Interaction with GuestsI am very happy to interact with guests as much as they would like and/or need. This is a home that just loves welcoming people from all over our beautiful country and indeed the world at large. I work locally and so I am flexible enough to be able to meet guests to welcome them. Guests are then furnished with their own keys and are free to come and go as they please. Getting AroundDunlavin is less than an hour from Dublin airport. If you are coming for a short stay (like a wedding in Rathsallagh!!) transfers to and from the airport and to and from the wedding venue can be arranged for an extra charge. Otherwise you will need a car or a bike to get around!

The SpaceThis unassuming property's interior will surprise you as it opens up into a modern contemporary kitchen, relaxation and dining areas. Two wood burning stoves add to the cosy feel of the home and lots of books art and memorabilia tell stories of the eclectic tastes of the home owners. (Norrie & Tom) Guest AccessGuests are pretty much free to roam about the house (except maybe into our teenage son's bedroom!), join us for a cup of tea or glass of wine or food. There is always a warm welcome in our home. We have 2 springer spaniels who are very friendly but do not have access to the house, the back yard is a sun trap but currently undergoing renovation, guests are welcome to access it if they don't mind a bit of a mess. Interaction with GuestsBeing a professional photographer Norrie can offer camera and photographic instruction or trips to nearby photogenic areas less well travelled by tourists. We have local archaeological and paleolithic sites (stone circles, Dolmens etc) as well as Harry Clarke design stained glass windows in churches nearby. The Blessington lakes and Glendalough also afford stunning photo opportunities for the keen photographer. The NeighborhoodFrom the house you walk out the front door into the historic village of Dunlavin. It was an old market town and a railway used to run by it...hence the old railway buildings and bridges dotted around the vicinity. There is also a monument to a massacre of 36 men that occurred on the green in Dunlavin and was one of the causes of the 1798 uprising. It is also in the locale of Viking & Celtic battles sites. On a happier note there are 3 public houses in Dunlavin and two pretty churches. It also has a vibrant art scene which culminates every year in a festival over midsummer. If you like art or buy art it is a must! Both Tom and I are on the festival committee. For foodies we have a top class butcher and a local organic cider brewer and lots of other home producers in the area. There are always things going on in this small seemingly sleepy village.... Getting AroundWe have ample on street parking outside our door, a car is advisable to visit the area as there are many interesting sites within short driving distance. The village is only 45 minutes from Dublin city center and features a scenic drive through the Dublin mountains, by the Blessington lakes and then along the base of the Wicklow mountains. Quite beautiful. There are local taxi services but we can drop you to local restaurants and pubs of an eveing should you wish to have a little beverage or two! Buses regularly go in to Dublin from Blessington which is only a 12 minute drive away. Naas, Newbridge and Kilcullen are short drives from here and the famous Punchestown and Curragh racecourses are close by as are the Japanese Gardens and National Stud and the outlet shopping facility of Kildare Village. One night may not be enough! :) Other Things to NoteMore famous tourist sites locally are Glendalough, Russborough and the Blessington lakes where the 'Vikings' series was filmed during August of this year. We can facilitate fishing and boat hire on the lake, local off roading courses, horseriding and even lifts and collections to the local Tapas Bar in Grangecon or any other restaurant or bar in the vicinity. Rathsallagh House and Tulfarris also offer golfing opportunities. (Rathsallagh is currently under new management.)
