Located in eastern Prince Edward Island, Harland’s Landing is a private and peaceful country retreat at the end of Halliday’s Road, where you can escape the pressure of everyday life and truly relax. Named for the Harland, a ferry that ran between Belfast and Charlottetown from the wharf at the end of the road, the home was built in the nineteenth century, reportedly for a daughter of Lord Selkirk, Mary Cochrane, who was a ward of Thomas Halliday, his agent on PEI. Sometime after 1880, the house was moved from the nearby shore to its present sheltered and treed location. Later, horses were stabled at the barn for travellers using the Harland until the service ended in the late 1930s. For a time, the bunkhouse (now updated and modernized, with electricity and bunkbeds) was used by a local artisan as his workshop for making fiddles for community musicians. The large country kitchen comes fully equipped with small and large appliances with a half bath and laundry area adjacent. The bright and sunny family and living rooms provide lots of space for relaxing or enjoying company and the dining room accommodates more formal dining for six people. Upstairs, the master bedroom includes a queen bed, and two full closets, as well as desk and reading corner. The second bedroom has two period twin beds, with the third bedroom featuring a single twin. All three bedrooms are near the spacious bathroom. Off the kitchen, there is a large deck with wide scenic views of farm and country fields. The back lawn has lots of space for croquet, frisbee, soccer or tossing a ball around. Enjoy the fire pit outside at night and the star-filled skies. A short walk will take you down to the beach where Halliday’s Wharf once stood but now eagles, osprey and blue heron can now be found.

The SpaceEveryone who walks through the doors into my main living area gasps and most say, "Wow!" Many ask if they can take pictures. Four large gothic church windows (not stained glass) flank two sides. The kitchen is modern and huge, comfortable to cook and eat in. Many folks actually ask if I really sleep in my bed. No, it's not a set piece, it's a comfortable bed and truly romantic. You'll love it!!! I am an artist and all of the art is my own. A lot of people who attend concerts in my home ask if it's for sale. Yes, if you fall in love with a piece I will sell it, a list of prices will be in your welcome package. Wifi is available but I don't have cablevision. Take advantage of the quiet, rural evenings to sit back and relax with a good book. Guest AccessThe main floor is yours to enjoy; there is a full bath with two sinks, the great room features a huge kitchen and several seating areas. There is a sleeping area, "stage" and office desk for you use as well as a dressing room in the back. (If you are bringing a third person they can sleep on one of the couches or on the chaise lounge). There are plenty of towels. I respect my environment therefor I will not be giving out little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and bars of soap. All will be available in the bathroom, use what you need and leave the rest. Please be sure to separate your compost, waste and any materials for recycle. Interaction with GuestsIf I am not around to give you the help you need someone will fill in for me. Their contact information will be in the guest book. The NeighborhoodYou'll love the East side of PEI; it's tranquil and really beautiful, the drive along the Trans Canada features spectacular views. The beaches are wonderful. There is hardly any traffic. The weather in September and October is perfect. The ocean water is delightfully warm at the nearby beach; great for swimming. Northumberland Park is a fabulous white sand beach; it's about five minutes past the turnoff to the Wood Islands ferry. You can also just turn down Panting Shore road and access the beach from the end of it. If you are lucky, you'll see seals resting on the rocks off the point to the left. The Rossignol Winery in Little Sands is great to see. The Lady's Slipper Cafe at Wood Islands is open 10 am - 6 pm (all day breakfast!) and the Chowder House at Point Prim features delicious food and a spectacular view - tour the only round lighthouse in Canada. Make sure you have mosquito repellant. Getting AroundUnless you are an inveterate biker, you will not be able to get here if you don't have a car. Other Things to NoteAfter you enter the front hall you will turn right. Open the french doors by simply pushing the handle; it does not turn. The wood stove in the seating area opposite the dining room table is only for decoration - it has no chimney. DO NOT LIGHT A FIRE IN IT!!!! The remote for the heat pump will be on the counter in the kitchen. I have a cat but we will not be on the main floor if we are in the building.
