The SpaceYou are invited to step back in time to a more simple way of life. However, unlike log cabins a hundred years ago, you'll find running water, an equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub. Reminiscent of Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, this hand-hewn log cabin dates back to the early 1800's. The log cabin was originally built in Northern Indiana by pioneer settlers from Pennsylvania. Over the years, the logs were covered up with clapboard siding and this preserved them for years. In 1970, another pastor bought the logs and rebuilt it in its present location in Northern Newaygo County. The log portion of the cabin has a great room with two sleeping rooms upstairs. In 1988, he added an addition which includes a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining room. In 1994, we bought the cabin and have enjoyed many summers relaxing and enjoying the peace and solitude. Note: Guests will need to bring their own linens and towels for one queen sized bed plus four twin beds. The queen-sized bed is on the main floor bedroom and there are four twin beds upstairs. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, silverware, pots and pans, an oven and stove. There is no microwave. FYI: This cabin is about one hour from Lake Michigan and Ludington State Park has a beautiful clean beach to spend a day. The NeighborhoodThe Village of Hersey represents the best of small Michigan village life. Next door is a mill converted to a general store with all the basics, a deli counter, beer, wine and Larry the proprietor who always greets you with a smile and conversation. Upstairs from the general store is a huge space devoted to local crafts. A few steps in the opposite direction take you to the post office and a restaurant - River Junction - with an eclectic menu and a bar. We purchased this home and gutted and remodeling it in 2007. We chose this home due to it's unique location between to prime staging areas offering the best of both worlds when it comes to snowmobiling and ORV riding not to mention the abundant fishing, canoeing and kayaking activities in the Baldwin area. There is an excellent restaurant (BARSKI) within walking distance and a gas station within 1/4 mile to fill up before you hit the trail. Highly recommend Barski for a meal while you are visiting. They are our favorite! This home has a turn around drive that allows multiple truck/trailers to park. There is a queen bed in one room, 2 sets of bunk beds in the other bedroom and a futon that sleeps 2 in the living area. We do not rent out the home from December 1st to April 1st and use it ourselves during this season for snowmobiling. We do also on occasion block off other periods for our own use as we have dirtbikes and quads. If you do not see it blocked off on the calendar that means it is available as we only use VBRO/Homeaway for renting out the home. CHECK IN TIME IS AFTER 3:00 AND CHECK OUT TIME IS NOON. ARRIVAL ANYTIME AFTER 3:00PM IS FINE. YOU WILL RECEIVE A SPECIAL 4 DIGIT CODE TO ENTER THE HOME DURING YOUR STAY. THE CODE CHANGES FOR EVERY VISITOR FOR SECURITY PURPOSES. WE WILL ARRIVE AT NOON TO CLEAN IN MOST INSTANCES.

This cute fishing cabin has the US Forest Service 'Green Cottage Access Site' named after it. It is located on over a mile of private riverfront land in the middle of the 'Flies Only - Catch and Release' section of the Pere Marquette River. Right next door is its bigger brother: 'Red Cabin'. Come to fish, kayak, canoe or just relax on the deck overlooking the river. Kayak, canoe rentals, and grocery store just a mile away. You will have access to the entire 80 acres to hike, fish or just relax. The cabin, built in the 1930's, has been written up in many fly fishing books as one of the best fly fishing areas for natural reproducing German Brown Trout, Steelhead and of course the Fall Salmon run. No phones, internet - just peace and quiet 'river time'. While not fancy, its location on the river is second to none. A perfect place if you enjoy the river and outdoors. It is closed for the winter Dec-March. Please see the 'Red Cabin' listing for this time period. Keywords: Fly Fishing, all sports river, catch and release only, kayaking
