The SpaceWe offer you a lovely bedroom with a queen-sized bed, an assortment of pillows and linens (including summer and winter duvets), and a fitted electric blanket. The room has a built-in wardrobe with shelving, a set of drawers, a bedside stand, and a study desk & chair. A large window lets in lots of sun (weather permitting) and this bedroom is across the hall from the heat pump, and nearest to the bathroom and toilet. In addition to a heat pump, our home is insulated and equipped with a HRV system, and wood burner (lovely entertainment in the wintertime). Guest AccessBathroom, lounge, and garden are shared. The bathroom has a shower-over-bath and sink. The toilet is separate (nice when you need to go and someone is in the shower). Towels, face clothes, and mini-toiletries are provided. Long stay guests, please inquire about use of kitchen and laundry facilities. Our garden is pleasant, with lots of flowering shrubs and native plantings. There is a small courtyard off the kitchen (nice for breakfast), and a hammock and swing in the backyard. Guests have access to our lounge, with a view of Signal Hill and the harbour. We have a big screen TV and a wide assortment of DVDs. Dunedin is the first NZ Gigatown, and we enjoy high-speed internet. Please note that guest internet usage does not include downloading movies, music, pornography, or any other illegal materials. Interaction with GuestsOurs is a quiet and comfortable, character home with a pleasant garden. We are a friendly, professional couple who enjoy meeting international travellers. We accept that some guests want solitude, and we will respect your privacy.... however, you are welcome use the lounge, and to sit down and have a chat, or watch TV or a DVD with us. Our library includes NZ literature and non-fiction, as well as NZ natural resources, photography, science and the environment, hiking, mountain climbing, sports, and cultural reads. Our household includes one quirky cat who is usually on the prowl in the garden, or else curled up in a secluded spot, asleep. He has his own entry/exit and is pretty much self-sufficient. Our cat is toilet trained and so there are no litter boxes (or smell) in our home. Also, our cat is somewhat aloof to non-family members, so you have no fear of him invading your lap. We are a mature, professional couple who both have strong ties to the University, and are knowledgeable about the campus, buildings, and many of its people. If you want to explore, we can suggest things to see and places to visit. We have a limited assortment of brochures describing local attractions and activities. Additionally, the Dunedin Info Centre (10 minute walk downhill, and just off the Octagon) has a huge range of brochures describing area attractions. Here you can arrange tours, transport, and enroll in adventure activities. The NeighborhoodRoslyn Village is home to a variety of shops; chemist, florist, home décor, beauty/spa, supermarket, Health Centre, and a nice range of eateries. We are just a short walk to the beautiful Moana Pool and Gym, the Beverley-Begg Observatory, both Columba and Kavanagh Colleges, Otago Boys’ High, Marinoto Clinic and Mercy Hospital, and the Yvette Williams and Summerset retirement villages. Our neighbourhood is situated near the greenbelt, and there are several parks and child-friendly playgrounds nearby. Most of the area residents are professionals, some with families. Parking is limited on our street, but there is usually parks available on City Road (just above us) and our property can be easily accessed from a walkway off City Road (shown in photos). If you are arriving by car, please contact us ahead of time so we can help sort out a park for you. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop nearby (1/2 block, about 3 minutes walk), and buses run every half hour Monday-Friday until late; less frequently on weekends and public holidays. Taxis to and from the City Centre range from $8-15 at the time of this listing. You may expect to pay $30, perhaps more, if you use a cab to get to/from a sports event or concert at the Stadium. As stated above, there is limited parking on our street, which is why public transport and walking are a nice option. Our location provides an easy downhill walk to University or Dunedin City Centre. Email if you have any questions, please. Other Things to NoteRoslyn Village is just a short stroll away, with an assortment of cafes, takeaways, restaurants, services and shops, and a supermarket. We can provide you with a continental breakfast, for an additional fee. Just about a block away, you can get a great cuppa and a morning or midday bite at Cafe Culture, or sit down for a great hot cooked breakfast paired with a strong brew at Rhubarb; both in Roslyn Village. There are several restaurants and takeaway shops within walking distance of the house for midday or evening meals.... or you can explore more dining options in the City Centre, just a short, downhill walk away. The city bus service operates every half hour (weekdays), with an abbreviated schedule on weekends and holidays. We have a detailed bus schedule in house, and additional help can be found on the DCC website. Please note that taxis are expensive, especially to and from the Stadium for concerts and other events. If you are flying into Dunedin, the airport is about 30km away from our location. Rental cars are available at the airport (book in advance). Please note that we do not have off-street parking. If you will be arriving in a rental car, contact us in advance and we can advise you of the closest available parking place at that time. Depending upon our schedule, we may be able to pick you up/drop you off at the Dunedin International Airport for a small fee. Taxi fares to/from the airport range from $75-95. Alternately, we can help you to arrange transport via shared shuttle service, which costs between $40-50, or if you want to book your own, we recommend the family-run, local service, Kiwishuttles. Please note that rates/availability may change due to the occurrence of local events and holidays. If the dates you require are not available on the calendar, please email an inquiry.
