The NeighborhoodThis place is about peace and serenity and finding that mindful balance that eludes us all in our busy lives. We urge our guests to get out into nature and the sheer beauty of it all will be a revelation. This is old-time simplicity- freshness, goodness, real Vermont. We are so lucky to have our little piece of paradise! Getting AroundYou do need a car and this is a world of 4-wheel drive in winter, though I have driven my old car without it for years, but have good snow tires at least. In summer a little VW bug will get you where you need to go. We can provide directions from airports north, south, east and west as needed (Montreal, Burlington, Manchester, Boston, NYC). Amtrack gets you to Montpelier, 40 minutes south, while the Dartmouth couch runs nonstop deluxe buses from Boston and NY, and is only one hour south on 91. Other Things to NoteFireplace safety- Be SURE flue is wide open (middle of fireplace, (push back and latch), and wood must be to the rear of fireplace, or risk serious smoke damage. Do not use more than a few sticks of fatwood to start a fire. See HOUSE RULES for instructions if you have never used it before. Internet capacity- We have limitations as rural America is sadly underserved for internet. You can get email ( and at 7mbs we have the BEST service money can buy in the area) but if you try to download big files the system will jam up -- and you may not get it back online right away. Or even in a few days, as Fairpoint ( who holds the monopoly) is also not quick to fix things. Turn off all your icloud backups to facilitate. The library in town is our emergency resource.

The SpaceThis house was built around 1875, not much more than a century after the famous Roger's Rangers found refuge and sustinance on the banks of Crystal Lake. Like it's setting, some of the fixtures in the house seem to be out of a history book. Like the 1950s original metal kitchen cabinet and enamel sink. One day I'm hoping the guys from American Pickers will come along and offer me a small fortune for it but until then its a restoration project waiting to happen! Guest AccessYou'll have access to one or two double bedrooms (although there are a maximum of four) dependant on the number of guests in your party, a living room, kitchen and bathroom all on the ground floor. The ground floor bathroom (off the kitchen) is basic but functional; there is another more modern bathroom upstairs but it is in the middle of being redecorated and you might find that the ground floor bathroom is more convenient There is a large deck to the side of the house overlooking the lake which has a table and chairs (during the warmer months) and small covered porch at the front of the house with a cafe table and chairs set out (year round) Interaction with GuestsOur great neighbour Moira (known to her friends as Colleen) will take care of you during your stay. She is a truely caring individual and really thinks about what she can do to assist or help make your visit more enjoyable. The NeighborhoodBarton is a small town full of people going about their daily business. It has the usual facilities including banks, a post office, a hardware store, a well stocked supermarket, a gas station and a church for almost every day of the week! Barton Village Treasures is one place I can't pass without visiting or rarely leave without buying something! Year round "Parson's Corner" serves breakfast and lunches (except Tuesdays when its closed); try Dave's pancakes with Monroe Sugaring Vermont Maple Syrup (be sure to take some home, it's the best in the State!); they're delicious! But for a truly unique summer dining experience "The Copper Plate" at River's Edge Farm Stand is not to be missed! Eddie is a whirlwind and serves the most delicious lobster salads this side of Portland Maine! In the summer Crystal Lake State Beach, just opposite the house, is busy with families enjoying the sun, the sand and fresh water swimming. For a few dollars visitors can take a car into the beach area and use the amenities of the park including showers, toilets and barbeques. You can also hire kayaks. There's a lively saloon a few hundred yards down the street and I'd highly recommend going to the "open mic" sessions on Wednesday evenings when some exceptionally talented musicians get together and play just for kicks! Getting AroundThe house is located on Route 5 (south out if Barton) within a mile of I-91 and easy to find Other Things to NoteWhilst the view of Crystal Lake is very special, you should note that a road runs between the house and the lake front and although its not exactly a freeway you can hear some traffic noise when the windows are open. The St Johnsbury to Newport railroad runs along the lake shore at this end of the lake. The line doesn't carry passenger trains any longer but there are a handful of frieght trains throughout the day; they're fun to watch coming through and if you see one don't forget to wave at the driver and you might be rewarded with a toot from his air horn!

In Winter you'll find yourself directly on the VAST trail with plenty of parking, nearby skiing at Burke or Jay Peak and snow machine storage. The house is attached to an old barn in a small village in the Northeast Kingdom. Enjoy life 'in town' while being away from it all in a rural setting.

Privacy & nature. Lots of walking paths on many acres of land. Although it is secluded, you are only 2 miles from town. The house used to be a late 1700's tavern for the settlers of the area to get a meal and room to sleep the night while traveling the Hinman Settlers Road. Barton Vermont - Lots to do and see!: The house is located just outside of Barton and 1/4 mile from the Orleans County Fairgrounds. Barton has many cultural and natural activities. Crystal Lake is in Town and is known for boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking and has a State maintained beach area. There are about 7 lakes in the area to choose from. There are many farm stands to purchase fresh vegetables and fruits along with visits to dairy farms if you like. There is a golf course in town, a good sized grocery store and lots of nice people. Jay Peak and Burke Mountains for skiing are within 30 miles. Vast snow machine trails are with 1/2 mile away from the house. There is too much to mention -come and visit and I'm sure you will return.

Privacy & nature. Lots of walking paths on many acres of land. Although it is secluded, you are only 2 miles from town. The house used to be a late 1700's tavern for the settlers of the area to get a meal and room to sleep the night while traveling the Hinman Settlers Road. Keywords: house

Located along a trout river in a small village in the heart of Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, the Fuller Farm is the ideal place for your family vacation, especially if the finer things matter. Kids and horses welcome! The Fuller Farm is a grand Victorian farmhouse that was purchased at auction and now is completely renovated. Originally built in the 1800’s, the owners have outfitted the home with modern conveniences with an eye towards preserving its original grandeur. The farmhouse sits on 17 acres, with the original rustic 3 story horse barn intact. It has the look and feel of the past with the amenities needed to make it the perfect four season getaway for family and friends. The Fuller Farm has a large eat in restaurant quality kitchen perfect for gathering after a day of enjoying some of the many activities available in the area. Head out to one of the crystal clear lakes for swimming, fishing or boating late spring through early fall, or ski mountains or snowmobile trails winter into spring. Horseback riding is popular in the area, with many dirt roads and scenic trails, plus the Orleans County Fairgrounds just down Park Street offers horse shows and equestrian events throughout the summer and fall. The Fuller Farm has 4 large bedrooms plus a huge sleeping loft for your kids that is accessed by a hidden staircase -- no kidding! The master has a separate 3 room suite that includes a library with thousands of books, a coffee station fitted with microwave, fridge and Keurig machine, a king size bedroom with a 42" Flat Screen TV and a bathroom with dressing room and skylights containing a large jetted tub and rain head shower. The large second bedroom has a queen size bed with built ins and the third bedroom has a double bed with a large walk in closet. There are 3 baths -- in addition to the master, there is one with double sinks and a tub with shower upstairs and another with a commercial washer and dryer with shower downstairs. The hidden 3rd floor loft has a large Sony 60" Smart TV over the gas fired wood stove plus a set of bunk beds, a bean bag futon and a sectional couch that can easily accommodation 2-4 kids. There is also a futon couch directly below in the large queen size bedroom. On the main level, you'll find a custom built restaurant quality kitchen with granite counter tops, stainless steel and butcher block, a 6 burner gas range, deep fat fryer, and large gas grill on the back porch. You'll find plenty of seating between the high top butcher block table in the kitchen, the bar set on the first of two wrap around porches and the formal dining room table. The first floor bedroom is the smallest of the 4, but also very accessible, just off of the dining room with easy access to the full downstairs bathroom. There is also a lovely den with river and pasture views and a living room with large sectional couch, 50" Flat Screen, Blue Ray and Playstation. There is wifi and cable through out the house. Should you wish to host a large event, the farm's three bedroom Annex Guesthouse is available as a separate rental and The Hanson House Retreat Center (200 yards up the road) has an on site catering kitchen and event barn available for additional fees (as well as 5 more bedrooms). Located within 30 miles of both Jay Peak and Burke Mountain, both of which offer world class skiing and snowboarding, the Fuller Farm is the perfect country getaway with all the comforts. The VAST trail which run into Canada crosses the property and the Orleans County Fairgrounds for those wishing to participate in summer activities such as horse shows, craft fairs and 4H without having to camp out is a stone's throw away. Leave your cars in the yard and walk a few hundred feet to avoid parking fees at the Fairgrounds!
