The SpaceYour room is very attractive & light filled with a comfortable queen sized bed. My house is traditional with an English feel. Lots of art, accessories & personality. I am definitely not a minimalist!. Your bath with a tub/shower combo has a skylight & is directly across the hall. It does share with my single bedroom when that is booked. I do have an extra twin bed in my bonus/family room upstairs if you need that for a child- just inquire. You are within a mile of Beaufort's wonderful waterfront & historic district and walking or biking distance to the library, grocery & drug stores. I have a rocking chair front porch that you can sit on & enjoy glimpses of the marsh or my flower filled garden. The neighborhood pool is open in the summer one block away. Driveway parking, a LCD TV in your room, & everything you need to enjoy a visit to the beautiful Crystal Coast with its wonderful beaches, friendly people & many other attractions. This would be a great place for a couple or single woman to stay on business or vacation. Beaufort is the third oldest town in NC - we just celebrated our 300th anniversary! It was the home of Blackbeard & there is continuing evacuation of his ship, the "Queen Anne's Revenge". There are wonderful independent restaurants & shops on Front Street & you could just people watch for hours. Every day new boats come in & there's a great boardwalk for strolling. The Maritime Museum is free & very interesting. The closest beach is on Radio Island, about 2 miles away. It has views of the Beaufort Inlet from downtown to out to sea past Fort Macon. When you cross the bridge to Morehead City there are more great restaurants as well as all the chain stores. Most of the charter fishing boats leave from here to fish in the nearby Gulf Stream. Then go across another bridge to Atlantic Beach (about 5 miles from my house) & you will find Fort Macon, the most visited NC state park, at the east end of the island. To the west is the Aquarium & miles & miles of beach, more shopping restaurants, movie theaters, & one beach town after another, ending in Emerald Isle. "Down East" of Beaufort, are quaint fishing villages with their own history & dialect. At the end is Cedar Island, where the ferry can take you to Ocracoke & up the rest of the Outer Banks. This area is known all over as less crowded than other coastal resorts with many pluses, such as the wild horses that you can see from Front Street just across Taylor's Creek, Or take a short ferry ride to Shackleford Banks to see more horses on an uninhabited island. Cape Lookout is our local lighthouse- you can see its beam from the land, but it's great to go across on a boat & climb it or cross over to the ocean side of the National Seashore where you can imagine what it was like when the first settlers came to this area 400 years ago. Our historic district is as fine as anywhere & the Historic Association gives tours on its English double decker bus. Diving is another attraction- we have so many shipwrecks offshore. This is a boater's paradise- I've never been to a place where boating was more popular. And of course, there's nothing finer than just relaxing in the sun & cooling off with a refreshing dip in the ocean. There is a private airport here & the nearest commercial one is New Bern, about 45 minutes away & a great place for a day trip. You will need a car to do much- we are lacking in public transport. You may use my 2 bikes- a man's & a woman's - as long as the tires aren't flat from lack of air! If you need extra space- have a child or 2 people who want to each have their own room- I have a twin room also & will give a special price for booking the 2. Guest AccessYou can use the washer/dryer if you ask 1st- just need to show you a few things. Same with the kitchen. I have a great front porch with a swing & rocking chairs as well as a bistro table to use whenever you like. Interaction with GuestsI have enjoyed meeting all my guests. I'm a friendly person & will enjoy talking to you if you'd like, but if you're busy that's fine too. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is quiet & convenient. Very safe but easy to get places. There is a neighborhood pool for use in the summer. Getting AroundPublic transportation is almost nonexistent here. There is a bike path to downtown & taxis or Uber if you really need them, but having a car is important here. Other Things to NoteBeaufort is one of the nicest coastal spots in the South- if you haven't been here, try us! Please don't stay here if you are allergic or on't like cats, since I have 3. I am very careful about the smells- their litter box is in the garage- but they are very friendly & think everyone comes to visit them!

The SpaceI call my house Shell Land II, as I have a massive shell collection, many of which are displayed on my front porch railing. The house is a two-story 150-year old home (with all of the quirks a 150-year old home has!), located just outside the historic district. My favorite feature of the house is the large front porch, complete with rocking chairs so you can “sit a spell” and talk with the neighbors who walk by. My house is one 1.5 blocks from the water, and a short kayak or swim over to the Rachel Carson Nature Preserve, known by locals as Bird Shoals or Carrot Island. Rental kayaks, paddleboards, bikes all available nearby. I have two (well-used) bikes you can use for short jaunts around town. Note that I do use one of them fairly often--we can work bike schedules :) If you crave the open ocean, you can walk four blocks to the National Park Service Visitor Center and take the passenger ferry to Shackleford Island or Cape Lookout. And Bogue Banks with lots of public beach access spots is a 20-minute drive away. Your room is on the ground floor and has a pullout double couch (which I will make up for you), and is right off the front porch so you can enjoy those rocking chairs. You'll have a private bathroom that is off the dining room, not connected to your room, but it's just a few steps away. You are also welcome to use the outdoor shower. I provide a coffee maker and coffee in the kitchen--you just have to make it :) My house-keeping style is casual and my politics are progressive. This is a gay-friendly household. I'm happy for you to use the microwave in the kitchen and keep a small number of items in the fridge--no cooking, though. If you need to use the washer and dryer (or hang out your laundry), just let me know. I hope you will enjoy my menagerie of chickens and ducks in the large backyard. I have a sweet, three-legged dog that comes in the house at night and sometimes during the day. She won't come in your room, but if you are allergic to dogs, this may not be the spot for you. Guest AccessFront porch with rocking chairs. Dining room, living room, kitchen are shared with me--and sometimes my college-age son if he happens to be home on a break. Interaction with GuestsI have boogie boards and beach towels and, as mentioned, (well-used) bikes you can use. I have all of the info you need to plan your activities: ferry schedules, paddleboard rental info, bike tour info, etc. And if you want to chat with me about all of the fun things to do, schedules permitting, we can chat. The NeighborhoodBeaufort is the third-oldest town in North Carolina, and we have a fascinating historic district and many beautiful, restored historic homes. We have picturesque old cemeteries, and a double-decker bus, imported from England, that tours the town with a narrator who gives the full story of the many interesting things that Beaufort offers. Blackbeard the Pirate also spent time in Beaufort, and his house is just down the street from mine! Folks come from all over the world to visit our small town—for its history and its natural beauty. Getting AroundBeaufort is a great place to bike and walk. You will need a car to get to out-lying areas; you car can be parked in front of my house. There is one Uber car in the area, though I have not used it. Several taxi services. The closest public airport is in New Bern (Coastal Carolina Regional airport), a 50-minute drive away. Bike rental guy about half a mile away from my house. Other Things to NoteBecause of transference of smoke to linens and furniture, I rent to non-smokers only.

Please note: Since this is a room in my home, I need information from you 1st. Let me know the kind of things you'd like to know if someone was staying in your home, like where you're from, purpose of visit, profession, schools, anything you think pertinent. Please send this info with your inquiry- I appreciate it. Remember that any websites, phone #s. etc, won't show up in your inquiry to me. I have a cat, so please keep that in mind also. My home is in a quiet neighborhood about a mile from historic downtown Beaufort, with its charming boardwalk & boat docks, great restaurants & shops (no chains!), & old fashioned homes with rocking chair porches. You're within walking distance of the library, grocery stores & drugstores & only minutes from Atlantic Beach. This is a tourist area, yes, but not crowded like many others. The room I rent has a comfortable queen sized bed, wifi, a bath across the hall & all the conveniences of home! I love to meet new people & you'll have plenty of room in my home to sit in the sunroom or on the porch, ride the bikes I have, or just relax. The Maritime Museum here is wonderful, as well as Ft. Macon & the NC Aquarium. I am usually available to answer questions, since my office is in a building on the property & I have lots of brochures & recommendations if you don't know the area. I do also rent a single room so you may be sharing the bath with one other person, but many times it will just be you. And I'll be happy to work out a rate for the 2 rooms if you need both. I've traveled extensively myself & hosted people for over 3 years. I have great reviews on another site. I hope you will come stay with me! I've met a lot of wonderful folks. My neighborhood is a small newer one is a very old charming waterfront town. Beaufort has not been ruined by masses of tourists, although many people visit to enjoy its quaintness, great shops & restaurants, beautiful historic homes. & friendly people. There's something for everyone here, especially if you like water! I've never seen a place more into boating of all types. Fishing off a pier, the surf or deep sea is very popular. Swimming of course- Our beaches face South so they aren't as rough. It's pretty bicycle friendly And walking the beach or the boardwalk is always entertaining! If you are artistically inclined, there are many artists & crafts here. We have wonderful restaurants of all types- seafood, good ole NC barbeque, gourmet & more..Of course, we have convenient chain grocery & drug stores, but none downtown, thank goodness. You will enjoy all the activiies we have- I can tell you more about them when I see you.
