The SpaceThis shed is about as old and simple as any barn can be. Originally the barn of the house, it has been converted into a livable space, with some creature comforts - heater, bed, running water, outside washroom, hot plate, sofa, table and mosquito net. This space is more like camping with a solid roof, than having a purpose built cabin. So if the wind blows through it do not be surprised, it is fun and comfortable though, but can be cold and hot depending on weather. The barn has running water and rudimentary items for preparing a meal, we have coffee, tea, sugar, noodles and other basic kitchen items in the kitchen. A full washroom is located in the back of the adjacent Cabin. BBQ is accessible anytime - supplied with coals and started fluid. We interact with our guests only as much as they like. If we are around then we do the meet and greet on arrival, and we are around the compound a lot working on things. Bauline is what is called an "outport". Today we are about 1 hour from St. John's, the original settlement would have have been more than a day's horse ride from there. We are really at the end of the road, from our harbour you can go out to sea, or you go back to where you came from, or you can up into La Manche Park (hiking). Please in our neighborhood, still fish when they can, cut their own wood, some grow food, others go away to work in the oil projects, others are local carpenters. It is a colorful neighborhood. There is no public transport available. We can help if the circumstances are dire. Car rental is limited and expensive in Newfoundland so be ready for that. We do have one shoresman who drives up and down the shore once a day and can give lifts, but your day has be planned around his schedule. There is really no food shopping around here. The closest convenience store is 7 km, down the road and the closest supermarket is 20 km down the road, and the closest REAL market is about 35 km. All that is outlined in a package we send you before you come. Guest AccessYou will have a bbq, picnic tables, available as well as a washer and dryer. Full bathroom is outside of the Barn but very close and it is shared with the Shed. Interaction with GuestsIf we are around we will greet the guests, and if they chose to have meals with us, we offer that. We are certainly nice to people - usually. The NeighborhoodBauline is an old outport. People are really friendly and curious about CFAs (come from away). It is a really nice harbour at the end of a road. Next stop is a hike to La Manche Park. There is a pond to swim in, a beach to have bonfires or walk, explore, trails everywhere. Close enough to St. John's but far enough away that it is still a throwback with genuine people. Getting AroundNo public transport available, but there is one service that can bring you from the airport to us after 4:00 pm and leaves in the morning @9:00 am. We can also arrange for paid rides, if need be. Reserve a car early - it is a real problem in NFLD. Other Things to Note(URL HIDDEN)

The SpaceIn the fotos it is the ORANGE CABIN. If this CABIN is not available for the dates you would like, please look at our COTTAGE, BARN, BUNKY, TIPI and BEACH SHED on AIRBNB. All our properites are listed as East Coast Newfoundland Cottage and Cabin. Thanks. The cabin comforts are basic, the space wonderful. The surrounding area, absolutely beautiful. We also offer locally sourced food on site at extra cost. Located on the East Coast Trail, we are at the head of the trail to La Manche Park in Bauline East. From the house it is a 40 minute hike to the swinging bridge where the waterfalls is topped by one of our many swimming holes in the area. The East Coast Trail is 300km of spectacular trails. We have a pond across the street for swimming, rocky beach for bonfires and kayaking is also near by. There is also a tour boat that leaves from our harbour to view humpback whales while visiting the bird island reserves off the coast. Two rooms. One bedroom has Queen size bed, the other with sofa/bed that is also the living/dining room with an outside patio. All cotton sheet and down covers. The kitchen includes a dining table and all the amenities including toaster oven, refrigerator, microwave and outdoor shared BBQ with gas or coal (bring if you prefer!). This second room can be converted into a bedroom on request. The bathroom has a hot shower and there is another outdoor shower as well. There is WiFi and a smart TV with NetFlix. Bauline East is an outport settled about 150 years ago. Derived from the French word "baleine" meaning whale, Bauline East is a fishing village of twelve homes with all the seasonal activity of fishing and crabbing. This is an ideal space for people who enjoy rustic living, suited for artists or traveling adventurers, loungers (there is hammocks), hikers, whale watchers, bird spotters and music festival goers.. We are 50 minutes south of St. John's, approximately 380 miles north by northwest and 1,000 meters above the sunken Titanic, in a sheltered cove overlooking the Atlantic. NB: PRICE - If you are worried about the price being reasonable, please don't be, it goes with our idea that people should bring prices down rather than take them up. We could charge more, but we don't, we want to rent at a price which we would want to rent at but with the quality that we would also want. We do not go for this overprice motel mentality. (website hidden) Guest AccessA full cabin with porch. Shared BBQ. The property is more like a compound with four structures. Other than the Main House or Cottage you have the most livable space . Parking is off the street. Interaction with GuestsIf we are here we interact or not depending on guests. The NeighborhoodIt is an outport community. There are only about 18 houses. People are friendly and the wharf is a working wharf so there is activity there most of the time, it gives you a sense of place. Other Things to NoteThe weather is all over the place, I have been in the most miserable weather in Newfoundland with six weeks of bad weather during the summer, but then again while the rest of the world was suffering from cold and misery, Newfoundland was brilliant and beautiful. You never know. (URL HIDDEN)

Sitting in the gentle lap of balsam firs, Blue House and Blue House Cottage occupy the far southeastern edge of the North American Continent on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland. The seaside property is located in Bauline East perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Bauline East is a community of Irish descendents who fished, whaled, sealed, and farmed for many generations. Getting there is easy. The outport lies 45 minutes south west of the city of St. John’s and is accessible by the Number 10 or Trans-Canada Highway and Witless Bay Line. Visitors approach through some of the oldest settlements of Newfoundland, including Bay Bulls, Witless Bay, and St. Michaels to arrive in this beautiful community whose settlement dates back 400 years. Blue House Cottage was built from premium construction materials in 2005 to accommodate friends and family coming to visit. The serene cottage with a soaring cathedral ceiling is equipped with a full bath, double bed, sitting area and a cedar deck with ocean view. The adjacent 1800 square foot main house was purchased by Judith and Allan in 2003 and restored with Roger Colbert. The home possesses a typical two-storey, centre hall-plan with an ideal view of the garden and shoreline sitting on original wooden foundation posts that pre-date the great tidal wave of 1929. Blue House has housed a number of famous Newfoundland artists, including Janice Udell. The small main-floor bedroom functioned as the general store for the community in the mid-20th century. A tsunami in the late 1960s wiped out several neighbouring communities that dotted the fiords and fishing villages along the bays and headlands of the Southern Shore. According to Barb, a local resident whose ancestors have lived here for generations, the tidal wave deposited sand in the front door of Blue House. The original house possessed a forge and barn attached to it on the ocean side. Historical maps of the community have variously named it Seal Meadow, Seal Cove, Whale Point, Ferryland, Toad’s Cove, and Bauline East. A little river running through the property originates in the great rocky barrens of the Avalon. The brook meanders through Old Forge Garden and down to the beach, and frequently offers up good fortune in the shape of horseshoes. These were made long ago in the forge that occupied the leeward side of the property in the late 19th and early 20th century. The forge sat on the path (now the East Coast Trail) used by travellers going by foot from Trepassey, Ferryland, Aquaforte and Cape Broyle to St. John’s. Blue House and Blue House Cottage sit on a sea-scoured landscape that has long attracted individuals of artistic temperament, who seek the haunting serenity of sculpted rock, sea, sky and sound. It was in this way that—in the summer of 2003—Judith discovered Blue House. She was visiting the Celtic Rendezvous Cottages on the Sea, and wrote: The stretch of shoreline is magnificent around Bauline East—it runs wild and deep in the channel (200 metres), and frigid (cooled by the Labrador current)—teeming with whales breaching, bald eagles, and puffins. The heavy breaking seas of the South East Coast of Newfoundland have claimed for it the name of Graveyard of the Atlantic. The wild waters caress the bones of many ships fallen over time. Great Island (straight out) is part of an archipelago of five ancient islands known as the Avalon Witless Bay Bird Sanctuary—Crown Land given over to rare birds, including puffins, Arctic murres, kittiwakes, seagulls, and others. BLUE HOUSE COTTAGE- 1 double bed + single cot available - $250 security bond, refundable after guest departure due on arrival - 50% deposit required on booking - Remaining 50% due 4 weeks prior to arrival - Cleaning fee - $40 for cottage - A fee will be charged for reservation cancellations - Cash, cheques, bank transfers and email transfers accepted - Unfortunatly, we cannot accommodate animals or in-house smokers - Both Blue House and Blue House Cottage include garden and direct access to deck and beach The East Coast trail runs through communities hugging the coast from St. John’s to Ferryland, and is splendid for hikes and picnics. The now abandoned settlement of La Manche is accessible by hiking 6 kilometres southwest, just up the hill at Bauline Wharf, along the East Coast Trail. The hike is through serene woods and shore that boast a lovely old suspension bridge, a deep gorge, and shelves of coastal rock exposures whose wave washed remains (once part of Western Europe) date back 550 million years to the opening up of the Atlantic ocean during the cataclysmic continental drift. Dedicated one-time fishers—now small boat operators and ocean kayakers—will take you out to the big islands that serve as bird sanctuaries to rare species of birds, and to Great Island. Close to shore are fabulous lagoon-like caves and shale and sandstone gulches that bring to mind generations of pirates. The islands are symphonic with the operatic melodies of rare birds, and you can draw close to see the nesting of puffins, murres, seagulls and kittiwakes. Things you must do while visiting Blue House Breakfast on the sea-deck and gazebo to see the humpback and minke whales frolic in the channel... Have a fire and marshmallow roast on the beach under the stars... Hike to Tors Cove to visit local craft shops selling hooked rugs, visual art and textiles... The Barn is not your classic big farm barn, this is a Newfoundland barn, enough to keep supplies a cow and hay for the winter. Today it is a liveable breathing space. When the wind blow, it blows a bit, so no surprises. Adventurers will like it! This shed is about as old and simple as any barn can be. Originally the barn of the house, it has been converted into a liveable space, with some creature comforts - bed, running water, outside washroom, hot plate, sofa, table and mosquito net. This space is more like camping with a solid roof than having a purpose built cabin. So if the wind blows through it do not be surprised, it is fun and comfortable though, but can be cold and hot depending on weather. The barn has running water and rudimentary items for preparing a very basic meal. You will have a bbq available as well as a washer and dryer. Full bathroom is outside of the Barn but very close and it is shared with the Shed.

The SpaceAwash in white wood and decked out with antiques, art, books and Persian carpets, Judith Robertson and Allan Kathnelson’s early 20th Century 1800 sq. foot seaside Saltbox home offers an idyllic getaway for reunions, weddings, special celebrations, or just plain romantic couple get-aways. There are few properties south of St. John’s that so artfully emphasize the wild beauty of the expansive sea-soaked landscape that surrounds them. When the couple bought the property in 2003, they renovated immediately, extensively upgrading the interior and exterior to contemporary standards whilst retaining the symmetry and simple crafting of the earlier footprint. Its character-defining interior exudes vintage beauty and bright calm, while the external grounds make the heart swell with a half-acre manicured garden rolling down to the roiling sea. It’s a home that holds everything they best love: family, friends, a roaring wood-stove, decks, comfy old armchairs for wiling away hours, well-loved antiques, a greenhouse, an art studio, and books galore—2000 of them in the second floor library. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire home and gardens. There are two ocean-side decks for whale watching. The Witless Bay Ecological Reserve with rare pelagic birds lies at the doorstep of this home.

It is the ultimate fantasy retreat. It's small and exclusive, standing on a 2-hectare (5-acre) private estate. On the Million Dollar Player show, the estate was twice chosen as the grand-prize destination. Even Jamaica's usually reserved Daily Gleaner has acclaimed the property as "a dream house, a place of serenity"-and so it is. Many feature films or TV shows have used the setting as a backdrop, including Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Its crystal-clear, rainbow-tiled, and fountain-fresh swimming pool is reason enough to check in. In the courtyard is a spa with thermo hydra jets and mini-waterfalls. A second spacious heated spa is set in a secluded garden gazebo hideaway. The living quarters are spacious and beautifully furnished with a certain elegance and much comfort. Breakfast in bed is a daily option. "Lavish dinners can be arranged in the tented dining room, with a white-gloved butler in attendance at the candlelit setting. You can also dine alfresco by the pool with lighted Tiki torches. The tropical setting is one of fruit trees and lavish flora, with fountains and fish ponds." Our place is set in a compound, three cabins, a main house and a teepee, all next to a beach and a wharf. The Bunky is very simple but comfortable. It used to house a Suzuki Sidekick and now houses people for a good night's sleep. It is private. It has no running water (yet), and the shared bathroom is about 100 feet away. All very communal. You will have a bbq available as well as a washer and dryer. Full bathroom is outside of the Barn but very close and it is shared with the Shed. If we are around we will greet the guests, and if they chose to have meals with us, we offer that. We are certainly nice to people - usually. Bauline is an old outport. No public transport available, but there is one service that can bring you from the airport to us after 4:00 pm and leaves in the morning @9:00 am. We can also arrange for paid rides, if need be. Reserve a car early - it is a real problem in NFLD. All instructions are noted in a packet sent to you before you come. As we have three structures occupied - the Cottage, the Cabin and the Barn we expect you respect others people space and tranquility as one normally would in nature.

On the Sea. A wonderful cabin. It is comfortable and private, high cielings, one bedroom, bathroom, and full size sitting/breakfast/kitchen room with an extra bed - sofa. You are 500 feet from the wharf which is the hub of this outport. The Space In the fotos it is the ORANGE CABIN. If this CABIN is not available for the dates you would like, please look at our COTTAGE, BARN, BUNKY, TIPI and BEACH SHED on TRIPADVISOR. (website hidden) Guest Access A full cabin with porch. Shared BBQ. The property is more like a compound with four structures. Other than the Main House or Cottage you have the most livable space . Parking is off the street. Interaction with Guests If we are here we interact or not depending on guests. The Neighbourhood It is an outport community. There are only about 18 houses. People are friendly and the wharf is a working wharf so there is activity there most of the time, it gives you a sense of place. Other Things to Note The weather is all over the place, I have been in the most miserable weather in Newfoundland with six weeks of bad weather during the summer, but then again while the rest of the world was suffering from cold and misery, Newfoundland was brilliant and beautiful. You never know.

Bauline is what is called an "outport".
