The SpaceFormerly owned by the lovely Margie and Reg Morken this has been a special vacation spot for many years. Shaded by the boughs of a 300-year-old tree with Spanish Moss swinging in the ocean air, the cottage has just been outfitted with custom-made bedroom furniture and a brand new sleeper sofa. Both bed and sofa mattress feature a comfy gel foam sleeping experience. You are on an acre of garden, steps from attractions in the town, but it feels like your own private getaway. In June 2016, we pulled up all the carpet, tiled the floors, put in a new A/C and 80 gallon water heater. The photos with captions are the views of the cottage before all the improvements. We have photos of our new updated look. Guest AccessIn addition to the comfy cottage with your own private patio and picnic table, guests may enjoy the acre of land that the main Palm House sits on. Enjoy our garden and front veranda, but don't miss the nearby duck pond, public playground and tennis courts. The cottage is in old town Bay St. Louis, within easy walking distance to many local restaurants, shops, a museum, visitor's center, the Depot District, and - of course - the beach! Interaction with GuestsOur Palm House is also on the property with the Palm Cottage, so we are here if you need us. The owner, Captain Birch is available to give fishing advice. Otherwise the ladies of the house - Anna, Grace and Ann - are available to give you a run-down of where everything is around the house and the town. Most of the info you will need, including the wifi code, are in the guestbook on the desk. Please sign it after your stay! The NeighborhoodWithin a stone’s throw, guests will find Depot District restaurants and musuem, 100 Man Hall, the historic Little Theatre and the popular duck pond park. A two-block stroll can lead to the beach or to the shopping district of Old Town, where you’ll find galleries, antiques and coastal cuisine. Bay St. Louis is an exceedingly charming town built on some of the highest ground on the Gulf Coast. Part of the reason the town is so historic is the train that runs near the house. We provide guests with earplugs if they need it, but most feel it's part of the charm of the Bay. (Tip: Buoy's Bar on the beach passes out shots when the train passes!) Getting AroundWalking and biking is the way to go - beach bikes are even provided with the cottage rental! If you need a lift to and from the airport or to the casino, just let us know. Other Things to NoteThis place is perfect for people who are driving in for the weekend, but snowbirds will also love it for extended stays in the winter. The Farmer’s Market is every Saturday morning just down the hill and the Second Saturday Artwalk in Old Town is sure to please. Please note that a train line runs through the town - as it does all along this coast - near the property. Trains are usually several hours apart and do not stop in Bay St. Louis.

The SpaceThis restored school house is one of only two in Bay St. Louis that has an individual listing on the National Historic Registry. It's also a designated Mississippi Landmark. The unique architectural features include wrap around clerestory windows. If you look at the pictures, you'll see the clerestory windows above the regular ones. The way they capture light and sky and space is fantastic - they make the large main rooms of the school seem like airy pavilions - and the ceilings appear to be much higher than twelve feet. And on nights when there's a full moon, wow! Unforgettably romantic. Please note: 9% local sales/lodging tax is included in our per night pricing. The taxes go toward funding our city and local tourism, which we're proud to support. Guest AccessOpen part of yard, front veranda, back deck. The apartment has four entrance doors that all lead directly outside. Interaction with GuestsWe generally give a short 5 minute introductory tour and then make ourselves invisible. Most of our guests value their privacy. Yet we're just next door or downstairs in our office if someone needs information or recommendations! The NeighborhoodSome people call Bay St. Louis "Mayberry by the Sea." Ours is one of the last authentic old time neighborhoods this close to a beach. Here's a description from Ellis's book: Ancient oaks lined the coast, framing large and elegant houses - many of them built in the 1800’s. Behind this dignified vanguard, cottages clustered along narrow, shaded lanes. These neighborhoods were mixed in more ways than one. Professors lived next door to plumbers, young families next to retirees, black next to white, rich next to poor. I loved that – it flew directly in the distorted face most outsiders have pasted on the state of Mississippi. The architectural styles of the homes varied as much as the people who lived in them. Cheek to cheek, the Creole cottage danced with the Victorian, the Greek Revival with the bungalow. In those lush yards, you could imagine the lingering ghosts from an era of ease. They didn’t want to leave. Nobody who came here wanted to leave. This place pulled at the hearts of any who have them. It promised peace and made good on its word. Getting AroundWalking/biking, everything you need is close by! Other Things to NoteEllis is editor of the Fourth Ward Cleaver, a popular online magazine for Bay St. Louis. It features an "Upcoming Events" column and an awesome Community Calendar. You'll find out lots about our wonderful town. (URL HIDDEN)

Enjoy our waterfront get-a-way on Henderson Point in Pass Christian, Mississippi. We rebuilt our vacation home after Hurricane Katrina with a floor plan accommodating our growing family. Quite often we have three couples with their own children sharing the three bedroom waterfront home. Rebuilt in 2010, this new home features a vaulted den, spacious porch overlooking the Bay of St. Louis, open kitchen layout and three full bathrooms – one for each bedroom. The location is close enough to everything, but far enough to enjoy the peace and relaxation of waterfront living.
