Description
The Space

Enjoy a charming country home in the Shenandoah Valley. Ample outdoor activities including snow skiing, snow tubing, hiking, golf, mountain biking, and zip lining, swimming and boating within minutes. Several wineries, caverns, and antiquing venues are within 45 minutes. There are enough things to do to keep from getting bored, though the home is cozy enough that you may just choose to relax. The home is comfortable and is beautifully decorated with Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, ceramic tile, big windows, and tasteful fixtures and decorations. The floor plan is quite open with the Great Room, kitchen, sun room and dining area all connected giving everyone the opportunity to be together, yet be doing different things. There is a game table tucked off in the corner of the Great Room for playing checkers or chess and overstuffed leather chairs and sofa for comfortable reading by the fire. The Great Room and sun room also overlook the playhouse and zip line so the kids aren't too far out of sight if you want to just sit and read while enjoying a glass of wine. The sun room is furnished with a table that seats eight and two swivel rockers to enjoy conversation or watch the kids play. It is also equipped with a heated ceramic tile floor which makes it a wonderful place to sit and read a book or watch the snow fall. The home has a well equipped kitchen with ample pots, pans, and cooking utensils. The kitchen is equipped with a KitchenAid stand mixer, a Belgian waffle maker, and an espresso machine to make a delicious cup of coffee, latte, or mocha to enjoy. The built-in island and bar, which seats four, overlooks the Great Room so the entire family can remain connected, even as meals are being prepared. The den is in another section of the home and has a Dolby 7.1 surround sound A/V system including satellite TV service, a Blu-ray/DVD player, and an AppleTV. This allows the kids to watch a movie without disrupting adult conversations in the Great Room, or you can enjoy a great movie in case it rains. The den also has a desk allowing this to be an ideal home for “working vacations." The master bedroom has a queen size Tempurpedic bed and separate bath, the loft has three twin size bunk beds, and a bedroom downstairs has another queen size Tempurpedic bed. There is also a pullout sofa sleeper downstairs. The game room in the lower level of the house includes a 12 foot Shuffleboard table and pub style table for a fun evening playing games. Another AppleTV can be used to watch a movie or listen to music while playing Shuffleboard downstairs. Children can also play video games or watch a movie in the downstairs game room. The home has an ample collection of board games for young and old alike. Outside, children can play on a small zip line or hang out in a playhouse built on stilts with an included fireman pole. Perfect for a game of Nerf tag! At night, all can enjoy a fire and roast marshmallows in the fire pit in back of the home. A front deck runs the entire length of the home to accommodate those that would like to be in the open air. The home uses a keyless entry system to eliminate the hassle of key exchange and there is ample parking for several cars to accommodate groups arriving from different directions. There is a contract to clear the driveway in the event of heavy snowfall during winter months. There is a laundry room with full size washer and dryer available for your use. Linens and towels are cleaned and put in the beds or in bathrooms in advance of your arrival as part of the cleaning service, all you need to do is bring your personal items and food!

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the house and may use the house coffee and assorted teas, bottled water, condiments, spices, flour, sugar, cleaning supplies, and paper products. Assorted quick breads, brownies, and similar items are also available for guests to make as they wish. Wireless Internet access (15 Mbps) is provided with our compliments.

Interaction with Guests

As your host, I will send you important check-in information and be available via the Airbnb app. Local maintenance and cleaning personnel can handle emergencies or other problems should they arise.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is a quiet mountain resort community with plenty to do, or simply kick back and relax.

Getting Around

You will need your own transportation to get around. Many amenities including the ski lodge, golf, dining, and a community store are a short drive from the home. Other attractions such as wineries, caverns, and antiquing are with a 15-45 minute drive. Properties within the resort community are not listed in the U.S. Postal Service database and hence are not accurately represented with GPS mapping systems; detailed driving instructions will be provided to help you find the home. Due to the rural nature of the area, the mountainside community is much darker than urban areas in the evening, so you will be able to see the stars; please plan your travels in advance. Nearby Mt. Jackson and Woodstock, VA have larger grocery stores including Food Lion and Super Walmart.

Other Things to Note

This is a private home and is decorated as such. The owner uses the property when it is not rented. Sheets and linens are provided and will be freshly cleaned and put on the beds before you arrive. All you need to bring is food, clothing, and personal items. The home is family friendly, including small children and infants. A pack-n-play is available on request (no extra charge, we just put it away when not needed to prevent clutter) and also a gate to separate the great room from the rest of the home with stairs. Please let us know in your request if you would like these items available. We will be happy to accommodate your family. The home includes a season pass (Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends) for access to and swimming at the Lake Laura beach. The pass belongs to the home and must be returned prior to check out. The home is located in a mountain resort community, the local roads will be plowed according to a schedule in the event of snow. Additionally, there is a contract for removal of snow from the driveway when there is significant snowfall - guests, please park you vehicle near the garage to give the snow removal contractor ample space to maneuver and remove snow. Firewood and fire starting bricks are provided for your convenience. Guests are kindly asked NOT TO CLEAN THE FIREPLACE. Fireplace cleaning is included in your cleaning fee. Beginning the weekend before Thanksgiving, and continuing through Epiphany each year, the home will be decorated for the Christmas season with a ten foot Christmas tree, wreaths, garland, and other festive decorations.
