To have a holiday at Beaumaris is to open yourself up to peace and tranquillity, while still maintaining a good central location for day trips or that shorter trip to the local attractions. The beautiful beach is untouched and magnificent for surfing or beach fishing. Children can play in the sand, spending hours amusing themselves while you unwind and listen to the ocean and read a book. The beach being so close to your house is ideal as you don’t have to lug anything to the beach with you. As for things to do, if you are only wanting a quick drive somewhere close by then for short trips you could visit Falmouth, an idyllic township for that quiet day out, rock hopping or beach combing. Try a spot of fishing off the rocks or continue on towards Four Mile Creek and the picturesque Iron House Brewery – only a twenty minute drive from where you are staying.
Take in Scamander, only five minutes down the road. A supermarket and petrol station, great for that fuel stop before a long trip, greet you as you drive towards the Scamander Bridge, where you can see the magnificent ocean in all its glory. With huge waves crashing down on the vast expanse of beach and the Scamander River greeting the ocean. Fishing is very popular here and there a couple of places to sit down and eat, for that night out or just a quick lunch. Although if you are tired and just was a quick bite to eat, the Surfside Motor Inn is a short one minute walk from where you are staying. Sensational views and good quality, reasonably priced meals are a hallmark of this establishment, with pizzas also available.
Beaumaris is also a short twelve minute car trip to the town of St Helens where you will find the freshest seafood, the beautiful George’s Bay and some of the best coffee in the entire East Coast. You can wander the town of St Helens, with easy parking everywhere. There is a library for all your reading needs, an information centre, a cinema, a chemist and shops full of knick knacks.
You can walk to the foreshore and along the docks where you will see the trawlers coming in with their days catch, and along the way there are a couple of seafood restaurants with award winning food and a perfect atmosphere for quick dining or a longer dinner.
For longer, day trips, think of the Great Eastern Drive. Imagine driving to Hobart via the East Coast Road, taking in the gorgeous scenery from the road only metres away from the ocean. You can travel down through Bicheno, Orford, Swansea and Coles Bay, the gateway to the Freycinet Nation Park and the award winning Wine Glass Bay.
Or if you go north you can visit Binalong Bay a place of breathtaking beauty and crystal clear waters or further along, the Bay of Fires. The Bay of Fires has been named by Lonely Planet as the hottest travel destination in the world, and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Tasmania. Walk for miles along sugar-white sandy beaches, swim in the impossibly clear ocean, and feel like you’re the only person to have ever set foot here.
