The SpaceJames Tymons cottage is a self catering farmhouse set on 30 acres of land by the banks of the Owenmore river just 1km from the village of Gurteen in Co Sligo. Our welcoming cottage has two bedrooms all with very comfortable old wrought iron beds. The cosy living room has an open fire, loads of books and satalite TV.The dining room with seating for 6 has an old Stanley stove to keep the kettle on the boil. Enjoy walks with or without your pets (always welcome) from the door, down to and along by the river or up by the trees and beyond to the stone walled meadows.The local village is just a 1km stroll away and has a supermarket,post office, pharmacy, petrol station,traditional Irish music centre and pubs which serve food and good music. Its a great base from which to tour and explore the towns, lakes and mountains of Co Sligo and the north west region. Everything is included in the price - all linen,towels,heating and electricity.I also provide unlimited turf for the open fire and old Stanley stove.

James Tymon self catering farmhouse is a late 19th century cottage nestling on 30 acres of stone walled fields by the bank of the Owenmore river in Co Sligo. The two bedroomed cottage has been carefully renovated and can accomodate 5 people+ cot. Paths lead from the house for strolls by the river or by the stone walled fields through the trees or back through the land to the ancient horse chestnut. The local village of Gurteen is a centre of traditional Irish music and between the Coleman centre and the local pubs there are lots of shows and music sessions.Music and art festivals abound throughout the summer with every town hosting one.The village which is only 1km away has all amenities including supermarket,pharmacy, petrol station, post office, hardware store, hairdresser and pubs which also serve food. Our cottage is a perfect base from which to explore the west of Ireland. Close by are the lake dwellings on Lough Gara.The ancient burial site at Carrowkeel with its passage tombs is a short drive away.A visit to the Eagle centre outside Ballymote is a must to expierence these macnificent birds in action. There are scenic tours which will take you by beautiful lakes and mountains and through small towns and villages. The old market towns of Ballymote and Boyle with their castle and Abbey ruin are within 10 miles. Boyle has a beautiful forest park with lots of great walks and swimming on lough Kee.The Arts festival runs here for a week in July. This is Yeats country so why not visit places associated with the great poet like Inisfree,Benbulben mountain and Sligo town. Co Sligo has some great beaches especially at Strandhill,Mullaghmore,Rosses point and Enniscrone ideal for safe swimming,walking and surfing. Golf courses are plentiful with one of the best in Ballymote which is about 7 miles away. Othere are at Tubbercurry,and Sligo. Try your hand at fishing.You won't have far to go. Just stroll to the river. We have a quarter of a mile for you to cast your line and relax.Or why not try the numerous lakes and rivers that dot the landscape.No permit is required. The neighbouring towns host numerous festivals throughout the summer months while Boyle has an Arts festival in July.       This cottage is beautifully set overlooking the rolling hills of Co. Sligo. . This cottage is beautifully set overlooking the rolling hills of Co. Sligo. It has been totally renovated yet retains an old world feel with its wood burning stove in the kitchen and open fire in the lounge. On fine evenings you can sit out on the deck to enjoy the sunset over the west of Ireland. The village of Gurteen, when translated, means ’little garden’, and that is just what this area is. For walkers, the nearby Curlew mountains offer challenging walks. Lough Garra and Lough Derg offer boating, fishing and other water activities. Golfers are also spoilt with several golf courses within easy reach. Gurteen is home to the Coleman Traditional Irish Music Centre. Exhibitions, concerts, workshops and summer schools are just some of its activities. Regular "ceili nights" and music sessions are held here and in the local pubs. Lough Key Forest Park is a fabulous day out with many beautiful walks and an activity park. Sligo and Carrick on Shannon are only 40 minutes away, with Strandhill, renowned for its excellent surfing, dunes and wide sandy beach is only 30 minutes. Further afield Westport, Galway and Connemara are all worth a day trip. Ireland West Airport in Knock is 40 minutes away. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles. .       James Tymons farmhouse cottage which has been carefully modernised is set on 30 acres of farm land by the banks of the Owenmore river. It is fully centrally heated but retains the character of the open fire and a large peat and timber burning stove.I provide unlimited peat and wood for your enjoyment including everything needed to start the fire. Bedrooms have original wrought iron bed frames and original character floor boards. The cottage is just 1km from the local village of Gurteen, the centre of traditional Irish music in Co Sligo. It has lots of services including supermarket, health centre,pharmacy, post office, petrol station and hardware store. After a day exploring the wonderful and varied landscape of Yeats country relax with a stroll on our prepared paths by the river or through the rookery to the ancient horse chestnut tree. In the evening sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy a turf fire or why not stroll to the village to enjoy traditional Irish music in the local pubs. On those lazy sunny days sit in the garden or the courtyard and fire up the BBQ. You could also take your lunch and have a picnic on our garden furniture by the river bank. Why not try your hand at fishing. The cottage is bordered by approx 400 metres of the Owenmore river and you will find a path running along its length. To the rear of the cottage we have the old cowbire and stone walled sheds.The haybarn is to the rear of these sheds. Paths leading around the farm radiate from here.
