot shower. Full of natural light and air. Hi-speed WiFi internet. Car park outside the front door. Close to public transport. Quiet street with no passing traffic. Vibrant neighbourhood. Quiet, effective heating and cooling. Floor to ceiling wardrobe storage. Sunny courtyard. No unnecessary clutter! And the best thing is it feels like a home, not an apartment or a hotel. Located on a small street with plenty of character, long-time friendly neighbours, a public library at one end and a playground at the other. It’s a classic Melbourne Federation-style cottage with high ceilings, a fresh modern finish and understated style. An elegant entrance hall leads to the main bedroom with a queen size bed and French doors onto a pretty garden path. The second bedroom has a king-size bed that can be split into two singles. There is a modern central bathroom and an open-plan living room with floor to ceiling windows opening onto a delightful courtyard, perfect for outdoor meals. The well-organised kitchen includes everything a cook requires when not eating out. Note: A few reviews mention noise from building works behind the cottage. Close to the city, it has a village feel with an excellent shopping strip full of street life, cafes, restaurants, bars, delicatessens, supermarkets, bakeries… all within easy walking distance, you hardly need to leave the neighbourhood. Of course you’ll want to experience the delights of seaside St Kilda and everything else Melbourne has to offer. You can have a great life here without a car, as there are trams and trains only a few minutes walk away. Melbourne is a pleasure for cyclists and you can hire a share car locally when you need one, with easy access to Melbourne's major arterial services. St Kilda East, is located 6 km south east of the city centre and is situated on the other side of St Kilda Road, away from beach side St Kilda. There is easy tram and train access to the city from here. One of the main shopping strips is Carlisle St, which plays to a more local crowd making it a refreshing alternative to the crowds of St Kilda. Here you will find some great Jewish food shops, bakeries and European delicatessens rubbing shoulders with an influx of groovy new bars and cafes. Although short, this precincts distance from the spectacle of St Kilda allows for a more relaxed local atmosphere.

We are also 5 houses down from Chapel st, where you can catch the tram/walk up to the some of the best shops in Australia. Getting AroundYou can literally walk everywhere, otherwise you can catch the No. 78 Tram along Chapel St, the tram down Carlisle St to St Kilda beach, or the train from either Balaclava station or Windsor Station (Sandringham line) to get to the city. Other Things to NoteWe have a dog. She is a beautiful rescue dog called 'Happy'. If you don't like dogs, we can leave her outside but preferably you will be okay with it.

The NeighborhoodThe location is great because it is very central, with easy access to the city and very close to other attractive suburbs like St Kilda, Windsor, and South Yarra. There is shopping and eating in Balaclava on Carslile street less than 10 minute walk from the apartment. There are nice little cafes (recommend Neighbors Cafe) as well as supermarkets (Cole's, Safeway, and Aunt Maggie's Organic Grocer). Check out weekendnotes website for lots of tips on what is available in Balaclava. There is a nice bar and music venue (also good food and coffee) called The Local just on the corner of Chapel and Carslile Street - about an 8 minute walk. Another option is a 15 minute walk North to the Windsor which starts the South end of shopping on Chapel St. This end has tons of op-shops, great cafes, and shopping along with the famous Astor theater. You can look at the Urbanwalkabout webpage for the south-yarra-prahran-windsor section for Melbourne to see the many options and suggestions. Only a 20 minute walk West to the beach/St. Kilda (or can take tram directly). This is the hub for nightlife, eating, and entertainment. Lots of music venues as well as a nice walk along the beach. There is a great bike path that goes all around the bay area in both directions. An insider tip is you can see the penguins that live on the St Kilda pier come in to their nests every night at dusk down at the end of the pier for free. Check out the web-site stkildamelbourne. If you hop on the train, it is really quick to get down to the more southern beaches which are usually more tranquil than lively St Kilda. Sandringham is one of my favorites ( the travelvictoria website has a good description for the Sandringham area) because it is never busy and is close to the marine sanctuary with tons of sealife if you like to snorkel. Another, more famous one is Brighton Beach with the familiar multi-colored bathing huts (tripadvisor has tons of reviews for Brighton Beach) . Getting AroundThere are many trams within just minutes walking distance, with one line directly out front of the apartment that runs up Chapel Street to the city ad another just at the corner with direct service to both the beach and the city. Plus, it is only a 10 minute walk South to Balaclava train station or a 15 minute walk North to Windsor train station - both stops are on a major line that runs frequently to the city center in one direction and the southern beaches in the other. Other Things to NoteThis property is best suited for single guests or 2-3 people traveling as friends. There is a double bed in the bedroom, a single daybed in the loungeroom, and a single mattress that can comfortably accommodate up to three people.

Whole place is available while I am away for Dec 12th to 26th of Dec and from the 12th to the 29th of Jan, if you can look after Tommy, my cat. This short to medium term share accommodation is really lovely! Apart from it's great location, the unit is air conditioned ( in living room) and your room has a reverse cycle fan, big work desk. Your rooms have double-glazed windows to block out any traffic noise, ensuring a good night's sleep. During your stay you are welcome to enjoy the comfortably modern bathroom, kitchen, living and dining area and laundry. A balcony runs off the lounge area and is available for smokers to relax and un-wind. Plenty of parking on the street. This apartment is on the second floor, so a couple of flights of stairs to come up, no lifts. Amenities Strong wireless internet is available for your notebook or ipad. Relax on the leather couch to watch a movie on the huge, big screen 65cm Samsung 4K TV. Watch my subscriptions to Netflix or Mubi. Chromecast attached. Fresh, clean bed linen and towels are provided. You will have the place to yourself as I will be away. All you have to do is feed my cat, Tommy. We are also only about a 10 minutes walk to the beach. We lived in our apartment for many years before moving overseas and now spend very little time in Melbourne. It's a pleasure to offer it to guests who will appreciate the efforts we have made to maintain its original 1950s character although with modern comforts such as gas heating in the living area and underfloor heating in the bathroom. We hope you will like our apartment as much as we do with its easy ground floor access, and garden outlook. You will find a genuinely roomy and warm apartment with separate kitchen, large main bedroom, second bedroom, and comfortable furnishings. The main bedroom features a double bed with a very comfortable innerspring mattress. The second bedroom has a wool lined double futon - giving a firm but comfortable feel for a perfect nights sleep. We are located on a quiet tree lined street and after a long day seeing all that Melbourne has to offer you will appreciate retreating to our apartment to rest and recharge. Being on the ground floor and shaded by trees it also stays very cool during Melbourne's hot summers. Fresh sheets and towels are provided along with everything you need to cook if you desire. Although there are plenty of good restaurants nearby to tempt you out and a selection of cool cafes around the corner. A TV is provided along with a DVD player and fast internet. No off street parking but it is normally no problem parking in the street outside. For public transport this is one of the best places in St Kilda to be because it is close to the only train station in the area plus several tram and bus options. Note that the house is not set up for young children - we recommend it only for families with children 12 or above. Large double bedroom with balcony, private bath and internet access; comfortable queen size bed, TV and radio. The room is upstairs on the first floor. We are walking distance to the bay, beach and tourist attractions in St Kilda and only a short train or tram ride to the City, Tennis Centre, Albert Park Raceway and MCG. Safe on street parking, close to public transport and easy access to and from the Airport. Rates are without breakfast, but we can provide a healthly breakfast as an optional extra, served in the private courtyard when the weather is good. The attractions of Chapel Street are also within walking distance or just catch the Chapel Street tram two minutes walk away. It is a non smoking house with an outside courtyard for smokers. The rate for guests that stay for a week are heavily discounted and therefore very attractive.
