The SpaceThis hand built mud-brick and stone studio cabin is an inspirational space, flooded with natural light, enhanced by the the warmth of the earth bricks and the beauty of the local stone. Designed thoughtfully and with sensitivity by an award winning environmentally conscious designer. The space takes full advantage of the setting and makes the most of the local climate. The studio is set up with a couple in mind and is not suitable for children due to the ladder to the loft bedroom which has a really comfortable queen size bed, always with 100% cotton sheets and views of the tree tops, the alternative and the summer choice to using the ladder and loft is the comfy day bed on the ground floor also a full size queen bed. This quirky, open planned space is furnished for beauty and comfort with all the comforts of a home. Enjoy the visuals of art by local artists and laze in the lounge or in the comfort of the the queen sized and cushion filled day bed, all bathed in the mid winter sun. The huge north facing windows bring the out side in and encourage you to gaze out at the green of natural world or study the star filled night skies in this special valley. The loft with ladder is not suitable for children, less able adults and elderly people, so we restrict our bookings to adults only and ask guests to consider carefully their own needs and request the appropriate bedding choice when booking the studio space. So if you feel you can't manage the ladder access (see photos) let us know and we will make up the queen size day bed on the main/ground floor level, the ground floor bed is the better choice for the summer months in Bellingen. The large bathroom also with northern aspect has plenty of space, a spa bath for relaxing in and plenty of solar hot water. Sit and chill on the cool southern verandah, or relax and cook outside by the brassier on the northern veranda and truly be on holidays. Get creative and utilize the large outside space that can be set up for work in ceramics or with an easel if you prefer to paint. The main house on the property, further down the driveway is far enough away for your privacy and close enough if you are in need of anything or would just like a chat. Mobile coverage is limited in many areas in the Bellingen shire including our place but there is internet available in the studio and the house land-line number can be used for any urgent contact needed (we will give you the number before you arrive). We do not cater for pets, as there is no fencing on the property and we value our abundant bird life on the property, you can ask if its really important, we may be happy to negotiate small animals if they will not be left unattended. For more people and more space, we suggest you check out our 3 bedroom mud brick home as an option, listed separately as 'Kalang Mud'. Guest AccessThere is a flat screen television and DVD player with a selection of DVD's and movies, an iphone 4 dock for your own music and a CD player with a selection of music for your entertainment. There is a small library and a selection of games. The kitchen is fully equipped for those that enjoy cooking, a gas cooking stove, an outside BBQ, a full size fridge and the pantry is lightly stocked for your convenience. There is plenty of solar hot water with a gas booster so it won't run out on you and gas heating for chilly evenings. Sheets (100%cotton), towels, soap and shampoo are all supplied and there is a washing machine for your use. Interaction with GuestsWe aim to be warm and friendly hosts, we can direct you to the local highlights of the area, let you know about local events and make sure you have all the comforts for a great stay. We are always happy to have a chat and can also offer breakfast at the main house by prior arrangement, or maybe just a cuppa, we encourage you to pop over to the main house to say hello and goodbye. The NeighborhoodThe Bellingen area is a great place to visit, just 30 minutes to beautiful secluded beaches and coastal National Parks on one side and 30 minutes to the wonders of the World Heritage rainforests of Dorrigo National Park on the other. Bellingen itself is the place for cafes, restaurants, live music, organic local food and craft markets, special natural places and beautiful swimming holes. Right next door there are yoga classes available and the services of a qualified Acupuncturist and Naturopath for your health needs. Getting AroundWe are just 6-10 minutes drive to the Bellingen township, there is no public transport in or around Bellingen but there is a taxi service or we may be able to arrange pick up if you wish to have a few drinks over dinner in town. Other Things to NoteThere is some essentials in the pantry, like teas, coffee (real stuff not instant), sugar ,honey, vegemite, spices, oil, vinegar, soy sauce etc. We also supply milk and some home made goodies (usually gluten free) for breakfast on your first day, just encase you arrive late and didn't have time to shop. The supermarket in town is pretty good and is open till about 7.30pm. There is a huge variety of birds to watch and hear, just from your verandah, so enjoy the sounds of nature especially in the morning. Conveniently located on the property just next door there is an excellent and experienced Acupuncturist / Naturopath and weekly yoga classes for your health and well being needs.

The SpaceCome and enjoy a stay in our beautiful home. Thirty years ago we were young and had a dream; to leave the city behind, design and build a mud home in the bush and have a few kids. So we moved to the Bellingen valley and did just that. Now the kids all live in the city and the trees we planted are full of fruit, the bedrooms are empty and we would like others to enjoy the place as we do. Our unique property is just 6 km from the Bellingen township, with its vibrant country cosmopolitan atmosphere, full of music, art and small town friendly quirkiness, backed up with fabulous food, coffee and our very special open air markets, music festivals and camp creative. Our home is a constant changing art work, always full of our festival and party sculptures, crazy dress up costumes hide in corners and cupboards, pottery, paintings and handmade stuff everywhere. There is even a 5 metre dragon living in the ceiling. We hand built every brick, scrounged every window and door from the wreckers yards and put it altogether with attitude. The property sits on 4 acres on the Kalang River, the gardens are lush and green with sculptures and seasonal surprises everywhere. The bird life is awesome, Black Cockatoos live here all year, King parrots visit whenever there is fruit on the trees, Regent Bower birds, Kingfishers and our own resident pair of Buff-banded rails, just to name a few. So if you’re looking for that unusual holiday stay, give us a try, our house offers many surprises. You can camp out down by the river, get up early to quietly look for our neighbourhood platypus. Sleep in late and listen to the birds and the quiet of the morning. You will always find a comfy place to sit, we have an abundance of couches and chairs in the sun, shade, or around our Scandinavian combustion fireplace. We offer our home just as we use it, with its relaxed comfort and wish you to feel at home during your stay. If you're looking for a freedom furniture trendy retreat with manicured lawns, sparkling windows and rolled up towels this is not for you. The planet is too fragile to keep up with the latest trends in home wares, just use and enjoy our second hand and recycled stuff. This home is available as a whole house suitable for 2 couples or a family of five/six. For a single couple there is a separate cottage on the property listed separately as ‘Mud brick & Stone Hideaway’.
