Enjoy a taste of country life in the rolling hills of rural Kentucky. The family homestead, dating from a Revolutionary War land grant, is being lovingly restored by the 7th and 8th generations to live on the property. This is a big old farmhouse, complete with wavy glass windows, hardwood floors, and lots of personality. Large bedrooms upstairs provide ample space to spread out and relax, with a private bath under the eaves. A mini fridge is also available for your use.Guest Access
The upstairs of the house is reserved for guest enjoyment, including the large bedroom(s), hallway sitting area, and private bathroom. The front porch and patio are also lovely spots to enjoy the sounds of the crickets and tree frogs! In the case of long-term stays, some limited kitchen use may be arranged.Interaction with Guests
We are happy to help if we can! We work off the farm during the day most days and have a school-aged child with a busy schedule, but we are happy to recommend area restaurants, sights, and things to do.The Neighborhood
What neighborhood? When the corn is high, you can't see the neighbors from our house. We sit on a slight hill in rolling rural Kentucky, surrounded by farmland, redbud and fruit trees, and 100-year-old shade trees. We are just a few minutes from Bloomfield (a one-stoplight town with gas, a Dollar General, antiques, hardware, three restaurants, pharmacy and gift shops), 15 minutes from Taylorsville (two stoplights with grocery store and fast food) and 15 minutes from Bardstown. Bardstown has big-box stores, great boutiques, multiple good, local restaurants and a host of chains, and tons of history. Oh, and BOURBON!Getting Around
There's no public transportation out here; you'll need a car. The Louisville airport is less than an hour away, as is Lexington's.Other Things to Note
This is an old farm house, built before the days of central heat or electricity. While we do have both of those amenities now, neither is completely modern. We augment the central heat and air in the upstairs rooms with room units, and we work with limited numbers of outlets. We do have an indoor/outdoor cat who is not allowed in the rooms upstairs (though she'll try to sweet talk you into letting her in!). We also have a farm dog who will bark at visitors. The farm currently is home to a herd of barn cats and a free-range flock of laying hens. We grow a large organic garden surrounded by fruit and nut trees, blackberry and blueberry bushes. We are central to most of the distilleries on the Bourbon Trail and the wineries on the KY Wine Trail, as we are located between Louisville, Lexington and Bardstown. We are surrounded by the natural beauty of Taylorsville Lake State Park, Bernheim Research Arboretum, and the farmland of mid-Kentucky. Civil War battlefields and museums abound in the area, as do antiques stores. Bardstown, voted the most beautiful small town in America several years ago (and we think it is even more beautiful now!) is just a few miles down the road. We think we have the absolute best of country living that is still close enough to Louisville and Lexington to enjoy the city amenities. We hope you'll come see for yourself!
