Rooms Our rooms are named for the mood or state of mind that their accent color evokes for us and hopefully you will, in contemplating its significance to us, share in it as well. The room names are in Spanish to reflect our Hispanic roots. We have three rooms: Serenidad: Accent color – Blue Serenity, at peace – a state of mind that in our view is conducive to introspection and re-evaluation and is reflective of self assurance and of the power to determine our destiny. We hope that you will find your stay here with us, invigorating and uplifting. Esperanza: Accent color – Green Hope – a state of mind which to us reflects a positive expectation for success, satisfaction and fulfillment. For us hope is inextricably linked to life. It is our wish for you that your visit to Belize be very satisfying and that your life be filled with success. Felicidad: Accent color – Orange Happiness – In our view this is a state of mind that we deliberately choose and reaffirm at the break of each new dawn in recognition of this enduring and wonderful gift of life. This is the most elusive discipline of all. We do hope that the hospitality, the ambience and the friendship you encounter at Villa San Juan will contribute to the happiness you experience on your visit to Belize. Its population of 303,000 celebrates mixed ethnicity ranging from the native Creole, Maya, Mestizo and Garifuna to the ethnic profiles of migrants from other parts of the world. The economy of Belize is undergoing a process of diversification but currently still maintains a significant reliance on agricultural activities. Belizeans live in a Parliamentary Democracy, and are able to exercise the right to universal suffrage every five years in general elections, to choose members of the House of Representatives. Why Come to Belize: •Only English speaking country in Central America •3rd largest cave system in the world •40% of its land used as protected area •3 of the 4 coral atolls in the Caribbean •Over 4,000 species of flowering plants •Over 150 species of animals •Over 500 species of birds •An estimated 1400 ancient Mayan sites •Largest jaguar reserve in the world •2nd longest barrier reef in the world Locale Our Villa’s convenient location in the Cohune Walk residential subdivision of the city of Belmopan, places us within easy reach of the commercial center of the city where you can find the principal government offices, the major commercial banks, the local post office, the magistrate’s court, the bus terminal, an open air market and a number of restaurants and food stands. The best days for shopping at the colorful open air market are Tuesdays and Fridays when fresh fruit and vegetables arrive. Belmopan came into existence in the late 1960’s when subsequent to the devastation caused by hurricane Hattie to the then capital, Belize City, the government decided to build a new capital city further inland to eliminate the higher threats posed to low lying coastal locations during the annual hurricane season. Belmopan is nestled in the foothills of the Maya mountains at an elevation of some 250 ft above sea level. The city is crisscrossed by aquifers that feed into the Belize River and at the same time provide a cooling effect on night time temperatures. In summer daytime temperatures often top 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the temperature fall at night can be as much as 30 degrees. The Philip Goldson International Airport, the principal port of entry for visitors to Belize, is about an hour’s drive from Belmopan. We do recommend hiring a rental car, preferably an SUV, for travelling to Belmopan and within its surrounding areas. There are numerous points of interest that are easily accessible from here. The following are a few. Points of Interest Guanacaste National Park - At the very entrance of the city of Belmopan – Enjoy swimming in the “hot & cold” waters at the confluence of the cool mountain stream, the Roaring Creek, and the warm Belize river all in a forest setting at the junction of the Hummingbird Highway and the Western Highway. Xunantunich - a major mayan site that provides a panoramic view of the Cayo district. This particular site is located across the River from the village of San Jose Succots, which is close to the Guatemalan Border. The majestic Ruin “El Castillo” at Xunantunich rises over 130 feet at the south end of the main complex. It bears a remarkable stucco frieze on its east side and dates back to the 700 A.D. Along the way one gets to enjoy a scenic display of our country and the Maya Civilization while passing through the many villages along the Western Highway. This journey takes us to the twin towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio, then on to the village of San Jose Succots to cross a river via a hand cranked ferry. The Belize Zoo - A half hour drive down the Western Highway to the zoo. The zoo has many exhibits of our local animals and birds, which are all accommodated in their natural habitats and they are all native to Belize. You can find our national symbols which are: the tapir, the keel billed toucan, the Mahogany Tree and the black orchid flower. Cave Tubing - Enjoy the thrill of floating on an inner tube with a headlamp through our local cave systems whilst viewing the amazing crystalline rock formations. The caves exhibit stalactites and stalagmites, column formations, crystal formations, bats, small waterfall, small rapids and the first entrance to the underworld of the Maya. And if you still have time and energy, try a “Zip Line” aerial adventure, high above the tropical rainforest. Interesting Facts: Population Cayo District: 70157 Belmopan: 13381 Electricity Supply: 120/240 Volt 60hz Currency: Belize Dollar (Exch. Cocao Rainforest Lodge is a Large Off Grid two story rustic lodge located in the pristine lush Rain Forest of Belize. The rap around veranda upstairs is the perfect place to watch the wildlife, relax, and enjoy a fresh fruit drink from the kitchen. We are an OFF GRID Eco lodge (see below for what does off grid mean) surrounded by lush jungle. Around the home we have spent years taking pride in collecting hundreds of botanical plants making a great garden for us to share with our guests. Being in the jungle allows us a great opportunity to be visited by toucans, parrots, eagles, hawks, armadillos, Coatimundi, and monkeys. The property is 17 acres with private caves, hiking trails, and there is never enough hours in the day to explore the property.... ever! Some great things: >Separate meals available for a fee >Peaceful with amazing wildlife >A wonderful jungle experience >Private and shared rooms available >Nice rap around and hammocks for relaxing >Mature fruit tree's around the property >Our property used to be part of the Hershey Farms >We are 1200 feet from Cave Branch River >On site hiking, bird watching, and wildlife Tours Available: >Mayan Site Excursions >Cave Tubing >Crystal Cave >Horseback Tours >Scuba/snorkeling excursions >Some private tours are available at request And much more!!! Local Wine $25 per bottle...Sorrel, Black Berry, Ginger, and Soursop *All served chilled. Beer Rum What does it mean to be off grid? So many have wondered what it means to be off grid in a place like Belize. First thing it means is conservation. Being a jungle lodge we try to conserve water because we catch our water from the rain. We have a built in cistern which allows for the downstairs to be a bit cooler during the hottest part of the day. We conserve energy at night. We have batteries that provide the storage for the electricity. We have LED lighting. The internet goes off at a certain time in the evening. Everything is planned out to help us squeeze every last drop of power out of the system we can without harming it. It adds to the jungle experience. Why? It becomes so quiet at night the jungle takes over your senses. But you are safe in a solid concrete mammoth of a home. We love our PLACE! The home was designed to handle about anything Mother Nature could throw at her. The Caribbean can offer some amazing weather during certain times of the year and this structure is made to handle it all. It has seen hurricanes, earthquakes, and has had several 120 foot tall tree's falling over onto it without even a hint of an issue. It is built to California earthquake codes. It is probably way over built for Belize, but we like it that way. We want you to feel safe in secure while you stay with us. This way you can truly relax! We are not a perfect place and are rustic although constantly working to maintain and improve . The price is comensurate of the area. We do not have a TV or X box......although we do have internet it is third world quality and does not always work well. The main three reasons people chose our place is location, price and private rooms. You may also want to look at caves branch resort and sleeping giant rainforest lodge if your looking for something more upscale . We know people save and work hard for their vacations and we want you to be pleased with your choice. Although this room has a shared bath it is only shared with one other room and donut you will run into anyone in there. We also have a nice outdoor shower and toilet which are my favorites. Guests have access to the Kitchen and the grounds of Cocao Rainforest Lodge. We ask the guests to respect the community space so others can use it as well. So if you make a mess in the kitchen please clean it so others can use it behind you. Internet is Hughes Satellite and we have US IP which gives us a great advantage over the rest of the country. The Country of Belize was just Hacked a few months back and the country had no internet access for a while. You have access to many things other places do not from our internet source. My Wife qand I love talking with guests. We love people and enjoy getting to know people from around the world. I am from the South (USA) and she is Belizean. We opened this place because of our Love of the rainforest and off grid living. What sets us apart from the others is location. We are only ten miles out of Belmopan, the garden city. You will find the Hummingbird Highway a completely different experience than the rest of the country. It is known as one of the countries Jewels. Most will agree (probably everyone) that this area is the most beautiful part of the country. We are also about a mile from the Blue Hole National Park, St. Herman's Cave and Crystal Caverns. We can arrange guided trips to any of the local sites seeing attractions, horseback excursions, island trips, and scuba excursions through our partners. With each room you get: >screened room >towels >clean sheets >fan >hot showers >continental style breakfast Additional Services Available Onsite (with additional costs) >Lunch and Dinner (Belize style cuisine) >Snacks >Laundry >Bottle Water (individual sized and 5 gallon) Laundry Service (per load) Machine washed and air dried $10 US Machine washed and dried $18 US Hand Washed in the Caves Branch River by the Local Maya $20US The public transportation is pretty good here. It can be caught very nearby the lodge. For only a few dollars you can ride from one end of the country to the other. The bus system is primitive... but if you want bragging rights you can say you did it. Shuttle and taxi services are available as well. Cell phones are intermittent, but down by the highway you can get good signal to call for a ride out. You can also make arrangements with us for a fee. The SpaceWe are an OFF GRID Eco lodge (see below for what does off grid mean) surrounded by lush jungle. WE HAVE BEER AND WINE! Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the property unless sealed or purchased here...... Local Wine $25 per bottle...Sorrel, Black Berry, Ginger, and Soursop *All served (website hidden) Kubuli $4 Belkin $6. Rum $6 a shot What does it mean to be off grid? Guest AccessGuests have access to the grounds of Cocao Rainforest Lodge and common areas. Interaction with GuestsMy Girlfriend and I love talking with guests. We love people and enjoy getting to know people from around the world. I am from the South (USA) and she is Belizean. We opened this place because of our Love for talking and entertaining others. The NeighborhoodMy neighbors are the Ian Anderson's Caves Branch (website hidden), Blue Hole National Park, St. Herman's Cave, and Crystal Caverns, all within a mile of the Lodge. We are three miles from the village of Armenia that has residents from all over Central America including indigenous people of Mayan decent. Getting AroundThe public transportation is pretty good here. You can also make arrangements with us Other Things to NoteWhat sets us apart from the others is location. With each room you get: >screened room >towels >clean sheets >fan >hot showers >continental style breakfast Additional Services Available Onsite (with additional costs) *There will be a 10% gratuity added to each bill for your convenience on meal services. Breakfast $10 Lunch $15 Dinner $20 Laundry Service (per load) Machine washed and air dried $10 US Machine washed and dried $18 US Hand Washed in the Caves Branch River by the Local Maya $20US >Beer, Wine, Shots of Rum >Snacks >Bottle Water (individual sized and 5 gallon)

The SpaceWith an intentional open architecture, rough wood, thatch roofs, solar power and elevated walkways, Jaguar Creek was designed to live in harmony with the rainforest as much as possible. We sit on 700 acres of pristine rainforest. We also own 1,200 acres of rainforest across the highway but we've put it in a conservation trust so that it will remain forever wild and free. Guest AccessGuests have full access to the property including the lodge area, sitting areas, jungle trails and the creek. The only off-limits areas are the kitchen, wood shop, maintenance areas and other guests' cabanas. We want you to stay safe and have privacy! Interaction with GuestsWe love providing you with the best experience possible. To do our best to achieve that, we have a devoted host at your service for the duration of your stay. We can also help you with booking tours, activities and travel, plus we love showing guests around portions of our 700 acres of rainforest and pointing out flora and fauna along the way. The NeighborhoodWe're nestled in one of the most beautiful - and most economically depressed - regions in the world. Jaguar Creek has been a life-giving partner with our local villages for many years and we're proud of the progress many of our neighbors have made. We believe we should be part of the solution to the poverty our friends and neighbors experience. And by staying with us you can be a part of that solution too. Getting AroundWe can pick you up at the airport (BZE or BCV) or water taxi and transport you to Jaguar Creek in our van. We are happy to also take you back to the airport or wherever your next adventure takes you. Getting around can be tricky as public transport and taxis can be tough to get but our van is available to transport you throughout Belize (as per availability). Other Things to NoteWhile all our living areas and common areas are screened in, mosquitoes can be a nuisance at different times of the year so plan accordingly. Also, because we live in such close proximity to the rainforest, you'll want to take care in staying aware of bugs, snakes and other rainforest neighbors. The Howler Monkeys sound tough when they, well, howl but they are quite harmless and a fun addition to the Jaguar Creek property.

Congratulations—you’ve found the exact geographic spot in the world where all stress completely fizzles out. It simply can’t survive here! Accessed only by boat, our three-story Belize townhome is surrounded by water on all sides. Here, the clear, Caribbean Sea meets a blue-green lagoon, where dolphins and manatees make frequent appearances and a pontoon boat waits to take you into Placencia Village. WHY OUR PLACENCIA TOWNHOME? Perched on top of this three-story Belize townhome, under the cover of a palapa—an authentic thatched hut—you can watch the sun rise over the water. And set over the water, too. Our unique island geography makes it possible to see both! Here at our townhome, we have another big plus, too: our wonderful, welcoming caretaker, Edwin. Many of our neighbors here in Placencia are jealous that we get to have Edwin all to ourselves—you truly won’t meet a kinder man in all of Belize. With his caretaker’s cottage adjacent to the townhome complex, Edwin is available in case of emergencies or when you need advice on adventures or places to eat. He speaks perfect English and is happy to help. At the ultra-safe townhome complex, there are just four neighboring units. We aren’t a sprawling, packed resort. This means our big, sparkling, private swimming pool is never, ever crowded. And we always keep it at a flawless 72 degrees. This matches Belize’s own perfect temperatures, which hover around 75-80 degrees year-round. Our complex also has outdoor pool showers for rinsing away the chlorine and a grilling hut surrounded by fragrant tropical plants. There’s no better way to spend an evening than flipping some burgers in the sea air at sunset. STEP INSIDE Inside the townhome, everything is cool, clean and modern. The rooms are large and flooded with natural light. In the kitchen, we’ve provided all the necessary cooking utensils, plus stainless steel appliances. There’s also a laundry room with a washer and dryer in the unit, so you can pack light and throw a load of laundry in at the end of the day at the beach. The modern bathrooms include marble sinks and huge walk-in showers. In addition to the rooftop palapa, with is shared with the neighboring townhome, you also have two separate verandas that are all yours—one accessed through the living room, and the other through one of the bedrooms. COME AND SEE US! We’d love to have you in beautiful Placencia, Belize. There’s nowhere in the world like it. Book your stay with us today by clicking the yellow “Book It” button on the right! Among our world-class offerings are unmatched sport fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling along the barrier reef: the second largest in the world! You can also charter a boat on the Monkey River, where howler monkeys play and crocodiles slink around and sun themselves on rock. A little further afield, about an hour away, you will find the breathtaking Mayan ruins. Just a bit up the road from there, you can try your hand at ziplining, soaring above the forest floor and cascading waterfalls of Belize. Also, explore Or, you can just spend the day lounging around. There are many places to do just that—from the townhome’s pool to the sugary sand beach just a 5-minute walk away.
