The SpaceRose Studio is a self-contained studio with separate bedroom (with ensuite) and living room. There is dedicated business quality internet throughout. It is decorated in white with an Italian flavour. It has a Persian rug in the bedroom, and I am finding art from local artists for the walls. The kitchen/living room has cooking facilities (electric cook top, microwave, Krups expresso coffee maker, toaster, kettle and fridge with pans, crockery and cutlery). There is a TV, a dining table (seats 4 and good space for working on a laptop), and an Ikea sofa that converts into a double bed (bedding, pillows and 2 towels are provided). The bedroom has an Ikea queen-sized bed and huge built-in wardrobe. Bedding is provided including underblanket, fitted sheet, duvet (doona) with cover and four pillows and four towels. The bathroom and toilet are exclusively for use of guests in Rose Studio. A heater and fan are supplied (and in summer an airconditioner).
The kitchen and bedroom overlook the rear garden which is large and open and currently (this time of year) quite overgrown. It is an Italian garden with lemons, fig, orange and olive trees and some small raised beds with herbs, vegetables and flowers. The garden is being converting to a Permaculture. The back garden has been cleared almost completely to remove prickly pair ready for making new vegetable garden beds. The last few weeks we've had wild wintry storms that have played havoc with the garden which is at the moment looking pretty scrappy with many plants and flowers only just surviving but now coming back (thank goodness).
We will wash your clothes using the main house washing machine (bring them in the blue bag you will find in the bedroom cupboard), or you can do them by hand or at the nearby laundromat. There is a small ironing board and steam iron and a washing line is in the garden with clothes pegs.
The front garden has a lawn and many roses and other flowers (all also recovering from the bad weather!). You are welcome to use the flowers inside Rose Studio, a vase is provided.
Rose Studio is separate self-contained apartment at the rear of the main house, which is a common arrangement in most of the Italian houses in this area. These houses were built by successful Italian immigrants to Fremantle and designed to be homes for different parts of the family. Rose studio has its own entrance and there is a locked storage room for cleaning materials between Rose Studio and the main house. Guest AccessRose Studio is completely self-contained and independent of the house. You are welcome to use the front and rear garden and the shaded sitting area next to the house. Feel free to pick flowers, oranges, olives, lemons and figs when in season. Interaction with GuestsYou can contact me in the front house or on (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) The NeighborhoodRose Studio is close to the coast. The suburb in which it is located is immediately next to Fremantle city and is walking or cycling distance to both beach and Freo, or a short car ride.
Fremantle's history has been strongly shaped by Italian migrants during the last century and this is reflected in this area. It is common to hear Italian spoken, and the local food shops have superb Italian food. Also, in the cafes the coffee is great! Getting AroundRose Studio is close to buses into Fremantle (bus stop at end of street). Buses 511 and 513 go to Fremantle (along with many others). For easy and cheap public transport buy a SmartRider card from any newsagent or train station. At the end of street is the local Beaconsfield shopping centre with the famous Princi's delicatessen, an IGA, a great bakers that also does pizzas and sandwiches, a pharmacist, doctors, hair dresser, bottleshop etc.
The coast, the beaches and restaurants, Fremantle Sailing club and the cafe/restaurant strip in South Terrace are walking or cycling distance or a short drive. Same for the centre of Fremantle city itself.
Travel to the airport is by Leach Hwy, which is a short drive from Rose Studio. Taxi or car hire is available from the airport or taxis can be booked by phone (Tricolour taxis on 13 22 27, Swan taxis on 13 13 30 - I've had more success with Tricolour taxis). Its about $70 one way
Travel to Perth is either by driving (Stirling Hwy or South St and the Freeway) or by rail. There are two routes. One is by bus along South St to Murdoch University Rail station and train to Perth (my daughter's preferred route!) . The other is by bus to Fremantle Station and train to Perth. Other Things to NoteBusiness internet to 1Gb/ day is free
The hair dryer is in the bedroom wardrobe with an iron and ironing board.
Clothes washing is available for free if you place your washing in a bag (blue IKEA bag in bedroom cupboard) and leave it by the front door to the main house (it is good if you tell me!). Your washing will be washed and returned usually same or next day for you to hang on the washing lines in the garden.
