The SpaceIf it suits your need better, you can also rent: - The entire house, which sleeps 8: two people in each of the three queen beds + two on the pullout queen bed in the living room. - The Large bedroom overlooking the garden (AC, ceiling fan, closet) - The Small bedroom (AC, closet) - Or any combination of two bedrooms. Guest AccessIncluded: Guests have use of the kitchen, living room, dining room, two bathrooms, laundry, piano, deck, backyard and parking in our driveway. Other Guests: In many cases you will be the only people staying in the house. The owner sometimes stays there as do other guests, but often you will be the only guest. When other occupants are present, please be courteous and realize that the shared facilities are shared. Parking: If you use the driveway to park your vehicle, please pull to the rear of the driveway so that others may use it unless you have made arrangements with them beforehand. Kitchen, Deck, Living Room, Dining Room etc.: Kindly discuss with other occupants if and when you expect to use the facilities. If you will want to have a room alone, for example if inviting a friend over for dinner, please communicate with the other guests ahead of time. No occupant has any more rights to the facilities than any other. Cooking and Cleaning: Nobody likes to walk into a dirty kitchen or someone else's mess. We clean the bedroom and linens before each guest arrives and periodically clean the entire home. However, it is up to you to clean up after yourself. Please do not leave any dishes in the sink - there is a dishwasher and dishwasher detergent under the kitchen sink. Please make sure to clean up the kitchen and dining room after using it, including the deck if you grill or use it for eating. The stove, counters, sink, floors and grill in particular need attention. This way each guest will have a clean, sanitary place to prepare their meals and eat. Laundry: If you will require laundry detergent, bleach or color bleach, please inquire with us. If you leave laundry products on the machines, please label them as private and perhaps with your name so that other guests do not use them. Excluded: Basement, Attic Interaction with GuestsI am available by phone (I do not always stay on the premises) and I have a handyman who lives five minutes away available for emergencies. The NeighborhoodBayside, Queens is a unique, lovely, super safe, clean area. It is a quiet neighborhood of well-kept, upscale homes. We are located one-half block to Oakland Lake Ravine, a large, beautiful lake and park with walking paths, benches, ducks, geese, turtles, fish, etc. and a ten minute walk to Alley Pond Environmental Center (guided nature walks and activities) and the bicycle & running path along Douglaston Bay and the Bayside Marina. From the bicycle path you can access expansive Crocheron Park with its lovely hidden gazebos in the woods at the edge of the cliffs with commanding views of the bay. At the north end of the bicycle path is historic Fort Totten and a park with seating and fishing on Long Island Sound. Following the path to the south, it is part of a Greenway that extends all the way to the south shore. Just a few blocks away is Bell Boulevard, the heart of Bayside. This town - it really feels like a village - is a true mecca for night life - it has virtually every type of dining you could want within a few blocks: Uncle Jack's (world class steakhouse, Pappazzio (one of several fine Italian restaurants), Mexican, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Sushi, Bourbon Street (award winning Cajun), Donovan's (voted best hamburger in New York City!), and plenty of fine bars, and lounges for every type. Nearby Great Neck and Manhasset feature the world class Americana Shopping Center with every major high end retailer you could imagine - just a few include Whole Foods, Ralph Lauren, Gucci - the list goes on and on. In the other direction, within 15 minutes is Flushing, the largest Chinatown in the U.S., teeming with authentic Chinese, Korean and Thai restaurants of every type. There are abundant and diverse shopping centers as well as mom and pop stores surrounding us in every direction. Getting AroundOur driveway can park three cars. In addition, there is unrestricted street parking on our block and the surrounding blocks. Parking on many of the blocks surrounding the Long Island Railroad station is also unrestricted and there is a low cost municipal parking lot one block from the station; however, parking at rush hours can be tricky. If you intend to drive to the railroad in order to commute to Manhattan, plan ahead and do a test run. See all the options below. Public transit on the Long Island Railroad ($4.25 on weekends, more weekdays) is a 25 minute ride to midtown Manhattan. The Bayside LIRR station is a 5 minute local on-call cab ride ($6. for 1-2, plus $2. each additional passenger) from Kelly's Cab Service ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) located at the station behind the Chase Bank and next to the Bayside US Post Office or 20 minute walk. You can chain your bicycle (or one of ours) up at the station under the covered walkway. Many guests ask us for detailed information about commuting to Manhattan. Below is a detailed comparison of the Quickest (most expensive) versus Longest (cheapest) methods via public transit. You can also take NYC yellow and green cabs or private car services of which there are many. The time to commute to midtown Manhattan is cost dependent. The shortest trip is 35 minutes, $13.45 estimated average cost. The cheapest trip is $2.75 using NYC Bus and Subway and takes about 1.5 hours. The Express Bus is in between those two in both cost and time. As follows below: QUICKEST - LONG ISLAND RAILROAD (LIRR) $5.45 per trip = $10.90 per day walking to station or bicycle + $6 -7 per trip taking local cab service Local cab: Kelly's Car Service is $6. (for two people, $2. each additional) to the Bayside Long Island Railroad (LIRR) station. They will come to house and pick up and can be reserved ahead of time. They are located at the LIRR. Figure another $1-2. tip per person. LIRR: About 25 minutes to Penn Station (7th Avenue & 34th Street). Fares vary, you can look up the Fare (EMAIL HIDDEN) (this website will remove the URL if I give it to you.) They will be traveling between Zone 1 (Penn Station) and Zone 3 (Bayside). Assuming they will buy discounted monthly unlimited commutation tickets (good all days, all times), it will cost $218. monthly or $5.45 per trip based on 20 work days, round trip being two trips per day. Walk: To Empire State Building is 5 minutes Total: 35 minutes, $13.45 per day (and extra weekend fun trips therefore are free except for the cab.) They can also walk (20 minutes) or bicycle (5-10 minutes) to the LIRR and chain the bicycle under the covered walkway. CHEAPEST - NYC BUS A& SUBWAY $2.75 per trip = $5.50 per day, about 1.5 hours NYC Q27 bus from 216th Street and 48th Avenue (2 minute walk from the house) to Flushing, Free transfer at Flushing from Q27 bus to 7 train from Flushing to Times Square, Free transfer from 7 train to N, Q or R train, one stop to 34th Street One or two minute walk to Empire State Building. (Monthly unlimited MetroCard good on all buses and subways is $116.50. Based on 40 trips per month = $2.91 per trip. If taking other trips (shopping, dinner, friends after work and on weekends, figure say 60 trips per month and the cost comes down to $1.94 per trip.) IN BETWEEN SOLUTION - EXPRESS BUS $5.75 - $6.50 takes 50 minutes per ride, weekdays only For people commuting at normal business hours, weekdays only, the QM3 Express Bus is a great alternative. It stops at Northern Boulevard and 217th Street (3 minute walk from the house). The ride is about 50 minutes and costs $57.25 for a 10-ride, 7-day pass ($5.73 per ride) or $6.50 per single trip. It makes multiple stops in Manhattan from 34th Street to 57th Street. A great combination is to use the Express Bus for commuting to work on weekdays and the LIRR for weekend fun. On weekends, the LIRR is steeply discounted - $4.25 each way to Penn Station in 25 minutes. You must make sure to buy your ticket at the vending machine at the station and choose City Ticket. A City Ticket is good only on the day you buy it and is only available from 12:00 AM (midnight) Friday until 12:00 AM midnight Sunday (in other words, the exact 48 hours of the weekend.) I know that's a lot of info, so let me know if you have more questions. Other Things to NoteKitchen: Bathroom plumbing: We have a private driveway that parks three cars (front to back). In addition, there are no street parking regulations and we are in a semi-secluded, quiet area. It is almost always easy to find street parking if not right on the block, within one block. You can leave your vehicle for as long as you wish.
