The SpaceA self contained chalet/cabin in the garden of a beautiful villa in Stanley Bay, Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. YOUR ACCOMMODATION The cabin is modern and comfortable. Cosy and warm in winter - with a heat pump. Cool and open in the summer. Queen size bed with mattress topper, new kitchenette with electric stove top, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, no oven but BBQ available. Everything provided in the kitchen. New bathroom with shower, heated towel rail. WIFI in the chalet. T.V./Radio/DVD. You may use the washing machine in the main house at any time. Balcony with table and chairs is the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. Access to the swimming pool (in summer) if you like. It is solar heated. We supply you with a wide variety of easy food - eggs, milk, butter, bread, home made jam, cereal, bananas, tomatoes, cheese and crackers, orange juice, and a welcome drink of some small bottles of white wine; red wine or champagne.. Great if you arrive later in the afternoon or evening, and don't want to go out for a meal. Have a glass of wine and egg on toast, on the balcony. We have a selection of great reads/games for a rainy, relaxing afternoon as well. LOCATION Stanley Bay Beach is a place to relax and see the city lights. It is just down the road from us. It has a "worker's ferry timetable" which means it runs weekdays, in the morning and afternoon, but not in the middle of the day. Otherwise Devonport village is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk. If you don't have a car, we are happy to pick you up from the Devonport Ferry. It leaves every half an hour. Buses run directly from the airport to the Ferry building so we are easy to find. During your stay, we also drive to Devonport regularly each day and can offer a lift when needed. Devonport is the best place in Auckland - so we think! Great restaurants, an information centre, a pub, a cinema, waterfront walks. You can park inside our house property, off the street. The chalet is separate from the house, across the garden. Ideal for a couple, or single person. No smoking please. Please let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to meeting you.

If you want to prepare food in our kitchen you're more than welcome to do so. Laundry available - you can use our laundry and clothes line for your washing. Our home is designed to take advantage of the views and is very sunny with indoor/outdoor flow. Because we work from home, we have all the typical business technologies available, with wi-fi, printing, scanning etc, should you need access to these. When you stay with us, you're in our home as our guest, leaving as a friend. You can get to the CBD by ferry from Bayswater or Devonport. Walk to Bayswater wharf in about 30 mins or 5 min by bus. We're 3.5 km from Takapuna or Devonport. It's walkable or buses are about 5-10 min walk away. There is a "green route" cycle/walkway to Takapuna or Devonport within 0.5km from our place. Local shops 10 mins walk away include large variety of takeaway meals, including Thai, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Sushi, Chinese, McDonalds, Roast Dinners, Pizza. The Thai Restaurant has great value meals at the north end of the shops. Several varieties of Pizzas are available at the Belmont shops and great takeaway fresh fish and chips available in Bayswater Ave. There's also a fresh vegetable store in this shopping area, where I purchase anything I need, that we haven't grown. You'll also be spoilt for choice with the variety of restaurants available in either Takapana north of us, or Devonport to the south. Plenty of lovely walks around here, around the waterfront of the inner harbour and 3 white sandy beaches within 3 km. Catch the ferry to cross the harbour to the CBD to explore the downtown waterfront loaded with restaurants, cafe's, maritime museum and the Wynyard Quarter. We have extensive knowledge about NZ and Auckland and we look forward to making your stay comfortable. Guest AccessWe have 2 living areas, one lounge "nook" just outside the bedrooms on the second floor and the main lounge, dining, kitchen area, which is open plan, on the ground floor, with a short stair case for access to the second floor. You can push back the ranch sliders in the lounge and enjoy the grass and garden to the north side ( sunny side in NZ!) of the house. Interaction with GuestsWe're guided by our guests as to how much time we spend with them. If people want privacy, the house is large enough to provide this. One of us is generally around, because we work from home. The NeighborhoodThere's something about living on "The North Shore" of Auckland city. We're surrounded by beaches and water, with all the amenities of the big city close at hand. We pinch ourselves sometimes when we realise we're only 15 minutes to the city, but because of our location, we feel we're almost out in the country, because we're not crowded by houses and big buildings around us. Our water view is really special and it's why we fell in love with this location when we first found this property. Getting AroundOnce you book with us, we can send you a list of potential rental cars you can pick up from the airport. While it's possible to get around Auckland using public transport, if you have limited time, you'll see more and get to more places more easily with a vehicle, however you don't have to spend a fortune either. It's still fun to take the ferry in to the city from our side of the harbour and then you don't have to worry about car parking fees which are expensive in the CBD.

The NeighborhoodHamana House is located in the Narrow Neck area of Devonport - situated on a larger property then most Devonport houses it offers spectacular views and location - Devonport has wonderful heritage buildings, spectacular scenery, stunning beaches... Devonport, the beautiful village by the sea has it all, and at just 10 minutes ferry ride from Auckland’s CBD it is wonderfully easy to visit. You’ll fall in love with Devonport from the moment you arrive; in fact you may never want to leave! It’s no wonder that Devonport rates so highly on nearly every Kiwi’s “must-do” list and it’s the 4th most visited destination in the Auckland region. Surrounded by the stunning waters of the Waitemata Harbour, Devonport is blessed with boundless natural beauty, from the twin volcanic cones of Mount Victoria and North Head, offering some of the most spectacular views in Auckland, to its superb, safe white sand beaches. Experience the art galleries, cafes, boutique shopping, the history and the delights of all that Devonport has to offer. Auckland is the world’s 5th most liveable city* and Devonport is Auckland’s Crown Jewel. So come on over... you’ll love it! * According to the Lonely Planet Guide Things to Do No visit to Devonport is complete without experiencing all that this village by the sea has to offer. Take time to experience the truly spectacular city and harbour views from the summits of Mt Victoria (Takarunga) and North Head (Takapuna), both of which were Maori Pa sites (fortified villages) and are both still fortresses of sorts today, with the Navy maintaining a presence. Both have gun embankments, bunkers and North Head is riddled with tunnels, many of which are accessible to the public and all dating back to the end of the 19th century. Perhaps a more relaxed pace is more to your liking. Devonport is blessed with five beautiful white sand beaches all within walking distance from Mainstreet. So whether it's relaxing under the striking red flowers of the pohutukawa trees framing Devonport beach, swimming at Torpedo Bay or Cheltenham beach or eating an ice cream at Narrow Neck beach, you're bound to find your perfect spot in the sand. To get a taste of the real Devonport, you're best to take a wander around the local streets, discovering the many heritage buildings and grand 19th century villas that contribute to Devonport's unique charm and character. Most of Devonport can be explored on foot or perhaps you could hire a bicycle or take a fun Segway Tour by Magic Broomstick Tours. Alternatively Devonport Tours operates organized mini bus tours departing from the ferry building. Devonport has always attracted a wide and diverse range of artists, writers, poets and craftspeople that live work and display their wares here. The numerous galleries - displaying oils and watercolours, glass art, ceramics and just about every media imaginable - combine with studios open to public viewing, bespoke jewellery manufacturers and a quirky craft market, to cement Devonport's place as Urban Arts Village and Arts centre of Auckland. Swimming at the pretty beach reserve is a 5-minute walk from home and northern surf beaches on the Hauraki Gulf a 5-minute drive away, en route to motorway connections. Read on......or go to my other listing/637659/ for a cheaper, shorter stay. Guest Access> Free WiFI. > Relax in our lounge with books and music, or step into the garden. > Use of our kitchen for light cooking at lunch-time and dinner-time only. > Use of household iron. Interaction with GuestsI enjoy conversation with my guests, helping with sight-seeing recommendations and sharing your travel experiences over a coffee or wine after 5! Mindful of your privacy - this being your holiday/your adventure, I aim to do my bit to make it a fantastic experience. I work at home weekdays, so less available for conversation during these hours. The NeighborhoodA short walk from our house, take wind-surfing/kite-surfing lessons for an intense adrenalin rush, or drop a kayak into the water (on hire from store) for a paddle around Auckland's Waitemata Harbour or Shoal Bay. Spot dotterils and oyster catchers nesting on sandbars and navigate your way through the water-growing mangrove trees. It's safe to swim here too - so at full tide, pop down the road to the beach and jump in. We have a number of parks here, including a clifftop park overlooking the city and Auckland Harbour Bridge, complete with a shelly petanque area. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BAYSWATER You could nearly throw a stone across the harbour to the CBD... It takes 10 minutes via ferry and is surrounded by pretty bays. A safe place to unwind for evening walks around the peninsula. At night, Bayswater Marina reflects the central city lights over the harbour - the best view in town! People hoard to this place during fireworks performances for the spectacular skyline view. Bayswater is an old settlement on the Devonport Peninsula, established long before the Auckland Harbour Bridge crossing was built in 1961. While there were promises of significant commercial and hospitality developments at the nearby marina, 15 years later these have yet to manifest, and seem unlikely to do so, which has meant Bayswater has retained its peace and serenity. You won't find a place quite like this in Auckland. NEARBY Takapuna is 10 minutes away for top restaurants on The Strand, recently redeveloped for a meal with a backdrop of the dormant volcano Rangitoto Island in Auckland's island packed Hauraki GulG. Devonport, also just 10 minutes away, is the historical and community oriented hub of Auckland's North Shore - with the old Victoria Theatre, museums, the naval base and defense areas from World War II, along with funky and upmarket cafes, galleries, and shops. Explore nearby Narrow Neck Beach, Cheltenham Beach, Torpedo Bay, or climb up the old naval defense bases of Mount Victoria and North Head for the best views of the Waitemata Harbour, Auckland City, Hauraki Gulf and the islands beyond. Getting AroundHOW TO GET HERE FROM THE AIRPORT > Catch the Skybus to Auckland Ferry Terminal Downtown, then catch the Bayswater Ferry (10-minute ride) across Auckland Harbour to Bayswater Marina. I’ll meet you there, or walk to our house in 10-15 minutes. > Alternatively upon request, for an extra NZ$45 or $60 for 2 people, each direction, I'll pick you up from the Airport, or drop you off after your stay. > Driving from Auckland International Airport to Bayswater takes between 45 - 60 minutes, depending on traffic. HOW TO GET TO AROUND ONCE YOU ARRIVE: >Ferry: Easy walk to the ferry. Weekdays the ferry service runs every 30-60 minutes till 9.10pm and till 11pm on Fridays. Weekends the ferry service only runs every 2-3 hours till 10pm Saturday and Sundays till 8pm. > BUS: The bus stop is just 50 metres from our home. Buses run every 30 - 60 minutes from early morning to late evening to Takapuna (20-25 minute ride) with connections to the Northern Express (NEX) bus at Smales Farm station north to Albany bus station and south to Downtown Auckland every 10-15 minutes. > DRIVE: During off-peak traffic, allow 10 minute drive time to Auckland Harbour Bridge and North/Southbound motorway. During peak hours, allow 20 minutes. Again, we recommend the ferry for quick access to the CBD during peak hours.
